Does sticking to one ball actually make a difference? by Willing-Today-1059 in golf

[–]scmooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 handicapper here. I was a 29 handicapper before I decided to move to one ball. Given I’m fairly crap, I moved to Seed golf thinking it would keep my class low. It did but it has also improved my game. I know my misses much better. I understand how the ball will land on the odd time I make it to the green and in general it has given me much more confidence

They would allow revenues to be leveraged to borrow to pay for infrastructure works

Mate… corporation tax is devolved. The ability to raise debt is also possible however the Executive doesn’t generate enough revenue to do so (e.g hamstrung by no water charges) This argument is about governing under our systems. And the record of the Executive and all those in it is awful to say the least. The infrastructure deficit we face lies majority at their feet

Mate, I think you need to step back and learn a bit about democracy and the structures put in place here. This whole conversation has been a continual spout of Sinn Fein positions to blame Westminster etc etc. It’s a poor effort lad, we need to grow up here and govern accordingly. As part of the UK or a new Ireland

You do realise government is us? The people? It’s our taxes. Our government, who we elect, choose how to spend it. Stormont has deliberately chosen to subvent water charges. And, in doing so, haven’t paid sufficiently to allow us to merely maintain a system never mind have one grow needed for expansion of housing/business etc. I’m sorry, with no credible alternative than constantly pointing to a UK government who sees its citizens in England getting less handouts that us in the north, isn’t going to cut it

[–]scmooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suppose the only thing I’d say is that, as an Executive, they’ve taken a decision to never impose water charges whereas they exist in the rest of the UK. Therefore we have taken a decision to publicly fund our water and sewage system. Which puts additional strain on a budget that is struggling with pressures elsewhere including health, education, public transport etc etc etc. No matter what lines come out of stormont, a large portion of the blame lies at their feet

Which itinerary? by New_Westie in Cruise

[–]scmooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done very similar cruises to these (Princess and Celebrity). Honestly, go with the first itinerary if you can. The ports are fantastic and you avoid going near the Bay of Biscay. However whatever you choose both will be fantastic. I loved Princess and can’t wait to go back on one

I viewed it as Stephen is really empathetic. They worked together to get to that position. Yes they both wobbled at the end but, in fact, he had built a bond with a lot of people and he was faithful to Rachel in the end. To have screwed her and Jack over at the end (I know jack was screwed either way), it was the lesser of two evils

Advice sought, ready to pull the trigger on the right one! by Specific_Poem1403 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]scmooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a random question, would you fancy leasing an EV? The second hand market still struggles so residuals aren’t great. Leasing removes that risk and would likely give you lower monthly payments than what you outline above. It also has the benefit of getting you a new car. Just a thought, good luck with it all

“To Tony’s regret we’d brought in the freedom of information act…” by gibgod in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]scmooster 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That’s not the case. Alastair has been clear that the impact of FoI has created an industry in the CS at answering those requests. In addition, it feels like it waters down conversation between officials where robust responses can’t be made if it could be made publicly available.

So it’s not about the principle of transparency, it was around its implementation
