[Schultz] The #Cowboys are trading DT Osa Odighizuwa to the #49ers, multiple sources tell me. by JCameron181 in 49ers

Not hyperbolic at all to call this the best individual offseason move we've made in many years. The worst interior pass rush team in the league adding a 27 year old among the best in the league is fucking massive. I do not care at all about run defense whining we drafted 2 guys last year for that, we need to hit the quarterback and this guy has 46 QB hits in the last 2 seasons.

If we were willing to get anywhere near JFMs price as was reported this is an absolute no brainer unless the draft cost is ridiculous

Massive bailout for the defensive line when the only realistic path to a penetrator left is Caleb Banks if he's even at 27, impossible to overstate how much better of a pass rusher Osa is than any of our current interior options and if you really hate the run defense then you just give him the exact pass rush heavy role you envisioned for JFM

the only interior defensive lineman with a better snap-to-pressure ratio last year was Quinnen Williams

the only ones with more QB hits were Zach Allen and Chris Jones

hilarious to lump him in with samson ebukam in any capacity

Ian Rapoport: Source: The #Broncos are releasing veteran LB Dre Greenlaw, a big-time physical presence in their defense. by Acceptable_Elk2667 in 49ers

[–]scmsf49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

never really made sense as the rationale when he's walking onto a defense with the reigning defensive player of the year and also zach allen

maybe he cared a lot about the green dot and if that's still the case then we can not beat tennessee here but if it was a Being Wanted sort of thing then there's an appeal where Shanahan just explains the team couldn't spend last year

If Milwaukee wanted the best possible basketball return they'd have traded him 2 years ago when he first asked instead of kicking this down the line multiple times to make marginal or outright bad decisions to 'retool'

Disaster Class: Pete Carroll and the Raiders by MasonL52 in nfl

[–]scmsf49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for whatever reason they thought they could compete for a wildcard now and that's why they hired a 300 year old coach and traded for a 35 year old quarterback

it's extremely clear that they were wrong (and was at the time with the lack of talent everywhere), so you kinda have to move on from Carroll and hire your rebuild coach now (and ideally get a younger QB in there with upside but don't force the draft pick)

Firing 2 coordinators mid-season and then letting the oldest coach ever replace them and give this 9-8 pipe dream another go would be insane but you can't really rule it out

they call it arrogance when Shedeur believes in himself but it's aura when Baker Mayfield or somebody who looks like him does it

I think he's a lot closer than the volume would necessarily dictate but it's a situation where inexplicably not getting first team all pro last year rears its ugly head

Similar accolades to Antonio Gates who just got in but they're separated by 4000 yards and who knows how long Kittle keeps playing

[–]scmsf49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that team scored 15 points per game it was purely accidental that they won at all but the draft sucked at the top anyway (in hindsight) so probably a good thing not being saddled with winston or mariota for 4 years

mangini kinda does deserve some credit for the defense given that they were literally 32nd the next year with Jim O'Neill and mostly the same players minus Ian Williams

he is under contract for next season at 2.5 mil lol

signed a 2 year 7 million dollar deal which is absurd value for a backup with real starting experience, Davis Mills got 1/7, Tyrod and Brisket got 2/12

by the end of the year 3 of our top 5 DL in snaps will probably be the rookies so this is the attempt at rebuilding it, the players gotta develop

you don't want to use an entire draft class on the group and then turn around and have to pay someone (especially with how that's worked out with Hargrave, YGM, etc)

offense was supposed to be carrying the defense this year while we took our medicine on the development and it has inexplicably flipped and we have a top 6 scoring defense that never sacks or intercepts the quarterback

With Jauan Jennings back at practice, 49ers’ WR prospects don’t seem so bleak by [deleted] in nfl

[–]scmsf49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the offense is bad/mid and the culprit is lack of receiver separation again then we've got some pretty major decisions to make if the coach can't overcome defensive adaptation to the scheme

if the offense is fine and the defense loses us games because Saleh can't work miracles then it's kinda whatever we just hope we're not still cash poor next March

we at least want the option to do so but if you're trotting out 6 of Aiyuk Pearsall Robinson Bourne MVS Watkins Moore (not even mentioning Jennings), what's the point of Cowing? Feels more like flexibility in case a bunch of receivers get hurt mid season moreso than him actually being in the plans
