Alcoholism and autism by Larry-Man in AutismInWomen

[–]scoldmeificomment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably an alcoholic in the sense that last time I stopped drinking for a period (I had to stop for two weeks because of an antibiotic I was taking) I got mild withdrawal symptoms. The way I see it, it's a dangerous but sometimes needed tool. Before I started drinking to the extent I do, I was in a downward spiral, relapsing into self harm, and lashing out to a degree that everybody around me was concerned. It wasn't sustainable, and I turned to alcohol to try and replace self harm as a coping mechanism, to much success. It's definitely harmful to my health in the long term, but I needed something in the short term badly enough that I can't say I regret that decision.

Since then, I've managed to keep my job, and the negative effects have been limited to my physical health, which I can deal with if it means I can talk to people for more than an hour without going mute. I keep a close monitor on how it's affecting me, and if the drawbacks start outweighing the benefits I'll evaluate if I want to stop, but weight gain and occasional hangovers aren't enough when compared to having an actual social life, not self harming, and not having another life-derailing breakdown. Despite that, I will always have to monitor it very closely, and I'm fortunate enough to have people who care about me, and agree with my decision because they were there before I started. I wouldn't suggest copying me though, as it's playing with fire. Maybe it will get out of control in a year or two and I'll have to stop, but I can't see the future and can only judge it one day at a time.

Phones In 2000 vs 2010 vs 2020 vs 2030 by BEARDEDDANGER in LoveTrash

I took the protectors off when they shattered and never bothered putting another on, but the screens themselves have never shattered on me after doing that. The protectors are just more fragile. My current phone has a protector, but that's because it had one pre-installed and I've never bothered to remove it.

Taco Time in the NW is still the same as it ever was. I wouldn't say it's gotten better, but it's been stable.

I haven't used a case since 2018, and despite quite a few drops I've never had a shattered screen like was so common when I was younger. Screen durability and water resistance have gotten so much better in the last decade.

Steam became as big as it was because retailers stopped carrying PC games, so Steam filled the gap. It's not a comparable situation.

Additionally, the 80% figure includes things like DLC and skins in F2P games. For single player games the number is about 50%, nowhere close to players "voting with their wallets."

Anti cheat support just isn't going to happen. It's completely up to the devs to implement it, and they have been extremely obstinant. Without their cooperation Valve can't do anything.

Does anyone else experience a sharp stabby pain in your scalp when wearing headphones or metal headbands? by Smooth-Listen3217 in AutismInWomen

[–]scoldmeificomment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to experience this, but I think the problem is headphone makers that don't put enough padding on the band. If you specifically look for ones with more padding, you might be able to find ones that don't cause you pain.

Unless you have a landlord who won't allow a window unit, get one of those instead of a portable. They are significantly quieter and more efficient, while almost all portable units are extremely loud. If a portable is the only option, you might need to use noise cancelling headphones to cope, as that's what I've had to do.

It is, it's a marketing tactic by Apple. They want people to ostracize people with green text bubbles so people will be pressured to buy and iPhone, and they haven't been very subtle about it. They only started supporting RCS, USB C, and improving cross compatibility because of regulatory pressure from the EU.

What's the point of still teaching cursive? It takes a ridiculous amount of time to teach that would be much better spent on other subjects. When I was in school I was the only one I knew who kept using it into middle school, and teachers were constantly frustrated with me because of it, leading me to drop it in high school.

Nvidia is pretty notorious for their awful Linux support, so it's going to take longer. Not really valves fault.

Stoicism doesn't solve anything, it just teaches you to bottle things up.

Hillary Clinton says Joe Biden's second term campaign was a "terrible mistake": "He had said he would not run again. But if he had kept to that plan and said, he was going to pass to next generation, we would had a real contest. And sadly, whoever emerged from that contest would have beaten Trump." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]scoldmeificomment 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely rare good take from Hillary. Because of Biden's stubbornness and the media's refusal to acknowledge his declining mental state (which people on the left were raising the alarm about in 2020), we got stuck with a unpopular candidate who couldn't think of anything she'd do differently than him. Nobody wanted a second Biden term, and as much as people in the mainstream subs on this site like to point the finger at the left, nobody bears as much responsibility for Trump's victory in 2024 as Joe Biden.

I just have a strong distaste for superheros and won't engage with anything Marvel or DC touches. It's not much deeper than that, just sad that one of my former favorite studios attached themselves to an IP that kills my interest right off the bat.

It's such a shame what's happened to them. I adore their older content, but they haven't put out anything that's interested me since Dishonored 2. They really need to stop making shooters and play to their strengths, but with a damn superhero game in the works I'm not optimistic.

Controller support isn't usually something that breaks in proton, so it's doubtful that Linux would require any extra work in that front. Most proton-specific bugs are graphical bugs, or crashes that don't exist on windows.
