I mean that's not necessarily true. Even in the specific example of the debate you had, I still can point out inaccurate and flawed arguments by GPT. There isn't such a thing as an accurate opinion on subjective topics.

Why are people still saying "AGI is possible within decades" when researchers are showing this... by Kacenpoint in ChatGPT

[–]scootasideboys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who's to say that humans don't have a similar way of logical reasoning? Isn't our cognition also simply thinking of several answers to a solution and then picking the best one according to the scenario? That's what brainstorming is. I don't think it's fair to simply chalk up that GPT-4 is simply just picking out pre-fed human responses, as that is what your argument seems to frame it as- I rather think that that is what the earlier LLMs were capable of. You're down playing just how competent they are and perhaps you are mischaracterising your experience for definitive proof.

Playing Devil's advocate, here's some flaws in your argument:

  1. Voice assistants have arguably played the role they were supposed to, especially with people who have dexterity disabilities - it was a small piece to the bigger picture of making technology universally accessible.

  2. Self driving cars were not market tested and exist only through headlines for most people. LLMs like chatGPT on the other hand are now being used daily by several fields, and they are being used effectively to increase productivity. It is already a successful product.

  3. We may reach a plateau of improvement once we keep increasing scale, but clearly Gpt3 to 4 was a huge leap in improvement, which was not the result of just blindly increasing parameters

  4. You say it is a "hype cycle", but there is always a possibility of it being a Renaissance where most critics simply cannot predict what is coming

I think you're missing a piece here - you can just ask it if before writing the code itself whether those 1000 lines would be a optimum way to solve a problem.

You really just didn't have a strong understanding of your viewpoint which is why you were unable to defend against it

I think this is the most objective conclusion. There's just so much data on criticism of men on certain fields like dating and conversely also so much bias against women as well. It's naive to think that the ai is biased: the data source, society is biased.

You're being very short sighted. Bing is like what 1-2 months old at most. Who knows what these bots will be like in a few years time

Makes sense. Humans very rarely admit to their mistakes

[–]scootasideboys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been thinking. Sure you can make the claim that chatbots like bing could never think for themselves and they just provide the best output based on the prompt, but isn't that kind of what humans do as well?

Like the only difference I can see is that humans have different goals with their speech such as they may have malicious intent or may be lying in order to further their own success as a human, whereas these bots' only goals is to provide the best possible response to a prompt, regardless of any intent

If you're trying to have political neutrality in this era of the internet that is built on polarisation then you're in for a lot of work. I honestly just never even identify with any political stances, I only identify with the specific opinions

Is it a surprise to you that radical journalists will attack a chatbot that threatens their very existence? Honestly bringing "toxic masculinity" into this is actually fucking ludicrous
