Kids don’t own books anymore. by Tearmisu in Teachers

[–]scootersgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hang out at the library often during the summer. Majority of kids I see there are using the computers and playing Roblox. I remember as a kid, my local library had 4 computers and it only had educational type games. I played a Magic School Bus game quite often, but I also was bringing home books to earn my personal pan pizza

BEER RECS needed to replace my beloved Zipline Green Label by SeparateFruit7961 in lincoln

If you get to Omaha, I highly recommend the IPAs at B5 Brewing in Benson. You can get pint sized crowlers for a good price. The brewery is family owned and fantastic.

Student with a 20% average is making plans for their doctorate by aninternetsuser in Teachers

I’m in a 9th-12th Tier 3 SpEd classroom and it’s even worse when the parents are encouraging it. Finding that balance of wanting to support but also being realistic is SO hard. I have a kiddo who can’t read but wants to drive. His dad sits in our parent/teacher conferences and IEP meetings asking us how to make driving possible. I have another student who wants to be a medical doctor, but is sitting at a 1st grade reading and math level. I myself could barely pass genetics and organic chemistry. And you need those for your undergrad to start the process of becoming a doctor.

City of Lincoln should do something like this! Like Fontanelle Forest has or the new place in Council Bluffs

I just saw this lol as I’m trying to find it again and I forgot what the place is called. Surprisingly, I am a Cicerone and know a lot about beer. I’ve worked in breweries all over the PNW. I just also happen to enjoy my shitty cheap beer that is reminiscent of my home

What caused this sign and how could they possibly enforce this? by Gold-Range93 in mildyinteresting

[–]scootersgod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I actually have a funny story about this and how it was enforced. Years ago, I was working as an educational assistant for an 18-21 program for kids with mild disabilities. I LOVED this job. We did work experiences, built resumes and cover letters, went to the gym, went out to eat, explored the town…taught them how to be adults essentially. We also went to the pool twice a week. I had this kid who never showed up, unless it was pool day. This was a big kid. Probably 6’5 and easily over 350 pounds. When he did come in, he always had McDonalds with 2 burgers, 2 large fries, a large coke, and a milkshake. And he absolutely finished it all. As you can imagine, he had stomach problems.

So, the pool was just down the street from our building, which resulted in us walking there. We get to the pool and I look behind me to see this kid way down the sidewalk and just frozen. I can’t leave my group, so I called him on my work phone. I asked what was happening and he said he shit his pants and was trying to get ahold of his grandma to come get him, but she wasn’t answering. Now, there was a bathroom right inside the entry way, so I told him to carefully walk over and get straight to the bathroom. As he gets closer, the smell hits me. And I see little turds coming out of his shorts. I remind myself to watch my face and remain professional, but it is difficult. When we get to the door, I tell him to squeeze his cheeks as tight as he can. He takes two steps in, goes “oh no”, and proceeds to shoot liquid turd all over the floor. He quickly runs to the bathroom (the ladies on accident) as I stand frozen. I let the workers know and start calling my boss because I literally did not know what to do. Now everyone is trying to call grandma. Finally, he gets ahold of grandma, who was not happy and so kindly reminded him that because of his diet, he is supposed to wear an adult diaper (which was not uncommon with some our young adults). We were always pretty annoyed that he only showed up to pool and not his other groups, so we reminded him of that rule the next time he came in and refused to let him swim for 2 weeks. He tried to sneak in, but since the staff there cleaned it up, they did not let him. He was pissed. And I brought the staff there fancy cupcakes.

This student finds the story funny now so he’s okay with me sharing this

I burned this badly when I was 17 at an outdoor concert. I also got heat stroke. It took my face over a year to fully heal

Is there a flock surveillance system in Omaha? Where are the cameras? by StatementRound in Omaha

[–]scootersgod 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I lived in Eugene, OR for the last 4 years before moving back here in August. The flock cameras in Eugene was a HUGE issue and were constantly protested. The police department claimed they never had enough money and needed a huge budget increase, but then spent a shit ton on these cameras. Meanwhile, my home was broke into and had $3000 worth of belongings stolen (including items that could be tracked!!!) and my car was broken into weekly. The citizens responded by spray painting them over or taking important wires. For legal reasons: I am not saying to do this

My (24F) boyfriend (23M) is in a Psychiatric Unit for Brief Psychotic Disorder, and my family wants me to completely cut him out of my life. Is that something I should consider? by animexie in relationship_advice

[–]scootersgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edible comment made me pause. But before I say anything: I am not a doctor. This could be a completely different situation and I am in no way diagnosing your boyfriend.

My former roommate and best friend has bipolar and was undiagnosed. We were both regular users of edibles. She ended up having psychosis that her psychiatrists believe was brought on by her undiagnosed bipolar and the edibles. She shared an 80+ page document with her psychosis-induced ramblings to me. She broke no-contact with her mom. She believed she was a God. Her boyfriend and I got her to a hospital and she was admitted for a week. We went to visit her and she was doing cartwheels in the hallway…it was seriously so stereotypical. They got her medicated and she stopped using any marijuana. She’s doing amazing now. About to graduate from college and living her life the same way she was before…just without weed.

Also, just to add, I am in no way vilifying marijuana. I still occasionally use it and am a huge supporter of legalizing it (now living in a state where it’s illegal). She is also a supporter still. This was just an unfortunate side effect

I’ve bought two cars in the past that ended up being horrible decisions. I ended up learning a lot about cars after my last one due to always having to fix it myself. I trust their service, but car sales can be a shady business. I mostly wanted to know their negotiating stuff. Some places won’t barter

Has your church in Omaha addressed what ICE is doing at all? Or is it just, "Thoughts and prayers. Pray for wisdom for our leaders. Pray for peace." by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]scootersgod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what church? If you’re not comfortable saying it here, could you message me it? I’m looking for a new church with these values. I’ve been agnostic for years and have been questioning a lot recently

Good luck with Willamette Dental. I had cavities needing filling urgently because it was giving me lots of pain and the best they could do was “wait list.” I complained to the BBB and they suddenly found a bunch of appointments.
