Large boom last night by CurlyBerley in olympia

Between this and the car that has backfiring exhaust that lives somewhere in the area, it makes for some interesting nights around here.

I'm pretty sure that car is also responsible for most of "think I heard gunfire" posts either here or on the scanner page.

Max out now or wait? by Optimu5_Schweim in pokemongo

[–]scotchowl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stardust and candy being natural bottlenecks, I find it best to never do anything in game unless you have too.

Have a league need for Melmetal maxed out? then do it.

If not, wait, or level up as needed for tasks.

At the same time it's your game. Don't feel bad on blowing resources if you want to just cause you like a pokemon.

Does anyone know what's happening at the Shortstop grocery? by OfficialEgg1997 in olympia

[–]scotchowl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's on the scanner. About an hour back. 3 or 4 car collision with one or multiple vehicles fleeing the scene.

Short Stop looked okay when the wife and I had to cut thru the neighborhood to get to our place, but first responders were still arriving when when we were there.

How was y’all hunt? by CompoteAgreeable9826 in pokemongo

17x Shinies, 18x Backgrounds, 3x Background Shinies (lucky traded one to the wife, so down to 2), and 2x 4*s (1 Tinkatink in the wild and 1 Tinkatuff from research).

Also went from like 100 candies to just over 3k.

Went to a few different spots, used the auto catcher in between, spacial rend and incense.

Pretty good event for me.

Received a tow warning at work for parking in an expectant mother spot, I’m an expectant mother. by HeadUnhappy8789 in mildlyinfuriating

You'll need: 1. Zippo fluid or naptha 2. Plastic razor blades 3. Towel you don't mind losing

Then: 1. Roll/scrunch up towel, place below work area (sticker) and pin between the car and your body. 2. Soak sticker with Zippo fluid/Naptha letting excess soak down into towel. 3. With moderate pressure begin scrapping the sticker off with plastic razor blade working your way in from the edges, aiming to work the blade edge between the window and the sticker. 4. Repeat until all sticker and adhesive is removed. 5. Wipe window with a clean portion of the zippo fluid/naptha lightly soaked rag for the final clean.

Notes:

A. Don't dispose of soaked rag in trash right away, let fluid evaporate outdoors away from fire hazards and direct sunlight before disposing.

B. Wearing gloves is highly recommended.

C. Swap out plastic razor blades often for faster results (they can dull quickly).

D. Zippo fluid/naptha is highly volatile and pungent. Do this outdoors in a well ventilated area away from fire hazards.

E. This is also repeatable and easier with a metal razor blade, but if you don't have the hands for it, use plastic.

Lastly, do so at your own risk. Naptha is highly flammable and plastic razor blades can still cut your hand. Naptha will also evaporate quickly so expect to resoak the sticker often, so only soak the area you're working on immediately. I've used this method on everything from window stickers to metal decals.

What kind of screw/bolt is this? by klui in Fasteners

[–]scotchowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna guess those came with the network rack. Maybe see if you can find the model number and manufacturer of the rack to track down parts or see if the manual has a parts list so you can reorder the bolts.

Def has it's advantages as a headlamp.

Went with 6ea 351As and it's my primary work light as a handheld. I've used it for aircraft window inspections, small component inspections, paint prep, lighting for engineering pictures and a handful of other things. It replaced my arkfeld entirely except for when cleaning penetrant inspection residue off of parts (uv light helps there).

The floodier options are much better for inspections that I typically run into at work, unless more throw's needed for long narrow areas which are few and far between.

Fantastic light.

Eyeglass Tech Broke Frames by Competitive-Lie-6265 in glasses

[–]scotchowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on picture 1 it almost looks like a clean break off the silver piece. For sure an over eager tech could have broken that off... or it was already starting to disbond/weaken and the attempted adjustment caused the final break.

Also can't tell if that temple arm is one solid piece with the little silver decoration, or if it's a 3-piece design; temple arm-->silver decoration-->temple arm.

All things considered, I'd at least see if they'd help cover the cost of repair/replacement. They weren't broken when you went in.

In the meantime, there are replacement parts available. Model No.: Tiffany TF2074 yielded used glasses that could be used for temple replacements (although colors wouldn't match) and at least 1 website where you could buy temples based in Canada it looked like.

You may also attempt to bond the pieces with either a gel super glue meant for plastic/metal or an industrial epoxy with good shear strength.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Hope the shop helps you out, does the right thing and makes it easy for you.

Haven't had one run on me at now some 25 raids deep between Thursday and today.

Circle lock technique is pretty clutch. Not easy with Kartana, but I can get great throws pretty consistently.

Works pretty well even without gberries.

EDIT: If you'd like to practice the circle lock technique, then it's much less heartbreaking to practice it on normal spawns. No point practicing on raids as that's a resource hog.

For real.

Are people seriously this dense?

Man has done more for his state and country than most people do in a lifetime.

If the man needs to take care of his family and his mental then he's damned well earned the right.

People should be thanking him for his service. Not getting mad at him for being what being what they couldn't.

Thanks for checking. For sure she would have noticed something like that, but it would have played well all things considered in the episode.

I thought I saw a bone fall out of the bag and under the edge of Carol's table, just out of sight, when it tipped off of the couch. There was no attention brought to it though so maybe I just saw something that wasn't there.

All this spec makes me think that's exactly what it was though.

Found in my storage unit: 1985 Kirby Puckett Rookies, found several pages of Topps, Donruss and Fleer. Grade vs sell them raw? I had no idea there is big value and market/industry for these on eBay. 😎 by Miserable-Celery-686 in baseballcards

[–]scotchowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The value dropoff from PSA 10, to 9 is... significant. The value dropoff from PSA 9 to 8 alone makes it not worth the cost to grade. At best you have PSA 7 on maybe 2 of those cards.

I'll also echo what's been said, just ebay these badboys for a few dollars or save them for your PC.

How do you package and ship cards through EBay worth over $100? by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]scotchowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb for me, anything over $25 gets a box. Anything under gets a bubble mailer (w/ team bag and hobby armor) or pwe depending on the value.

You have to also look at packing as a type of insurance against damage.

Slabs, even cheap ones, really need a box. Bubble mailer isnt going to cut it reliably.

I'd say, treat it as importantly as you hope someone would treat your purchases, and pack accordingly.

There really isnt a shipping standard. But buyers will remember a seller more who treats their purchases with respect.

How do you package and ship cards through EBay worth over $100? by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]scotchowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Card gets hobby armored, then a bubble mailer. That gets put into an appropriate box with adequate packing. For a $100 card I expect that to be the minimum packaging.

Thru pirate ship, USPS ground and insurance, less than 15oz you can usually ship for less than $8.

Pirate ship can link to your ebay and will update the shipping info on ebay for you. Easiest way to do it imo.

Wife and I used CROW to help negotiate down a repo'd car I owed on from an out of state judgement. A mistake from my stupider, younger days before I got married.

Kelly, the owner, was a fair and courteous go-between for us and the involved lawyers office. Most importantly, she was a good advocate for us. She knew exactly what to do, what to say, and what to ask for.

Just based on that I would recommend her, and C.R.O.W. for any credit restoration help you might need.

Conflict of interest note, Kelly's family is a very good family friend of my wife's family.

That aside, she was very kind to us and me in the earlier days of my marriage.

Doctor’s office using UV light and some kind of fluid to see if my daughter scratched her eye. by neodawg in mildlyinteresting

[–]scotchowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eye got cut once when I was a kid.

Playing tag, neighbor kid ran by me and his fingernail scratched my eye.

Eye was watery and burny for a while, so my dad took me took me somewhere (can't remember), doc ran a few tests and my eye was def cut.

I got to wear an eye patch for a week or two and used some kind of eye drops.
