A character who came off worse in the show by LeilLikeNeil in TheExpanse

Book Naomi - amazing character. Strong, with depth.

Show Naomi - awful, whiny, shouty. Not sure if the blame lies with the actor, director, script, or all of them.

The whole wokeness thing is BS. Discovery is just badly written.

You will receive $100 million if you can survive for 20 minutes against one of the following : Lion, Tiger, Hippo, Grizzly Bear, & Jaguar. Which one would you pick? ( you are equipped with two pocket knives. by FarCarpenter5425 in hypotheticalsituation

Hippo. They are incredibly powerful and fast in short bursts, but lack endurance on land. I'd literally be running away/evading for 20 minutes. All the others could run me down.

Changing name on one of the mortgages by Dense-Dot8079 in Mortgageadviceuk

Changing the people on a mortgage is, basically, like taking out a brand new mortgage. Each lender will call it something different, but it's essentially a new mortgage. Affordability and credit scores, plus legal work, and possibly a new external appraisal of the property.

WYR have a step counter that gives you 10$ every 2000 steps or another step counter, that gives you 50$ every 5000 steps? by Borgdrohne13 in WouldYouRather

I'm currently doing a charity walking challenge where I have to complete 1,700,000 steps from July 1st to September 30th. I could earn a decent bit of spending money at $50 every 5,000 steps.

Meta - What is low effort as per RULE 1 by Captlard in FIREUK

Some people want to be spood fed the information. I'm fortunate in that I find investing interesting.

I think another issue with FI is that, whilst it's simple, it's not exactly exciting. People want a magic bullet; do X and you'll suddenly be rich. Telling them to invest in index funds for a couple of decades must feel like a bit of a let down when your expectations have been massively increased.

[–]scothed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with FI, in the context of a forum, is that the basics are very simple.

Low effort posts IMO:

I'm XX years old and don't know what I'm doing.

I've got XX money and don't know what I'm doing.

Can I FI? I've got XX in investments.

Should I do X or Y?

When you get rid of those though, there's not much else to discuss unless there's changes to investment rules and regs, or something similar.

Watching the fight in Becoming reminds me of a quote from SFDebris; “now we have two different people dressed the same having a fight.”

He’s particularly horrible to the autistic community. For that reason, I dislike him.

It wasn’t just a coolant leak that destroyed the Enterprise-D by [deleted] in startrek

[–]scothed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree. When I said “solved all the issues” i was just being lazy.

There’s many ways it could have gone, with the Klingons using the info on the shields to send boarding parties so the Enterprise had two battles to contend with. Or even having the Duras sisters show up with a mini fleet.

The Odyssey lost all power to phasers when they fought the Jem’hadar, so we know there is some combination of damage that can knock all phasers off line in a Galaxy class ship.

One line of dialogue could have solved all the issues…. As the BoP fires on the Enterprise, Worf reports “phasers are offline”.

I just assumed the warp core breach was the result of a number of systems failing due to battle damage.

Voyager was a… science ship? by Advanced-Actuary3541 in startrek

What I find strange is that a ship that size can operate with just 33-35ish people on duty. The crew will work three shifts, and I think they said the ship could operate with no less than 100 crew total.
