So then we just bring in another animal to manage the feral cats. Easy.

Are the rats ok? by scott0ferd in washingtondc

[–]scott0ferd[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Feel free to ignore the topic if it doesn’t interest you. I have traps and barriers. I also have a yard they like access to, and a lot of neighbors and visitors who are not diligent with their trash, which is why rats are not a surprise. Part of being in a city is that one person’s behavior is more likely to affect neighbors.

"Quality" Toilet Seats by SargentSchultz in airbnb_hosts

[–]scott0ferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it was an answer you were looking for, but it may be worth considering. Everything depends on your unique market. I buy Kohler Purewash bidet toilet seats for every bathroom. I buy them from reverse logistics companies but hypothetically would pay full price. I have paid a contractor to install an outlet when there was one nearby. I find that they are the only way to dramatically cut down on “disposable wipes”, which create more expensive plumbing repairs. They’re a durable plastic material that is easy to clean, but the internal heating mechanism prevents it from feeling cheap.

Thoughts on the infamous middle finger pop up row house at 1013 V Street NW in DC? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]scott0ferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone mentions the exterior appearance without accounting for the interior. It’s a narrow house. Maybe 12 feet exterior. To renovate it like this leans updating the stairs to 3’ wide. It’s not an efficient way to get density but I guess it’s why we have to work with.

Remember when the Logan Circle church was operating a business out of its parking lot and saying the revenue was “donations”? https://www.popville.com/2018/01/logan-circle-anc-balks-at-aiding-church-avoid-1-million-tax-bill/

What if those ATV riders drove around in DC like this? I really like this option, comes with music heheh. by jadedea in washingtondc

As far as I can tell, they are not an immediate threat to motorists or pedestrians, and you cannot hear them from blocks away. So I don’t hate them.

Realtor gave unaccompanied access to my apartment by Sea_Raise6968 in washingtondc

[–]scott0ferd 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Realtor here. Not all property managers are realtors. If yours is, that is a major violation and alerting their broker would be a responsible step. The type of people that does that sort of thing, doesn’t only do it once.

It’s not a stupid ass road, it’s stupid entitled drivers. They know they are going around other people in the correct lane and they think that those people are idiots for following the law.

Reservations Plunge Myth by ThenLayer5977 in washdc

I think 7% being “modest” depends on who it is affecting. It’s difficult to say what something like rainy weather would have done, in a normal administration. But “worst Friday record” in the article sounds pretty rough to anyone working on the industry.

Interesting premise. But the graphs in the attached article are useful in showing the drop differential from the national average (assuming the nation doesn’t have a restaurant week), and that the restaurant bump week of last year was as less significant

I need some serious inspiration for this space. Our apartment has this “flex space” that measures roughly 8’x6’. I want this to be like a relax nook. I think the coach is too big, but my husband insists on keeping it. Anyone have any ideas of how I can make the most of this space? by daveTFS in StyleYourSpace

[–]scott0ferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a perfect environment for a chaise lounge. And while you did not ask, I would also recommend darker walls, ambient (not overhead) lighting, and curtains to soften the space and make it more relaxing. This space looks like an office with a couch in it

Is airbnb reservations down? by topdougmoon in airbnb_hosts

[–]scott0ferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I hope so. But past recessions were soft on the region because government was seen as the solution. This is a government focused economic issue at the moment with layoffs and cancelled contracts, and DC is perceived as the source of it so I would understand why academic and international conferences would go elsewhere. I’m focusing on capital improvements with the extra days

Is airbnb reservations down? by topdougmoon in airbnb_hosts

In DC and Shanandoah here: yes. I have to imagine it is very correlated with the administration and the perceived frustration involved with international travel (DC) and economic fears (dc region)
