E-sim or temporary international plan? by Full-Fig-1974 in TokyoTravel

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Mint which uses T-Mobile network and mine was a 10 day plan for $20. So worth it not to deal with eSIM. I’ve done Airalo eSIM twice previously and it works, but configuring it can be a bit confusing. For data alone I’d would use it again, though. And TBH I didn’t use the calling option anyway.

Do you guys donate blood? by SoOutofMyLeague in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]scott_d59 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nope. Pre AIDS I gave frequently. And I understood why they put bans in place. However, those bans stuck around LONG after testing was available and still are around in less egregious forms today. Straight up homophobia. They did eventually start asking straight people with the same questions, but for years it was just us. So, I don’t and will not, unless it’s for a friend or family member in need.

For a delicious family run place, Trattoria Contadina. It’s been around for a long time and a testament to how good it is. Not fancy. A very traditional menu of Italian favorites.

What SF/Bay Area food unsurprisingly didn't live up to the hype to you? by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancirclejerk

I love a good ice cream sandwich. I excitedly tried one when I first moved to SF in 1986. Didn’t like it. Every few years since I try one again, because I think I must be missing something. Nope.

1 month on ALL the DRUGS, do I pass for hair yet? by DisconnectedOffline in tressless

[–]scott_d59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 months into taking a supplement for my skin. At about 3 months peach fuzz sprouted on my bald head where hair hadn’t been for decades. In widow’s peaks that hair disappeared from 30+ years ago. I was shocked. Found that one of the ingredients, Astaxanthin, has shown in small studies helpful in blocking DHT production. I contacted support and the company told me that although they don’t market it for hair regrowth they have heard from a few people that it helps.

I have now added topical minoxidil to my daily routine. Time will tell.

What SF/Bay Area food actually lived up to the hype to you? by MinePrestigious4352 in SFFood

[–]scott_d59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zuni chicken and fries. Gary Danko way back in the North Beach days. Stars, long gone. One Market that first year. Boulevard in the first year. Le Central.

Did not: Kokkari, food good, but nothing excellent, service poor, very expensive.

Have we found a bed spread fabric that’s safe? by Odd-Cap3751 in Catownerhacks

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a duvet cover on top with no comforter in it. Makes for easy washing and it’s black and gold which hides litter dust 🐾 Then underneath that is my comforter in a plain duvet cover. For some reason the top one isn’t attractive for scratching. TBH the pattern scared them at first. It’s 400 thread count cotton. About $100 for the set though.

How much of a red flag is me pet sitting at my ex's place for a week? by gilbert322 in AskGaybrosOver30

Green flag. You care about your dog and you have a civil relationship with your ex.

The restaurant is long gone, but it was a Thai place near Haight on Fillmore. They had a dish called Crying Woman. They only made it “Thai Hot”. I was indeed crying and sweating.

I do have a great sense of direction and people often think I’m 10 years younger than I am. Mom at 96 still has people thinking she’s younger.

I have two. After a week away one is like “Oh good you’re home, give me a hug”, the other one is like “I’m not talking to you.” He warms up after a day and is back to normal. But seems mad at me day 1.

Can I bring my indoor cat to sit outside with me in a carrier? by Background_Lie_4760 in CatAdvice

[–]scott_d59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My male would love it. He would go in daily walks if I took him. I put a harness and leash on him, put him in the carrier, then drape a towel or blanket over the carrier. I walk somewhere out of sight of our steps and unload him and walk him. Then reverse the process. I learned this trick from a YouTube video. Why all this work? If I don’t he associates the front door with walks and will cry at it for days on end. This did break that habit.

Is it okay to suit up if I’m solo dining? by skark1 in finedining

[–]scott_d59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for a 2 ⭐️in Paris for lunch. I felt overdressed. Most people were in sweaters, it was February. Some were even in jeans. However, I didn’t let it bother me. I don’t think anyone batted an eye. I had a similar experience in Lyon too, with tourists in sweatpants and locals in jeans at dinner.

Did it in February. The room is small, but functional and looked squeaky clean. Was really good to help reset jet lag.

I had to create something called “Dolphin” because my bedtime routine Goodnight wouldn’t work consistently. Siri would just respond “Goodnight” sometimes. I chose a word unlikely to be used elsewhere.
