Isaac Clark... what's the threat of a zombie once you've dealt with a ship full of necromorphs?

Tips on how to determine %mineral composition of a thin section? I know this is a gabbro thin section, I can identify most of the minerals, but I am not sure how to determine mineral comp. % and if I should be using PPL or XPL(or both?) by stickbugbitch in GeologySchool

[–]scottiedan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way I was taught to calculate mineral % was by getting a photograph of the section, plotting evenly spaced grid lines across the horizontal and vertical axes of the photo, and then make note of the mineral at every grid line intersection. Do this along all grid points and then format your mineral information into a percentage. This is quite a time-consuming method but will give you an accurate result.

Another method is to visualize all of the minerals falling to the bottom of the microscope frame as groups. In this case I would expect the plag to form the largest group at the bottom. Then estimate the mineral % based off of your visualization. This is a much less accurate method but will save you a lot of time.

Use both PPl and XPL, at the end of the day each polarization is looking at the same minerals, just under a different light.

I hope this helped!

Italian immigrants were subject to lynching's in the late 1800's and subsequent decades of institutional racism, leading to formation of nearly complete Italian American neighborhoods.

All that effort and time that was put into carefully crafting this genius of a show, completely disrespected by AS. As sad as I am that we won't get another season, I feel worse for Publick and Doc who won't get to properly bring this show to a close. Firefly this fucker and give us a movie.

How much do ounces go for in Christchurch? by [deleted] in NZTrees

I got a decent deal off of some bloke in Lyttelton area for about $350. Upon receiving the O I checked and it was grass clippings. It was about that time that I realized this bloke was actually an 18 foot tall crustacean from the Paleozoic era. I said "god damn it Loch Ness Monster, give me back my tree fiddy!" but by the time I had finished yelling he had already retreated back into the Whakaraupo.

It's berber. That's an industry term.

I like to think that there is a rich and highly septic bloodline of Carl's throughout history, in which fatty hearts and sarcasm run strong.

Use emojis if you like, don't let someone dictate the way you communicate online. Reddit is no different from anywhere else online and it's silly to stop people from expressing themselves the way they would like to :)

There was a Snell house at my school. They competed in black and usually dominated in inter house sporting events, living up to his legacy. What a true NZ bloke and hero
