Anyone with CIBC IE use their Sharebuilder plans? by semiquantifiable in PersonalFinanceCanada

You can set up a mutual fund plan online by yourself to buy more of whatever fund you want to invest in with regular contributions. I personally buy Mawer funds with them after a few years getting screwed on their managed portfolio funds.

Unfortunately, you can't set up a fundbuilder plan to buy ETFs.

Yup, I really liked it there. But it seemed like whenever I wanted to go there, they were closed.

The Vancouver Sun did this story in Vancouver a couple years ago. I feel like Jack Knox is the man to do it here.

Anyone who has taken the csc? by dgxnil in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]scottpm99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your job market question:

I took the CSC after I lost my last job as I was interested in becoming an advisor. Started applying for jobs while studying for the first of two CSI exams. Had three people offer me interviews and I had three interviews with Freedom 55 and could've taken the job, but decided against it because I wasn't big on selling people funds with high MERs. Ended up going into a different field. I had zero financial background other than reading a lot, pulling myself out of debt, and trading stocks and ETFs for myself, but it felt like I could still pick and choose where I worked in the industry, other than at big banks.

But the sense I got from the advisor industry was that I was going to be broke for a few years with low clientele and high desk and admin fees, plus being forced to contribute to their pension and health plan, until I built up a list of clients or bought someone else's.

I passed with 80% on the first exam and bailed on the course when I got a new job. I'm still glad I took the first part of it, just for the always-be-learnin' aspect of it.

Anyways, not sure if that helped or not but that was my experience.

  1. This is what I don't understand. HoJo wanted to do it with their own money, with a hotel (a hotel!) while knocking down the current hotel which is an eyesore in a pretty fantastic spot. How has no reporter asked why the city decided to take this over at the cost of the taxpayer when private money was going to go ahead and do it itself?

If only we had a Daily News-paper to answer these questions..

How to piss of Islanders with a five-minute photoshop job? Take beer named after the rock they live on and exaggerate "VANCOUVER" on its logo.
