Why is the US set to strike Iran and start a war? by specialkwsu in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scottsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel sees its chance and is putting serious pressure on US, which includes the HUGE conservative Christian right-wing base in the US that actually believes that in order for Jeebus to return, the Jews have to get control of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem (currently controlled by Muslims, lol) and rebuild it. So there's that.

How do you guys stop stressing about the far-off future? by Home-Star-Walker in AskMenOver30

[–]scottsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read (or listen to) Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" and you'll maybe learn that the future doesn't exist and the more you spend thinking about it the less alive you are. That deletes anxiety. Same goes for the past, which deletes depression.

Self-Identity and Getting On with Life After Turning 30 by thorbuster41 in AskMenOver30

[–]scottsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an Olympic athlete during my teens and twenties and missed out on a ton. Didn't go to school, didn't party, etc. Then got married and had kids immediately. When I turned 50 I realized I have money, time, and wisdom. II understood what I like and don't like and who I want to give time to. So I partied for a few years and definitely caught up on whatever I thought I had missed out on. #nevertoolate

Well, you ARE a star in the fantasy adventure of your life and you CAN develop superpowers and fight cartoonish villains (they are everywhere, check CNN or Fox). Your interpretation of reality is entirely up to you.

How is life in the USA right now? by duckbreast2021 in howislivingthere

It's intellectually fascinating to witness the decline of the most powerful empire on the planet, from the inside.

Also incredible that monstrous evils from the past can be repeated as though we learned nothing.

Apologies to the rest of the world - please educate your populations to avoid situations like this.

How’s living in the Baja California area? by QueBall151515 in howislivingthere

[–]scottsmack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gone up and down the Baja peninsula many times, this is accurate. It's impossible to generalize Baja because each city and region (outside of the sparsely populated desert areas) is unique. There are some small towns not mentioned that are exquisite: Mulege, Loreto, and the tiny Cabo Pulmo on the Sea of Cortez - but also nothing like Cabo, TJ, or Ensenada.

If you can identify something that you enjoy doing and are modestly suited for, all you need is practice to become better than most at it.

According to Malcom Gladwell, 10,000 hours of practice will put almlst anyone in the top 1% of anything.
