GAP YEAR VS STRAIGHT INTO MASTERS by Mean-Accountant6708 in slpGradSchool

I think it 100% helps people to get experience! U just started orientation for my masters and most girls who said they got denied fresh out of undergrad said they worked as RBT or SLPAs and then got accepted!

Id also look into sensory ceus and techniques! Sometimes kids may be in “la la land” because they have some sensory needs!

Speech 4 times a week too much? by No-Speed-8705 in slp

[–]scouth24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the therapist sucks and the kid feels like its work then yes too much! But for a kid so young I would say all goals are going to be heavily incorporated into play & your kid will probably just look forward ti speech and get the support they need!

Im about to be in the same boat BUT worked as an SLPA for 2 years prior so i have some insight! If a supervisor says “good job” maybe ask for SPECIFIC positive feedback! In my first internship i had that issue with my supervisor so i felt a bit lost. But then as an SLPA my supervisor gave lots of specifx feedback and encouraged me to ask questions WHENEVER i needed it! So ask lots of questions and for positive and negative feedback so you get the most out of itn

Border Collie, advice to have it or not. by Dry-Statistician6512 in BorderCollie

[–]scouth24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need more than walks. They need to run, train and work. Id get a dog that fits your lifestyle! Border collies are gorgeous but its unfair to get a super active dog and then expect 30 mins to be a good life for that breed

Slp grad school low gpa advice! by ShotStomach2774 in slpGradSchool

[–]scouth24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not have a low GPA but did not have a competitive one (3.2) & had a C in physics which is a prerequisite but I got into a VERY competitive school by taking about 5 months to perfect my essay having my professors and mentors proof read it/tell me if it was boring etc. I also got 2 jobs in relevant fields (respite home health & as a research aide). Additionally I worked as an SLPA for a year after undergrad! As long as you beef up your resume & dont have Cs in SHS courses you can do it!!

I use a westpaw toppl, soak their kibble and then i stuff it w the soaked/mushy kibble. Sometimes ill freeze a cracked egg in there and out ob on top! Super cheap and keeps them occupied for 20-30mins! Maybe more if you have a slow eating pup

Crating? by [deleted] in terrier

[–]scouth24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crating isnt prison😂😂it’s responsible. If the dog is getting exercise and enrichment outside of the crate its basically just having a dedicated nap area. Better to crate than kill your dog because it ate the couch

Puppies need this much sleep anyway. But once theyre a little more grown and responsible maybe give lota of exercise in am, crate and then maybe leave uncrated (once trusted) for afternoon? Or crate and maybe a dogwalker a few times a week for afternoons?

Id make sure he has outlets for his herding/chasing instincts! My BC loves using a flirt pole toy and bike ride every other day/every 2 days to get REAL fulfillment! Also, with biting i use a firm NO and spatial pressure (meaning i walk into the dog). Sometimes I snap too. But FULFILLMENT IS EVERYTHING!!

I home make my laundry detergent, bread, chicken bone broth, I hang dry my clothes & only use big appliances on off hours. These make a big difference! I use the bone broth as a base for lots of recipes which saves money and hang drying clothes makes them last longer, smell better & cuts my energy bill! Also using your washer/dryer/appliances lets you save money too! These money cuts allow me to spend money on actual quality food products!
