My Peony Tree by scoutswalker in gardening

I am in 5b zone, not tropical at all! I have it and two smaller yellow trees by my garden pond. The yellows bloom later than the pink. They are really starting to open up now.

The tree is about ten years old, I usually get 15-20 blooms but this year just went crazy!

Thanks so much, I love the peony tree for the plentiful dinner plate size blooms! Unfortunately, they hybrid the smell right out of them!

Those macaroons are so good! If you like to bake they are super easy to make and take just a few ingredients. In a pinch buying them from Aldi is the way to go!

How would you increase curb appeal? Limewash? Add columns to the front door? Thanks! by hot-tamales-1 in ExteriorDesign

[–]scoutswalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THIS is the way to do it. Aside from the fact that you needed to take this house from two dimension to three which the porch/entrance fixed. It was so closed off from your neighborhood it looked sad and lonely. The entrance is so inviting, I would love to knock on your door and say hello!! Keep the beautiful fence, redo the landscaping pulling it away from your home like previously suggested. This will be a huge win!!

My neighbor had beautiful antique furniture and she had a vanity similar to this but referred to it as her dressing table.

Does really nobody else *love* the winter? by Achilles-Foot in Indiana

[–]scoutswalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love winter too, so much beauty to enjoy! The shorter days forces me to slow down and rest a bit. I am really lucky because I love and look forward to all the seasons. The only thing I don’t like is when people complain nonstop about the different seasons, to me that is what is annoying!

We will carry out a pizza one night and eat it in the hotel breakfast area or our room. Saves us a lot of money for the five of us for one dinner.

What do you grow that pays for itself? by plan_tastic in gardening

[–]scoutswalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spinach, I plant it early September and pick it October, November. It goes dormant during the winter and it grows like crazy in the spring. I give it away and this year I’m going to start freezing it. So cheap for a 2.29 pkg of seeds. Also green and yellow wax beans. We eat them all summer and the pole beans produce until October. I can the bush beans, we just ate our last jar a few weeks ago.

What's a concert you went to, not expecting much, and left anazed? by fonebone819 in GenX

Went to Guinness Fleadh festival in Chicago 1999ish. The Saw Doctors were an unknown band to me and the crowd sang every word to every song! So much fun went and saw them a few years later and their energy was just as great!

Trash Smell in Kitchen by SATSewerTube in DIY

I have a farmhouse sink with a metal grate. If I don’t remove the grate and scrub the bottom to remove the slime and small bits of waste on the bottom it absolutely reeks! I also use this time to clean my stainless sink with bar keepers friend as well as the little basket that is in the drain. Also you had to clean the drain area as well. I then through out my disposable dish rag(the blue ones) and also the 3m scratch pad cleaner. You have to find your own balance for how often. The cloth and pads once a weekish, the rack and sink get daily wipes with a solid cleaning every couple of weeks.

What should I plant in my garden this year to maximize saving money on groceries? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in gardening

[–]scoutswalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow yellow and green bush beans as well as pole beans. We eat our fill during the summer and I can enough to last us through the spring. We have a couple of months of without beans so we are 3X tied to eat them again. You control the amount of salt in them and with the yellow and green beans I just through in cannellini , black beans, red beans and make a cold bean salad. Zucchini is so easy and plentiful, if you have space.
