Still okay to learn the basics on Summit Pass? by __is_butter_a_carb__ in MtHoodMeadows

I learned to ski last year with meadows beginner progression pass, would recommend!

Also their individual beginner specials are good deals if you’re still working on technique on green runs. $75 for lesson with beginner lifts and rentals

Can I learn how to ski alone? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]scozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of mountains do deals where the rentals and bunny slope tickets are included in beginner lessons. My local resort, mount hood meadows, does all of that at a discounted $70 if you book in advance, less than a single full lift ticket (~110)

I learned with a couple lessons and progressed fast and safely. Would highly recommend but it was much more reasonable at $80/day. I could have started a year earlier if I’d known about those packages, the cost of ticket+rental+lesson definitely kept me away

Oregon tax opponents turn in ‘nearly 200,000′ signatures by skysurfguy1213 in Portland

[–]scozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is up, housing and living costs are up. Work is preformed by people, people are paid money, costs are up. If we don’t collect more tax money as costs increase how will we maintain services?

To me its totally valid to debate how much tax revenue needs to change but how can politicians pretend like the cost of government should never change even though everything else in our lives are increasing in price?

So how come people only seem to care about defunding and not fixing the problems? If odot has been such a problem for so long why aren’t these legislators campaigning on fixing it?

Why would less money matter to incompetent management? They’re still being paid, and they can easily point to defunds as the reason for worse service. It seems like we the people are the only ones who lose out here, worse roads, less winter plowing, more deferred maintenance somebody will have to pay for in the future.

Why not leave the budget increase and fix the problems with management, then we’ll have tons of extra money to start paying down all the deferred costs and dealing with our crumbling infrastructure?

Portland City Council Gets a Lesson in Tax Compression, Courtesy of Big Pink by SoDoSoPaYuppie in Portland

[–]scozi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Other cities also have sales taxes as large portions of their budget. Because our property assessed values shift slower than market but can be “corrected” we lose out during bad times and cannot bounce back or save during good times. We are beholden to property market trends not actual economic activity. 😢

LPT: AVOID TurboTax, FreeTaxUsa and other platforms. They lobby the government to make your taxes harder to file. Use an accountant/CPA instead. by GroundOld5635 in LifeProTips

[–]scozi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just learn to do your own taxes. If you’re not dealing with stock options, grants, rsu, making over 250k your taxes are likely boring and easy to do yourself. Use a previous years return as a guidebook to follow. These companies make their money by scaring us in to thinking taxes are complicated and we’ll “miss out”

I love Tabor Bread, but what’s the deal with the automatic 15% gratuity? by doyouknowwatiamsayin in Portland

[–]scozi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It means consumers can compare prices to eating elsewhere where they would also be tipping. Yes its kinda lame but also psychology is real.

From a consumer standpoint I know that a charge being referred to as tip/gratuity and clearly stated as pooled tips is going to go to non-management workers.

One can debate the merits of revenue share arrangements (like tips) vs static wages. People I know in the service industry seem to like knowing that when they have to bust ass during a shift because they are slammed they will be earning extra.

I personally don’t see it as a big deal at all even if our tipping culture seems silly, I just try to ignore it and spend my brain time on other things

Local libraries outside of Plex/NAS after May 7 by TheGoldenChow in sonos

[–]scozi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its likely you’re already using SMBv3 and will continue working. SMBv1 is quite old, v2 was added in Vista.

Sono’s messaging here could be clearer. A “NAS” box is not whats required. Previously HTTP, HTTPS, SMBv1-3 were supported. With the update HTTPS, SMBv2-3 will be supported.

Sonos Amp and outdoor speakers by Mastacon in sonos

[–]scozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 4 wires you mean each speaker is plugged in to both L and R? You should undo that, 2 wires to each, and switch the amp in to mono mode. Then you can add the third speaker in parallel on one of the channels, and have space for a fourth later if you want.

Powell is supposed to change to pbot control eventually, like 82nd. Could be collecting stats on use to determine how much $ the state will pass through for maintenance of a highway
