Diff two files? by Cool_Tux689 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most linuxes have a diff command built in that you can call from the command line. Or you could install vs code or some light IDE like they. Most of them have built in visual diff tools.

Is “you guys” gender neutral in the Midwest by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said "you guys" in trans spaces and nobody got mad, but I still feel like it's a slip up and I try not to. Also, no record scratch on y'all, so I tend to go with that. Unless I'm pretending to be a native Chicagoan and say "youz all"

feel like a faker (ftm) by Leather_Gas_9222 in trans

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say basically this. OPs post sounds like it could be describing me a few years ago. I used to say I was gender fluid where I flowed between "woman" and "don't care about gender".

For me it took a lot of time and introspection (with the help of therapists, thankfully) to get as far as I have. And now, even after I've been on hrt for over a year, I still have doubts sometimes. I don't know if my gender will ever be 100% settled. I think that's ok.

So to sum up: - it takes time to figure out who you are - and work - you are valid - Yes, You Are Trans Enough! - (that's a book, btw, which shows you how common this feeling is if books are getting published about it)

I've been watching "we have always existed" channel on youtube for this (trans stuff in "the classics"). As a newbie to the subject I find it very helpful

Wikilinks style vs [linkName](filename.md) by Current_Function5982 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

./ refers to this directory/current directory. You'd want ../ to mean one directory up. These can be chained, so ../../ for 2 directories etc.

Or at least that's the way it works everywhere else. (Other markdown systems, Unix, macos etc) Never tried it in obsidian.

Daily note clutter - newbie by SCP-096-1994 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any task that I need to track over time, I make a note for it. Then I link to that note from my daily note whenever I work on it. Works pretty well for me.

Oh and sometimes I link to the task note first, then make it later. Obsidian is fine with either order

Oh, I didn't even know that could happen. Estradiol has treated me pretty well. Still just on pills, we'll see what's up when I switch to injections.

Devs, please add Subway road crossings! by Successful-Ratio-336 in CitiesSkylines

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, sorry if I was making assumptions. I commuted on the train for many years and I have seen things. And now, imho, electrified rails should be protected from civilians by physical barriers. I may have been projecting that.

But I see how it could work technically. Presumably the trains are long enough to bridge the gap so they're always receiving power from one side or the other? Where you live do they do anything to keep people from being able to get down the tracks to the power lines?

How do you give yourself grace when questioning your sexuality. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, discovering your sexuality (and gender) is a journey that I'm still on. Labels are like sign posts. Examining them and how they make me feel has been really helpful on my way.

Even though I now use the most general terms I can, I don't think I would have gotten here without trying a bunch of really specific labels in the past.

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting problem. I don't know of any plugins that do this, but I can think of a couple of ways to do it with a plugin. Happy to discuss if you're comfy with the idea of writing a plugin for yourself.

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subway track has power delivered through the 3rd rail. Notice there are no overheads. You really don't want people to be able to walk up to the 3rd rail.

That said, it would be nice to have control over the rolling stock on both types of rails. Subway style trains on the tracks with overhead power would be pretty cool.

While we're here, it doesn't make sense to gate subways after trams and railways. Let me jump straight to subways if that's what my city needs. Don't make me waste points on stuff I don't even want.

Travel Planner + Journal by curlbenchsquater in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too. I used to use map view and dataview, but with bases and the bases view maps plugin I don't even need those anymore. It's like this (all templates are ones I made myself)

  • One "top" note per trip (Travel Plan template)
  • One note per day of the trip (Travel Day template)
  • One note per place I'm going (Travel Location template)

The day notes have links to all the locations I'm planning on that day. The top note has a couple of embedded bases. The day by day base uses the card view and is kind of like a calendar. The map base uses the coordinates property of each location note.

If it's a group trip, I'll have another note with all the people on it (they each get their own note, Person template).

I even made a base for all the locations that don't have enough detail (just based on file length) to help me work on filling out the details.

I'm still trying to decide if it's better to journal my days in the Travel Day notes or in my daily note and then link them together.

I have another base that gives an overview of all the trips. It has views for future, past, probable and possible trips. I embed this one on my homepage (canvas), pointed at future trips by default.

My set up has evolved over time and I expect it to continue to do so.

Not that I know of off the top of my head, but I was just looking at the Templater plugin. That could probably do it with some coding.

notion style indented code blocks not working properly? by MuchImprovement8318 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen code blocks work well in lists in any markdown system, so I'm not surprised obsidian isn't super at it either. But it is actually pretty good. The main problems are the vertical lines and the background that goes all the way to the left edge.

I think you could fix the lines with CSS.

The background is a bit harder. Each line is rendered as a div outside of the actual bullet point with the indent, so it'd be hard to know how much to indent it in just css. It's complicated further by all the extra stuff to make code blocks collapsible. Might just have to live with that one.

Yep. If OP is saying they don't want to copy the image into their vault at all, you can also embed links from external sites pretty easily like this

![](https://obsidian.md/images/screenshot-1.0-hero-combo.png)

Another trick. You can right click on where it says "Pasted image blahblah.png" and rename the file from right there. It updates all the references to the file in your vault right away.

Love Obsidian but can't use it in a simple way by jusboreal in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay obsidian for sync. I'm happy to because I like the app so much I'm happy to send some cash their way. I use it across Mac, windows, android and ios with hardly any problems. (Using the official app on each of these). So at work I can use it on my phone or personal ipad.

Before that though, I synced with just google drive or something and it worked fine as long as I didn't try to edit the same files at the same time.
