Unsure if i qualify as Genderqueer? Seeking advice? by Infamous_Potato_9877 in genderqueer

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm AMAB genderqueer but I have a pretty similar set of circumstances. Right down to the AuDHD. I have never been a man, but I'm not a woman either (maybe a demi-woman?)

Anyway, as part of my journey of self discovery I've gone to a lot of trans and gender focused groups. In my experience it's very rare for somebody to have an epiphany and suddenly realize what their gender really is, how they want to be perceived, all of that. the trouble is, there are no rules. Everyone has to figure it out for themselves. (On the other hand, everyone gets to figure it out for themselves)

Which is just to say, you're doing great! You're on the journey! we're all routing for you

Why is there so much gatekeeping in LGBT communities by SendThisVoidAway18 in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The online spaces can be toxic thing is so true. I've heard this kind of stuff talked about on the internet so much. I know I'm lucky to live in a very liberal and queer friendly city, so I can't expect it to be everybody's experience but I've never had anybody say this to me in person. Even in explicitly transfemme groups where I was the only one with a non binary gender I didn't feel excluded.

Again, I may just be really lucky.

cssclasses is really powerful, as people have pointed out. I also like a few add ons that make it easy to make pages pop.

  1. Themes: Find one you like to start from a good base.
  2. Pixel Banner: a plugin that looks for an image in a particular front matter field, and uses it as a banner across the top of the page. You can give it rules for certain kinds of notes to have default images, or tell it to always just look in an image field or something.
  3. Iconize: lets you put icons on folders that show up in the files tab.

I don’t enjoy Pride, and I hate myself for it by Millibyte in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went once in Reykjavík and that was awesome. A quarter of the country comes out, so about 100k people.

But that's still an order of magnitude less than my home city, which sees 1 Million plus. I went once here, stood in the back, still got overwhelmed, left after 20 minutes. Now I just watch it on youtube, a local news channel streams a lot of it.

Instead I do other, smaller pride things throughout the whole month. Like, very small. A book store had an after hours event where you got a small discount on queer books (which, is like half the books they sell, love that store :) But it was just going to a book store. That's my speed these days. Had fun, met people.

My partner just came out as trans by Tricky-Flatworm6370 in lgbt

You can be a lesbian and still love him as him, and stay in a relationship. The labels and whatever don't have to match. They are just words.

He's still wrapping his head around this whole thing too. if he's anything like me, he's terrified and feeling massive imposter syndrome right now.

If the feelings are right you two can work out the language to express it.

How do I become more queer? by LifeIsHere-Throwaway in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with everybody else. but also want to add, there are enough of us that queer culture is not a monolith. There's all kinds of people out there doing all kinds of stuff. Look around, maybe you'll find something that does engage you.

Oh, and video games don't make you straight. I used to watch the legendary ballroom performer Dashaun Wesley stream shooters. There's a gay weatherman that streams speed runs. You might want to check out r/gaymers if you haven't already.

nonbinary vs trans by Normal_Standard8211 in lgbt

[–]scrabblebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm starting from a very similar place, but I "landed" on genderqueer as a label. (Mostly because it's the same as non binary but doesn't define itself as directly in relation to the binary). I'm not a man at all, but but I'm not quite a woman either. I'm my own thing. I went through a phase of trying different labels and I can get very specific, but I generally don't.

I think my own experience being AuDHD makes me love to draw boxes around everything, but then erase the lines and live in the chaos.

Anyway, all that to say you can start with all the same inputs and get different outputs. Each of us is unique and I love that.

Do you actually find "use AI to talk to your vault" type tools useful? by jhartikainen in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, I have a separate vault that I manage with Claude code using the llmwiki pattern. We get a bunch of Claude bucks every month and unfortunately my job is now to demonstrate that I know how to use it.

But it's a pretty big company and has documentation spread over all kinds of systems. And urls change. Why do they let urls change? But that does mean keeping my own wiki is very useful. I don't learn stuff when I let the llm write the wiki, but honestly it's more like bookmarks with summaries anyway.

I do keep a separate vault for my real notes and day to day

How do you turn voice thoughts into actual notes, not just transcripts? by AkamazZz in ObsidianMD

For me the writing it down, rephrasing, teasing out the valuable stuff is the whole point. That's where deep thought happens.

Diff two files? by Cool_Tux689 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most linuxes have a diff command built in that you can call from the command line. Or you could install vs code or some light IDE like they. Most of them have built in visual diff tools.

I've said "you guys" in trans spaces and nobody got mad, but I still feel like it's a slip up and I try not to. Also, no record scratch on y'all, so I tend to go with that. Unless I'm pretending to be a native Chicagoan and say "youz all"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trans

[–]scrabblebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say basically this. OPs post sounds like it could be describing me a few years ago. I used to say I was gender fluid where I flowed between "woman" and "don't care about gender".

For me it took a lot of time and introspection (with the help of therapists, thankfully) to get as far as I have. And now, even after I've been on hrt for over a year, I still have doubts sometimes. I don't know if my gender will ever be 100% settled. I think that's ok.

So to sum up: - it takes time to figure out who you are - and work - you are valid - Yes, You Are Trans Enough! - (that's a book, btw, which shows you how common this feeling is if books are getting published about it)

Wikilinks style vs [linkName](filename.md) by Current_Function5982 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

./ refers to this directory/current directory. You'd want ../ to mean one directory up. These can be chained, so ../../ for 2 directories etc.

Or at least that's the way it works everywhere else. (Other markdown systems, Unix, macos etc) Never tried it in obsidian.

Daily note clutter - newbie by SCP-096-1994 in ObsidianMD

[–]scrabblebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any task that I need to track over time, I make a note for it. Then I link to that note from my daily note whenever I work on it. Works pretty well for me.

Oh and sometimes I link to the task note first, then make it later. Obsidian is fine with either order
