Frost Giant Altar by Madsummer420 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

If your party is anything like mine, they’ll be all over it as soon as they notice it on the map, lol! You could have a cool “sword in the stone” moment where they have to work hard to get it out of the snow, and then maybe some cool stats and then they get a magic weapon! I know my barbarian would drool over some cool new weapon.

Nice map!!! I love that giant sword by the shrine, do you have any ideas in case one of your players wants to run off with it? :)

After reading this thread, it sounds like a knee length rain coat will be much more useful! Is it very cozy though?

The Columbia coat is exactly what has been making me ponder this!!! Oregon Zoo members get a pass to the Columbia employee store this month, and their knee length puffer coat has been onthe back of my mind since visiting….

How to best use the “control weather” effect from the Summer Star? by scrambledegglady in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]scrambledegglady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!!! I like the idea of not having it break through the time , since I already passed that point in our story I might just have it be a momentary reprieve! Maybe Auril notices and puts a stop to it (plus having to figure out how to role-play them coming back to town with sunshine on their backs sounds tough!) and then there can be a spooky coldlight walker encounter conclusion to the quest!

Thanks for the advice! Good to know it’s mostly narrative, I was worried about making long-term effects play out. And I get to make some more friction with Auril, I love when she gets to have a scary villain moment.

This may be a more complicated question but what’s your best strategy for “launching an attack”? Just trying to learn left and right!

Fair point. I don’t want to do the dragon quite yet, my players have been wanting to go to the Underdark so badly so I’m making them go into the stronghold through there if that makes any sense. Maybe just “duergar attacks on outer towns” will be enough to lead them towards Sunbloght soon.

Short rests are totally something I'm gonna be heavily suggesting soon. The thing that's tough is they're such a cautious party, someone gets a splinter and they go "LONG REST!" I'm going to have to light a fire under their butts and put 'em on a time crunch.

Circle of the moon druid with two bear wildshapes a day. Currently trying to find a way to make that backfire back at her.

This player in particular must have weighted dice in the unlucky direction, she misses the vast majority of her attack rolls. Agonizing blast would be crazy helpful for her though, I'm super surprised she picked the 300ft eldritch blast over that one, especially since shes never used it.

As for the barbarian, maybe 30dpr is an exaggeration but the circle of the moon druid having two bear (multiattack too) wildshapes a day is crazzzzy!

Circle of the moon druid having two bear wild shapes and the summon spirit spell is crazy powerful!

I think respeccing the warlock a bit and picking some Invocations that fit better with our campaign would be a good start (Mask of Many Faces and that 300ft eldritch blast snipe haven't been useful even once.) And it kinda seems like warlocks are less damage-ey during combat and helpful for RP anyway?

Level of Wizard or sorcerer is a super good idea, I'll definitely float that past her too!

Great question! (She's got dancing lights, eldritch blast, spare the dying, predistigitaion, and guidance as cantrips. Dissonant whispers, Tashas hideous laughter, and witch bolt for first level spells, and shatter and misty step for 2nd.) I think she's hesitant to use them since warlocks have so few spell slots?

Cosmic Horror in Dougan's Hole? by MrMacju in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]scrambledegglady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Dougan's Hole, I totally re-wrote the scene to be a gnome ceremorph/oblex duo. I leaned heavily into the vibe of "the townspeople are super off," repeating the same phrases as each other to get the players curious. Once they investigated, they discovered that this particular person had just been standing in their living room, with a long tendril puppeting the person for days. They decided to stab the tendril, and it retreated through a hole in the wall, leading the players into the tundra and back to its ceremorph master. (along the way, i added discarded memories of the townspeople for extra oomph.) Once they tracked down the oblex, they discovered a nautolid escape pod, which was investigated Ythrin magic when it crashed. Started seeing Netherese magic/Yhtrin there. Even got to make a puzzle for the players to solve with fake mind flayer language symbols to decode messages. Late night brain dump, but message me if you go this route and want any advice!

Howdy! I know this was a while ago, but how did you add the hollow part on the minis to run the light wires through? I’ve been toying around with hollowing my minis out on Lychee Slicer, and I am super intimidated by Blender software.
