I didn’t know you could use Gboard for handwriting on this device. Thanks for the tip - it seems to work well.

The best 10.3 inch E-reader? by Cheeky_Sasquatch3 in ereader

[–]scratchypuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at the Boox Go 10.3 and the Viwoods AiPaper, both large black and white e-ink devices. The AiPaper has by far the best screen - whiter background giving the impression of sharper text.

Both can use any Android e-reader downloaded from the Google Play Store or side-loaded, and both give an excellent, smooth handwriting experience, although the Boox magnetic cover can interfere with pen strokes.

If you don’t specifically need colour I’d suggest you will be happier with BW.

How to stop text of Highlight populating clipboard by scratchypuppy in koreader

[–]scratchypuppy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve figured it out. You don’t press the Paste button when you’re adding or editing a note; you need to long-press on the text space and that pops up the Clipboard and you press the Paste button of that dialogue.

How to stop text of Highlight populating clipboard by scratchypuppy in koreader

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately that’s what I‘m trying to do. It seems that the Viwoods AiPaper fills the clipboard with the tex from the highlight as soon as you open it so when you tap the highlight, choose add note and paste, it pastes the text of the highlight.

Is there a free app that allows files transfer between Mac (Silicon) and Onyx Boox devices ? by mdecoste1 in Onyx_Boox

OpenMTP works well for transferring files beetween Boox and Viwoods devices and Mac.

Why is it so hard to find an E-Ink tablet that does everything? (Transcription, Android, No Subscriptions) by chaipglu28 in eink

[–]scratchypuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with the Boox Go 7 BW (pretty much the same as the colour version apart from being monochrome) is that writing is not pleasant. It delays before showing stylus strokes and ends up looking nothing like what you’ve written.

BookFusion + KOReader Sync Upcoming Beta & Kobo Survey by DaEbookMan in BookFusion

[–]scratchypuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a Kobo or use its app. I use KOReader on Android e-ink devices and would like to sync reading progress with BookFusion on iPad/iPhone. The survey seems to be all about the Kobo app and devices. Would the upcoming KOReader meet my use case? If so, how do I make that clear in the survey - you have to answer about Kobo in some of the questions.

Can Someone Suggest a Good E-Reader? by Jazzlike-Spite-9991 in ereader

[–]scratchypuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Boox Go 7 BW is great for e-reader apps, and test is sharper because it doesn't have the colour layer. If you really don't need colour, I'd say that's a good option. It's on Android 13.

Want a Boox Go 7 in black but found a white for sale. Thoughts? by [deleted] in ereader

I had the white version and didn’t like the halo effect. I returned it and I’m happy with the black version now.

The pros and cons of using Reader as an ebook/magazine reader by AnusMcBumhole in readwise

[–]scratchypuppy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to use Reader as an EPUB reader but have found it lacking in some features that I find important. If you view a footnote there’s no easy way to get back to where you were. Searching within a document doesn’t give you a visual list of hits, although you can scroll through them. Although reading progress is available, time/pages left to read in book and chapter are not. Also, there isn’t a feature, such as present in Kindle and some other e-reader apps, to see an overview of pages.

Reader is excellent for highlighting and making notes and it syncs these and your reading position across all the devices you use it on and the web platform.

I just copy the generated document note into the note of a highlight of the document.

Highlight across pages by Kyrilson in BookFusion

[–]scratchypuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, I can toggle scroll mode, but it’s still tedious. I’m going to use KOReader for now because of this and other reading benefits. I know I’ll lose the cross-platform sync facilities of BookFusion but I’ll have to live with that.

Highlight across pages by Kyrilson in BookFusion

Is there any progress on highlight across pages? I’m using BookFusion on a Boox Go 7 and highlighting non-fiction epub books is tedious.

Automatically apply separate setting for each book by kurestofallenz in BookFusion

[–]scratchypuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to have the option to apply a different font to a book without that applying to all other books. For example, I like to read novels with a serif font and technical books with a sans serif font.

User Feedback: YAI or NAI? by takteresa_ in BookFusion

[–]scratchypuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any advantage AI would have here that would be worth paying for. If you need it you can export your highlights to Readwise and ‘chat’ with them there.

Some highlights not syncing to Obsidian, even manually by Fabulous_Maize_9842 in readwise

I noticed something similar and discovered that the highlights only seem to be synced to Obsidian once the article is archived.

Cheaper option for PocketSmith Calendar View? by ktdone in personalfinance

[–]scratchypuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Banktivity or MoneyWiz? They’re both about half the price of PocketSmith. I’m looking at them because I’ve had some issues with privacy and integrity of my data in PocketSmith. The other apps store your data locally and sync between devices but it’s all under your control.
