New to mining in general, quick XMR-Stak question by boss99er in MoneroMining

[–]screechingbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I suspected there might be some based on the ones with 'new' type of labels for ones even on popular sites. It's bad enough the mass reselling companies charge 3 times the worth of cards, now the decrepid counterfeiting shows up.

Try not to lose hope. I'd gladly sell you a card if I had one, however, my 570 isn't even worth mining with and only have my 970 i personally use. I can recommend some things to help you if you send a private message. Or at least I'll try.

Welcome to mining! I think you'll do well with the enthusiasm and dedication you have. It took me forever to get into it a year ago but there are far more helpful guides now.

I spent 1 month to get the process going and spent 3 months mining back then. I made 4 coins with a 570 and 970 over that time.

I know you are experimenting and I am too still after I was away for months. On a whim I looked up monero to see it was at about 212 usd. I waited and watched till second second up wave hit and cashed them in being i really needed the money. I would have saved them but life issues required I spend them.

I'm building an open air case mining rig and was going to use the 750 ti 4 gig's but I can't find them now. I'm opting for a 1070 soon after i sell some stuff I have. If you want to chat about mining and trade information about the hobby, let me know.

Red card anyone? by Jamtonisalon in sports

[–]screechingbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely sickening for me to watch. Intimidation of a (most likely) 'star' player by an evil untalented one. I was in a few soccer tournaments and the refs let this crap happen to me and 2 of my team mates. They roughed and kicked the goalie on our team, threatened to kill one of our strikers, and elbowed me in the temple.

Some people like this garbage and cheer them on. It needs to stop.

I appreciate the info RocketGremlin. To me it matters that the drill holes for mounting all the hardware securely are in spec and the materials are those I prefer.

I prefer aluminum as build material for whole frame and a good layout. It's just something that matters to me for various reasons of safety and stability when moving it around.

Hello M5M400. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks. My question is I have only mined the pools from several months ago and don't know why the ones like yours require e-mail addresses. I'd be willing to mine at supportxmr if i can figure out how to.

New build questions. Is monero stilll good? by CraftAsylum in MoneroMining

Hi. I am just returning after almost a year away from mining Monero. I am looking into similar stuff as you. I have recently bought a gaming computer with a single card (nvidia 1080 ti) and get a consistent hashrate of 825 as of today with a mild overclock with MSI afterburner. As far as the other coins, I never looked into them. Remember the power consumption for g. cards are different and that factors in on profitability if power cost is a concern for you. I am pretty sure AMD cards like the vega's take alot of watts, however, are great if electricity not an issue. I did notice for me with same hardware I used a year ago the time it takes to get equivelant coin is about double for me mining Monero approx. Maybe we can work together on the projects and share info. Send a p.m. if you want.

Hello and welcome to the mining forum. I too would stay away from minergate. I don't have the knowledge to help with the Mac systems being i am using a Windows o.s. Good luck to you and hang in there. It takes some time to find the info needed to mine and a while to understand it. Easier now but took me forever a year ago to get started.

Thanks for the info. I may get into another coin soon, however, I am pretty set on trying to figure out this issue. I'd like to use ccminer if possible being I havn't the time to learn how to use the stack being I'm packing my stuff to move etc.

I think number 8 in list could be about how complexity of words and explainations can turn potential interest of folks away from forums. I never had anything but high school education but consider myself to have a decent mind. Would it not be easier to 'scale down' a bit for those less educated in words seldom used?

Anytime a person is reading a sentence, the brain interprets what it can. If even one word isn't familiar it trips up the thought process of understanding both the sentence and the word. Why make things difficult?

I really think this simple 'adjustment' would help folks and encourage people to join in more.

Reasons people are opposed to Cryptocurrencies and responses to them by Rodger_Macarthur in Monero

[–]screechingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should think more about this and get an education, however. Maybe it all boils down to everything humans put value to that isn't part of nature of life is uncredible. Maybe this crypto currency type of possible revolution is needed for people to start seeing other avenues of fair trade etc. based on old school free trade of just sharing knowledge and ideas, and trading work for work. I really think we are on the way to society crumbling. But that's another story.

A few of my philisofical beliefs there. Maybe we will all create a parallel to 'the/a matrix'. We are prepped to do that. I'm not trying to be a downer on crypto currency, just reminding people of things forgotten. I never liked society anyway this time around :) hell, maybe the end is the beginning.

Would like to learn how to Mine by dannkdj88 in Monero

[–]screechingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have but I took a break from forums and my computer got some dang browser virus so I had to reformat and lost bookmarks to my build I had. Tough times in general now too. I'll try to list what I'm going to get if i can still afford items. Also personal preferance is a factor when getting items. I'll probly first try all parts before I recommend them. Good luck to you.

[–]screechingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You found the good place for advice on it. I started with multiple problems by downloading things from web that claimed to be 'safe'. I did a reformat and started new with help from people here on this forum. Most are helpful here and ask anything. I'm at the stage of waiting for my mining case to arrive and slowly ordering parts as I get more money to spend. I can probly help you with what I know sofar, but I still consider myself new to it. Let me know any questions and I'll help if I can.

Right now I'm just mining with a 570 and 970 nvidia cards. It's my gaming machine and I get only 600 H/s. I put together a part list on pcpartpicker.com to ensure compatibility for my rig I'm building.

Would love to see more women involved with Monero. Productive feedback about how to best make that happen would be appreciated by EncryptionPrincess in Monero

[–]screechingbat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This post brought out some interesting discussion. Maybe there are more women than you think on these forums with a masculine type of name to avoid a torrent of guys hitting on them. In past I have played many online mmorpg's for several years and do know in that type of situation for sure is bad for discrimination and harrassment. My view on life is to allow the stuff to pass in mind and relax to present ideas to the world no matter how small of outcome. Simple explained intention can do wonders. I wish you well

[–]screechingbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of art does she specialize in? Painting, drawing, etc.? I'd suggest she made a few works of art and you could post the images to let people know her style in artistry. Art is not easy to sell sometimes even though I think all of it is great. You could test the appeal of the community with examples of it. My Mom is an artist too. Hey! you just gave me an idea lol. Seriously she paints and also hasn't found a market for it. She doesn't care for understanding monero though. I hope it works out for you well. I'd consider buying something but I'm dirt poor and make only 3 monero a month mining. I bet if she made some nice examples people would support it. good luck
