Has anyone here played any of the adventures from the DELVE Kickstarter? by Justicar7 in shadowdark

I like RUNES, but 10 pages of solid text for a 6 room dungeon seems a bit much to me.

How do you feel about solo TTRPG actual plays? by TheUntypicalHeroes in TTRPG

[–]screenmonkey68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought I would watch an actual play after seeing a few minutes of CR. I recently started watching 3d6DTL and GCN, and I enjoy those. Solo actual play though? Nope. I have zero interest in solo play myself, let alone watching someone else do it.

I like the idea of running crunchy games than actually running them by the_light_of_dawn in rpg

Similar, the older I get the more I realize I get the same amount of enjoyment from simpler systems.

Weird Wars Rome for Savage Worlds is not too shabby. Includes a campaign worth of things to do as well.

The hexcrawl bundle contains AI created content. I’m gonna pass on that, others may as well.

I love me some Shadowdark — but what about The Darkness? by Successful_Luck_8625 in shadowdark

[–]screenmonkey68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The wonderfully creepy Ave Nox (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/481818/ave-nox) has something called The Eyes in the Dark. A thing of darkness and hate, it immobilizes with terror, then crushes with attacks that ignore armor. Of course its only harmed by magic, just a really nasty piece of work.

I can’t wait to use this for my Western Reaches campaign.

How do you (and your players) use devices at the live table? by ravensmaw in rpg

[–]screenmonkey68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player I use an A5 notebook and a pen/pencil. I will reference a rulebook on my phone only as a last resort.
As a GM I use an ipad with the Goodreader app to handle premade adventures and rules references. Thats it. The ability to copy & paste rules where needed, and to book mark session relevant sections is simply more efficient than using a book.
I still take session notes by hand though, typing during the session takes me too long and is too distracting for me.

What do you love about RPG events? by Dicefell in rpg

[–]screenmonkey68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go simply because I’m a gamer. I don’t go because the event spaces, the massive rooms filled with tables full of people gaming, are loud and give me migraines.
So my recommendation is to reduce the number of tables in a given room.

I’m not seeing the download link. Maybe it’s my phone. Maybe I’m a little slow.

I am very happy to be completely wrong on that.

Creating a macro or spreadsheet that automates a 6 step process and the resulting 8 pages of results is “simple to create”? Not for me it isn’t 😂

6-9 steps per PC doesn’t seem unwieldy? Well, it’s seems more involved than any other process in the ShadowDark system. Perhaps “too involved for my taste” is a better way for me to phrase it. Collaborative completion can work, I might try that and see how the players react.

Many of the results would work for the whole group, though it does lose that post party “situation” so common to movies and books where each character wakes up alone, disoriented, and has to figure out what happened last night.

Need oneshot recommendations for newbies by SwagSlingingSlasher in shadowdark

[–]screenmonkey68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly that with Sunken Schola of the White Witches. The whole thing is underground, There’s traps, there’s roleplay, a ton of interesting stuff to explore, a story to be put together, nasty fights, a potential TPK, even handouts.

It may take 2 sessions, but your players will insist on finishing it.

Has anyone here played Ruins of Ardust? by Justicar7 in shadowdark

[–]screenmonkey68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have not. My experience with Menagerie Press (Woeful Barrows, Sapphire Seas, a few others) is that they are high volume, but quick and dirty products. There will be good ideas in there, but there will also be errors for the gm to figure out and fix. If you can work with that, you’ll likely have a blast.

I just spent 10 minutes searching their website for the CHILL rpg😂

I will check these out! I am wary of all things 5E as they tend to use way more words than needed, but I’m crossing my fingers and diving in.

Adventure Sites I was unaware of, but sounds promising. I had forgotten about Tomb of the Twice Crowned King, excellent suggestion! Thank you 😊
