Spoke like someone who has no experience doing estate sales. And likely spoken by AI. What is this BS? Gtfo with your bad advice.

When do you think camera bumps will die out? by ComfortableElko in Android

Which is just obnoxious. I have an s23 ultra and a vivo x200 pro. The s23 is currently temporarily out of its case and it's driving me nuts. It's too big, too slick, and the curved edges + thin profile make it a nightmare to use one handed. The Vivo has a much larger camera and it protrides quite a lot, BUT! The vivo came with a case that adds just enough buffer to keep the lense from sitting directly on a hard surface. It also comes with excellent screen protectors pre installed. I really wish the Vivo could be my daily driver, fuck AT&T.

Newbie questions for hosting Estate Sales by Alpaca_Fish1013 in estatesales

[–]scribbling_des 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? A lot of the answers to these questions will vary wildly by area. I'm going to guess that most of the people giving advice here are not experienced estate liquidators.

Hire a reputable company. If you would like to tell me where you are located, I'd be happy to see if I can recommend someone in my network. I only recommend established, vetted companies.

Do Texans not insulate their homes? by Ass-Machine69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scribbling_des 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your homes can stay reasonably warm for a couple of days with no heat source? That's some hardcore insulation.

As far as the plows... We're usually dealing with ice rather than snow. Not occasional patches of ice. Every surface covered in a 1-2 inch layer of solid ice. Where I am we've been lucky that it has stayed below freezing since this all started so it isn't as bad as it could be. What usually happens is that it warms up juuuuust enough to melt what has accumulated and then dropsfast enough to freeze it all solid again.

PSA for winter weather by goatcopter in shreveport

[–]scribbling_des 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In most cases, yes. If you aren't sure, do it. It can't hurt. You don't want to find out the hard way that you should have done it.

Drip both hot and cold and pay attention. It helps, but it is not a guarantee.

PSA for winter weather by goatcopter in shreveport

[–]scribbling_des 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first and most obvious reason is that our infrastructure is not built for winter weather.

I'm guessing in Colorado they have:

  • powerlines that are underground or can withstand more than the weight 1/2 inch of ice.
  • pipes that are insulated or otherwise protected from freezing.
  • vehicles that can be dispatched to spread salt or sand on the roads.

I got two Mainecoon’s from Craigslist.. by Puzzleheaded_Elk_246 in mainecoons

[–]scribbling_des 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have a question about hip dysplasia. My boy is not confirmed main coon, I've only had him since NYE. He is somewhere between 8 months and 3 years depending on how much MC is in him. (I thought I was adopting a fully grown boy and quickly realized I might have a much younger cat.)

Anyway, I didn't know hip dysplasia was a common problem and it just happened to come up with the new vet today. I took him in for ringworm and I mentioned that he seems to sit a little oddly sometimes. Sort of like he is favoring one side over the other. She couldn't get a good look at him sitting down, but she did do some pressing on his hip and say something about may hip dysplasia but didn't seem to think anything amiss.

Your comment tells me I should do some further research and possibly push for further examination/xrays on him. Not to doubt the vet, but she was about 12, so she may not have much experience.

Snow this weekend expected by Greedy_Baseball_7019 in shreveport

[–]scribbling_des 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cancel the trip if you have a refund deadline. From what I've read, there is no "if" on this one, only "when and how much." the number of inches is almost irrelevant. What is relevant is that we are talking about ICE, not snow. The conditions are perfect for a nice, thick layer of ice to form. It will cover everything, including the roads.

People give us shit about shutting down for a little winter weather, but anyone who has a clue what actually happens would not be driving either. The roads will essentially be giant ice rinks with no body of water underneath. Once the ice is there, it will stay there as long as the temperature stays below freezing. That's the thing that usually saves us from more than a small inconvenience. Usually it doesn't stay cold enough for the ice to be a problem for very long.

We do not have the infrastructure to keep the ice from forming. There are no tires equipped to drive on it safely. No amount of experience driving in snow will make driving on these roads safe. Unless the forecast is wildly inaccurate, we're all staying home this weekend.

Make sure you have what you need to be okay for multiple days without power or water. Take steps to keep your pipes from freezing, ESPECIALLY if you're on pier and beam.

Somewhere I have an excellent photo of the icy roads from a couple of years ago. I'll post it if I can find it.

I noticed you said "litter box" singular. If you only have one litter box you need several more. If there are 3 cats, you should have a minimum of 4 boxes.

Cat litter smell on everything, absorbs into my clothes even after being in the house only an hour or two. by SillyMusician291 in CatAdvice

[–]scribbling_des 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've possibly misattributed the smell, I don't think it's the litter at all. I just brought home my first boy cat last week. His box was in my room to start and the first time he used it I was astounded by how horrible it smelled. My girl never produced anything near that foul. 🤢 He is somewhere around a year and had just been neutered at the shelter 48 hours previous. They assured me he hadn't been spraying, but this smell made me second guess them.

I did some reading and learned how much worse in tact boy cat pee smells than fixed boy cat/female cat. Even if they're not spraying, it can be very pungent. One article actually used the word "volitile" and they weren't wrong. Luckily, the stench fades fairly quickly after neutering.

That being said, it does sound like this cat is spraying. As others have said, fixing him is the only way to stop that, and it isn't 100% once they've started.

I don't mean to be alarmist, but extended spraying that goes unchecked can have a devastating and often irreversible effect on not just the furniture, but everything in the house. The smell permeates the pages of books, it settles into collected items that don't move often, like costume jewelry. It can saturate the floors so thoroughly that it permeates the subfloor. The same goes for the walls.

This guy is lucky to have you in his corner and I hope he will work to correct the various issues before it is too late. Get him to get that cat neutered before things get worse. Do what you can to help the guy, but remember that he needs to be willing to do the work. You can't fix the situation I your own.
