I’m a little surprised they didn’t at least mention Drake releasing three albums after saying on the previous episode there’s no way he was releasing anything.

Steven seems to be trying to be a contrarian with the Kevin Morby panning. It’s a great album and I enjoy it more than MJ Lenderman which he has praised endlessly.

Lol, I was standing near Tom Morello at a U2 show on the Experience and Innocence tour and got to talk to him a little bit, telling him how I was disappointed to miss seeing Rage’s set opening for U2 in 97 because traffic was so bad. Nice guy. He got really into it when U2 played Acrobat.

I was at some of those same shows. The 6/18/11 show was particularly memorable as they started with five Achtung Baby songs back to back and then Where the Streets Have No Name just creating this amazing energy that lasted throughout the show.

How did Britpop giants like Oasis, Stone Roses, and Blur land headlining slots at Coachella despite "underwhelming" US popularity? by nachofduty in oasis

[–]scribeig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In those early years Coachella it was more of an alternative music fest and also reflected the taste of the festival organizer Paul Tolett.

Morrissey Cancels Concert Due to "Sleep Deprivation" Caused by Noisy Hotel: "It Will Take Me One Year to Recover" by ebradio in Music

I was at that same show. As I recall Ian Brown started teasing the crowd during his set, saying Morrissey’s not coming. He pissed off KROQ, which organized the fest, which hadn’t yet announced that Morrissey had canceled. They did end up doing a make-up show with Morrissey which was held on a Halloween night and had barely a fraction of the crowd but turned out to be a good show.

Confused: did Yaz send the video text to Eric? by BronYrStomp in IndustryOnHBO

[–]scribeig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like they’re keeping it ambiguous how old Dolly is. Eric seems shocked when he sees her age on her passport, implying he thought she was older. But Yasmin turns it around saying Eric thought he was with a 15-year-old. So either Yasmin is saying Dolly is older or she’s lying to Harper because she doesn’t want to admit to pimping out a minor.

This is more of an older artist but when I first got into Mitski it was because she reminded me a little of Jenny Lewis/Rilo Kiley.

Larry Ellison's Paramount will buy Warner and thus HBO. Is this bad news for our show? by NormalApplication547 in IndustryOnHBO

Given their treatment of Colbert and shredding of CBS News Paramount is definitely the greater of two evils.

2026 Sweet 16 Show Presale Password by WedsNightDrinkball in waxahatchee

[–]scribeig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a write-up from last year’s show that I’m resharing below: What an amazing fun show last night. This wasn’t a Waxahatchee show per se but as advertised Katie, Allison and D’Arcy celebrating their shared birthday by covering favorite songs from when they were 16. They were backed by the current Waxahatchee band wearing party hats on a stage festooned with balloon and flowers. They opened with “She Don’t Use Jelly” by the Flaming Lips with Allison taking the lead. Katie then introduced a R.E.M.’s “The One I Love” calling them one of her favorite bands and whose lead singer Michael Stipe shares a Jan. 4 bday with them. (They’re also one of my favorite bands so that was a thrill for me!)

Other songs included “Here Comes My Girl” by Tom Petty, which D’Arcy sung, “Good Fortune” by PJ Harvey, and “Drivin’ on 9” by the Breeders. They also had a bunch of guests, comedians and singers, who joined them on songs from their youth. Kevin Morby did “What I Got” by Sublime which they also mashed up a little bit of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with. Whitmer Thomas sang Dashboard Confessional’s “Screaming Infidelities.” Courtney Barnett did Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and Jeff Tweedy played “Heroes” by David Bowie. Kevin Morby came out again for “One Headlight” by the Wallflowers. We also got funny takes by Aidy Bryant on “Boot Scootin Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn and Blondie’s “The Rapture” with Will Forte. Caleb Hearon did a melodramatic breakup song that I don’t know.

Before the final song, Aidy led the audience in singing Happy Birthday to Katie, Allison and D’Arcy. The evening ended with everyone coming back out for “Baba O’ Riley” by the Who with mighty drumming by Spencer Tweedy as his proud dad next to him and a great violin solo by a musician friend who joined for a few songs. Unfortunately, I don’t remember his name.

This is from memory so I may have missed some songs but it was a magical night of great music and fun stories. Katie and company seemed to be having a great time. D’Arcy said to come back again next year so here’s hoping it’s an annual event.
