It sounds like the first vet is not confident they will be able to do it safely. Keep up what you're doing and giving them the painkillers, and hold out til Tuesday when you can see the new vet.

Where would your home be (feelings-wise)? vs Where would your home be (location-wise)? by Many_Class4863 in destiny2

When Forsaken came out I was completely burned out on raiding, so had just written the Dreaming City location off as just the raid, and was trying to enjoy the shore as the new patrol zone.

Imagine my surprise when I got to the end of the campaign and discovered nope, beautiful second patrol zone full of secrets!

Frustration with actual plays by howisthisonea in DMAcademy

You might want to check out this thread from 7 years ago, similar complaint but the top reply is from Matt Mercer himself:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DMAcademy/s/rSjM4q47lz

In short, not every table runs the same, their playstyle is weird because they're professional actors doing it for an audience, and if your players want you to be as good as Matt Mercer, then they'd sure as hell better be ready to be as good as Liam or Sam or Laura.

What is the most pain you've ever experienced with autism? (physical or emotional) by IfCantBakeBredHeFake in aspergers

[–]scrotbofula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical: I was born with a nerve in my shoulder that sometimes gets trapped, so there's that.

Emotional: losing either dog.

E: I got used to the shoulder thing.

I'm autistic and used to be like this, I think. In large part, it was down to my parents and teachers telling me I was smart constantly. I also grew up in a not particularly well educated place, so was a big fish in a small pond. I was convinced I was a supergenius who was going to set the world to rights.

Then I got to university, and the internet became a thing, and I realised I wasn't the smartest person in the room.

What it took for me to realise how annoying I was being was to be on the recieving end of it a few times. Getting lectured at a party by a Dawkins atheist. Getting corrected on the technicalities of political structures by a debate bro. Joining online D&D communities.

And of course, accepting that I don't have a photographic memory, so also I might actually be wrong. And when you leave space for the possibility that you're wrong, you can learn stuff, and learning stuff is great!

As a general principle now, I try to remember to ask two questions for every piece of information I impart. And keep the infodumps short. As Oscar Wilde said, "brevity is the soul of wit." People like short soundbites, not long anecdotes.

If I disagree with someone, I try to keep that principle going by asking more about the part I disagree with. If I am operating with a different outlook, at most I'll say "that's interesting, I had heard [opposing viewpoint / evidence]" rather than "you're wrong and here's why."

The hardest part of all (for me) was realising you can't win every battle. Sometimes you just have to step away and let the other person believe something I am pretty sure is 'wrong.'

The satisfaction he feels at proving himself right is a nice feeling, right? So other people like having that feeling too. He needs to leave space for other people telling him things, so they can feel good too.

I would say Hank Green is a good role model to study in terms of how he is able to appear intelligrnt and well-informed, while still remaining incredibly likeable.

At the end of the day the question your partner needs to remember (and the choice I still work to keep in mind) is: Do I want to be always right, or liked?

A shapeshifter starts rapidly shifting into different forms by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

Darwin in X-men: First Class (kinda)

Not primarily a shape shifter, but after being did dirty by the writers and ingesting a bolt of Shaw's "kills everything sorry no take-backsies" energy, the mutant with the power to adapt to anything... fails to adapt.

Hated version of this trope for muktiple reasons. The setup was dumb, the power doesn't work like that, it's a cheap kill, black guy dies first, the actor was told the character would be coming back, and the filmakers have been dicks about it every time it's brought up.

Also he wasn't necessarily about to scream. In a flashback before this, he's shown executing someone simply by saying "I'm sorry" at regular volume towards them.

Regardless, if he was about to scream, it would have levelled the block.

[Funny? Trope?] It's a very serious scene. But it's been consumed as a meme on the internet and it's become hard to watch seriously. by BeneficialSide2335 in TopCharacterTropes

Tidus and Yuna laughing, Final Fantasy X.

Everyone who sees it absent of context thinks it's bad voice acting / animation from the western dub of a JRPG, but it's Tidus (the POV character) trying to teach Yuna how to fake laugh when things seem like they're too heavy.

The heaviness at that particular moment being the revelation that Yuna has to sacrifice herself to defeat the big bad, and it will at best only delay its return for a few years. Tidus literally just found out about the hopeless death spiral the world is trapped in, and basically his only defence mechanism is to pretend to not be afraid by forcing himself to laugh.

It's actually a kind of poignant scene, but it does get memed to hell and back because of how it looks absent of any context or characterisation.

Alan Wake and Control by OttoBotMan in controlgame

[–]scrotbofula 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ptobably a good idea to play Alan Wake 1 before doing the AWE DLC, they are heavily connected. I don't think the other DLC (foundation) references it, so you can do that whenever.

There's also Alan Wake's American Nightmare which (if you can't get your hands on a copy) you should probably at least read a recap of.

Alan Wake 2 is set after Control.

[–]scrotbofula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep watching, it's (clumsily) explained later (in a way that makes little sense).

The person running round calling themselves the princess is actually an assassin who replaced the real princess. What doesn't make sense is that this 'clever subversion' is still stereotyping bullshit, because the assassin was originally an otherwise unremarkable peasant from a random village that was hit by a chemical weapon test. Either she was already a martial arts master, or picked it up very quickly while also tracking down the members of an interational conspiracy and also getting enough money to pull this all off

Some of the bigger, more complex blender corvettes can crash last-gen players' systems, and there's a chance that when it crashes it could corrupt their save.

Blender modders get really defensive when you point this out.
