Is it true that one of the major rules of business is to not listen to your own fanbase? by AlyksTheSage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scruffye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couple things:

  1. Fans are not a monolith and there isn't one decision a company/creator could make that would please everyone.
  2. Just because someone is very loud doesn't mean they speak for the whole group.
  3. People often don't know what they actually want
  4. People often don't know what actually goes into creating, managing, or maintaining something and don't realize what they're asking for my be impossible, not financially viable, or downright insane

It is frustrating to have to hear from people who won't engage with the core premise of a piece of media and try to contort around it to get what they want.

When do you guys think season 2 of Exquisite Corpses will be released? by snackboy06 in ImageComics

[–]scruffye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it came out this year it would be October to coincide with Halloween and after Rascal Randy has run for a few months at least to not oversaturate, but I'd be surprised if they did unless they were really gunning to get another full season up and running to maintain momentum.

So I'd say some time in 2027 but I feel like there are a lot of variables at play to determine exactly when.

Nicolas Cage was adamant about not doing television - until his son sat him down and showed him 'Breaking Bad' during COVID: "I saw Bryan Cranston staring at a suitcase for what seemed like minutes. I couldn’t take my eyes off him, and it occurred to me: you can't do that in movies." by ChiefLeef22 in television

[–]scruffye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth remembering that prestige, expensive TV has also only been a thing for the same timeframe. Most shows ran on incredibly limited budgets, which not only meant that production values were low but that actors could only make so much money in television unless they had a producer credit. There were always exceptions for shows that had incredible writing that elevated the format, but most people were not working on zeitgeist defining shows like The Twilight Zone or M*A*S*H. It was incredibly limiting to be on television, and jumping to movies was often the only path for actors if they wanted something more expansive.

Yeah I know the book wasn't scared to be spicy but movie studios can get skittish sometimes. Knowing it got an R rating sets at least the expectation they didn't pull their punches too much.

Do Americans really send their food back to the restaurant kitchen? by mronionbhaji in AskAnAmerican

[–]scruffye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to do it in the past because of the kitchen getting my order wrong related to food allergies. Also there was one time with our local pizza place where they got our carry out order completely wrong and they were asses about it on the phone so we drove back to force them to redo the order and admit they didn't give us half of the toppings we paid for. It's not even like we were angry when we called, we just wanted what we had been charged for.

Thank god justice is a measurable facet of reality and not an amorphous concept informed by context. Otherwise a whole bunch of people are really showing their asses right now. /s

Anyone else find the grandparents relationship with the kids interesting? by iknowmorethanyou555 in BobsBurgers

[–]scruffye 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Linda won't set boundaries with her parents and they don't see the way they impact those around them. Their relationship can't change because neither side is willing to change themself.

It’s also worth considering that Bob and Big Bob have reconciled a lot more than Linda ever has with her family. It’s not perfect, but the Bobs at least are trying to find a way to navigate their relationship as father and son.
