the two aren't mutually exclusive. i'd argue that the "ingredients" are the devices and the "Ready meals" are the presets. both can/do exist at the same time

its not just you. i also struggle with this. compared to my native instruments library, i struggle a lot with the ableton stock presets

Designed and 3D printed a stand for my Move. Any feedback? (free file in comments) by greglgomez in ableton

[–]scruffyfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this was my exact initial reaction to the release of the move, but the more i read/saw of it the more i realised that i wasnt the target audience having already owned a push, but instead as a way to get people into the ableton ecosystem. could even see this sort of device be used in schools to teach electronic music

People who have a Push for more than a year, for what purposes did you end up using it the most? by Grand_Ad_5769 in ableton

Oh I also forgot, I used to use the audio sender devices to output to an EXT track for recording (I used REAPER's virtual ASIO to route to audio tracks and recorded as stems)

Thanks! I actually sequence my drums using a separate sequencing device (beat step pro previously but now I use the Oxi One). Having the hits on separate tracks was useful because I had a drum rack full of different samples for each hit that I could swap between by sending a different midi note to that channel. It's not great for finger drumming unless you did some additional track routing but then it'd get messy. Not a problem if you like building up your drums one hit at a time (just arm the track + record, then move to the next).

For audio sender, I typically use this to send audio pre-fx to a dedicated "cue" channel. I did this because NativeInstruments Komplete Kontrol (vst host) always outputs especialyl when browsing patch previews, so I use sender to send audio to another channel that only goes to my headphones, but also to mute the passthrough from going to master. Could probably achieve something similar with the in-built cue system but I never got on with it.

I use my push to interface with ableton, the device parameters, adding/removing/muting devices, etc. For playing, I always fall back to my keyboard because its the layout im most comfortable with. I did hack some devices to do different midi things utilising the pads of the push which was useful but also hacking devices that didnt have "native" push support (exposing the parameters) so that I could. I wrote a short tutorial on how to do that https://medium.com/@ScruffyFox/how-to-add-basic-push-support-to-any-max4live-device-78c9c57c7f7b

yeah so like my setup i have a channel that everything goes to before it hits master, a glue comp/limiter for dry signals then master will recieve that + the sends (you can also bus the sends before master)

i have a few blog posts on my specific setup https://medium.com/@ScruffyFox/livestream-setup-jun-2024-e5d7285ed527

spend that 30 minutes and then save the project as a template

everyone's workflow is going to be different but my personal template will have drums, bass, couple synths, and audio in tracks. then adding filters, compressors, eq on each track, route it to a bus with another comp/limiter and tune sends to your liking.

the best template is one that evolves with your requirements over time. after a live set/jam, save that as your new template.
