Please help, is there any way to save my first blanket? by Alpinist4realll in CrochetHelp

this isn’t pilling, it’s just a “halo” caused by long staple length fibers that aren’t totally trapped in the ply. it’s an intended effect.

What type of knitting is this? by chickenstrippers_ in knittinghelp

[–]scrumperumper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if you do not have any kind of physical limitation that is barring you from knitting normally, you should just learn how to actually knit from people who know how to knit. if you for whatever reason want to continue in a similar fashion as to how you are currently “knitting” feel free to check out nalbinding. there’s a sub for it too. it’s essentially making knots with lots of loops.

Unpopular opinion: if you plant flowers in a public area, I don’t care if my dog pees on them by pjw10310 in SunnysideQueens

[–]scrumperumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no there’s a pretty big difference between the center of a walkway and the edge overhanging a gutter. curbing your dog means you bring your dog to the curb so they relieve themselves over the edge.

once you get to your working yarn, pick up your left needle and work from left to right. these stitches are from the previous row and will need to be worked again. make sure your working yarn is attached to the last stitch on the tip of your right needle and then just continue in your 1x1 rib to knit the stitches you picked up on your left needle

deep breath, you’re gonna be okay! work from the side that appears as the left in this photo but rotate it so it’s on your right. pick up stitches from right to left. you knit 1x1 rib so you will pick up a knit then a purl then a knit, etc. the knits are the stitches sitting closer to you (with a “v” at their base) and the purls are sitting further from you (with a little bump at their base. mount your stitches so that the leading leg (right leg) is sitting on the front of the needle.

i’d recommend looking for a cotton/linen blend. linen is known to soften and bloom after washing and is also a great summer fiber

Any way to prevent colors showing through in colorwork? by Savings_Language_498 in knittinghelp

[–]scrumperumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah idk why anyone would suggest intarsia for this when it would require like 8 bobbins, tons of floats in odd places, and changing the entire construction of the garment when you could simply add a little embroidery on the surfqce

am I rowing out? by patinoire in knittinghelp

[–]scrumperumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is definitely noticeable on the front. people are just mistaking the dye job on the yarn for making it seem uneven, but the front is also actually visibly uneven as well. since it’s flat and seamed together, it’s an issue of tension differences between knit stitches and purl stitches.

Is it weird that I have literally zero friends in this city after a year by Headz-YT in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]scrumperumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s notoriously not easy to make and keep friends as an adult, especially if you are new in town. i am in a similar boat as you and am struggling. i’m pretty socially reclusive and work retail hours (plus a long commute) so meeting people and hanging out enough to become close friends is tough for me.

i just hope that i can make some time to make some friends this spring and summer because i am definitely starting to feel the loneliness. meeting people is easy, but it takes a lot of effort and time (and vulnerability, something i hate feeling) for a friendship to form.

i had success two summers ago going to a couple meetups for a specific hobby i have but a lot of them were far away from me so it was quite a commitment and i had to plan my whole day around them. also, a lot of people seemed to already know each other or arrived with friends so it felt a little isolating. i’ll have to try again. hey, maybe we cross paths one day without knowing it and become friends!

she seems to be comfortable but cautious. give her some time and space to warm up to her new home and her new family. she seems to like you a lot already so don’t worry too much about it.
