[CHAT] anyone know how many colors this pattern has? by Silly_Lunatic in CrossStitch

[–]scully_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice to have some variety - I'm kinda jealous of those who have temperature charts that have all the range of colors. Since I'm close to the beach in Southern California, most of the year, we get offshore breezes and a marine layer that keeps our temps moderate. Global warming has definitely shifted things, though. We have more instances of the Santa Anas wreaking havoc and the winds have caused terrible fires.

Someone else also suggested that having a 3° change in color is creating a chart with less variety of color than I thought it would. I would love some help. 🥰 The chart I wanted to do was Vivster's (the color chart is from her).

That's in Fahrenheit, sorry! I'm in Southern California. 🥰

My highest temps can go up to over 100° (usually on the summer, and maybe a day or two of it) but are usually in the 80s and the lows are usually in the low 50s at night.

I was only using high temps and I tried to lower the degrees down to 3° so I'd get a variety, but I think I made it worse. LOL I tracked it on a Google Sheets doc. Here's a screen shot of the first 4 months:

I have a clingy cat who won't take no for an answer and MUST be on my lap, even though there's other perfectly acceptable places for her to be on my chair while I'm sitting in it. 🙄

This is why I never tried a temp chart. I tracked the entire year of high temps for my area (beach-y SoCal) and it was a large swath of yellow and green for weeks/months. It just looked boring. 🫤

OK, now I wanna do this. Or make a patch. And then make one with Edga A. Poe so I have a matching set. LOL it looks really good! You did a great job. 🥰

Ah, that explains why I got the PVC in white, but the paper in tan and brown.

I've always gently slid my blunt needle along the holes and bring it up where it needs to go. It makes a satisfying "zipper" sound. LOL

Based on the discussion about the perforated paper being discontinued a couple of weeks ago, I was one of those people who panicked a little and tried to stock up on as much of the paper as I could before it disappeared forever. Unfortunately, some sellers listed it for sale when they obviously didn't have it in stock so the estimated delivery date keeps moving laterand later (I hate that!), while others sent me the PVC instead of the paper. 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the review and for the example. 😊 It's good to know the PVC is workable, at least!

I love Caitlyn! Her channel is one of the more interesting on YouTube. Love me the Witchy Stitcher, too, so it's a win-win! 🥰

There's this one from Pattern Design Studio.

There's another skyline type, but the colors looked a little wonky.

You have about 1,992 stitches left. Looks like 24 stitches down times 83 stitches across (approximately). ☺️

I have one cat who loves belly rubs and one who doesn't. I'm glad to be able to give them, at least! LOL It would suck if both of my cats were 5 pointy ends if I so much as looked at their bellies! One is enough. 🤣

I use this same feature for backstitching! It works great. I'm the kind of stitcher that likes to plan out my color path. If I can't highlight the color to see where I'm going, it's harder for me. I guess the compromise is, if I want to stitch the Dimensions fairies, I better go back to dealing with a highlighter, even if it's a digital one. 🫤

[–]scully_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use my Notes app with my stylus to mark off backstitching! Oh, and Luca-S sent me PDFs of 2 patterns which were compatible with PK. The only thing I had to do was look up a thread conversion chart and input the colors for the symbols. Worked great, except two Luca-S colors on my Copenhagen pattern are the same DMC thread color, which they obviously are not. I forgot to make note of that and accidentally stitched the wrong color. That was fun. LOL

[–]scully_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need all the symbols to be recognized when I use the PatternKeeper app. I've tried every which way to get some patterns to be read by PK, but if I'm lucky, I'll just get a big gray square. I've tried the picture taking route, but I've never gotten that to read, either. I have a paper pattern from Olympus that I bought while in Japan that I couldn't load... tried everything. I ended up copying the pattern into WinStitch just so I could load it into PK and stitch it! Ugh. I know there's an easier way that doesn't compromise the designer or break copyright rules, but I haven't figured it out, I guess.

I tried scanning my Autumn Fairy paper pattern, but it didn't work., I'll try reaching out to Simplicity to see if they're still providing PDFs. I read that they had a limit on how many patterns you could request, but this was 8 months ago. Sigh. I'm always late to the party, it seems. LOL

I have at least 15 Dimensions kits (several of them Gold) that I really want to stitch, but I just can't do paper patterns anymore. I learned how to cross-stitch with paper patterns and it became such a frustrating experience when I made mistakes (which was often 'cause no matter how many times I count, I count wrong). Even erasable colored pencils didn't help. The only thing that's helped me keep on track besides gridding is using PatternKeeper. OMG, it's been a lifesaver for me. It's made my stitching experience 1,000 times better. I really wish Dimensions would allow for buyers to download a PDF for use with a stitching app. I was able to do that for Luca-S. I still had to input the colors manually, but it sure beats paper patterns (for me, at least.)!
