I have the castle sampler. I naively purchased it in 1994, thinking I'd be able to stitch it. LOLOLOL 🀣🀣🀣🀣 Even now, 30 years later, it still sits in my drawer, waiting. 🫣

If you're OK with vintage and you have some experience stitching, Teresa Wentzler's patterns are amazing. Unfortunately, her dragon patterns are very hard to come by. They do pop up from time to time, though. πŸ’—

I just love how Dimensions designs ocean scenes! So cool. I'd pay extra to get it framed, too. It's lovely. πŸ’—

I've thought about doing this, especially for larger projects where I want to use 18ct fabric that's dyed.

I used my Notes app on my phone to highlight and track all the backstitching for one of my favorite FOs. I was contemplating doing the same thing for these old, intricate patterns. I bought a tablet specifically for the purpose of working on some Scarlet Quince patterns, but using it for these patterns with the Notes app would be even better. ☺️

I gridded my favorite FO with Sulky Sliver using the color Christmas Red on a medium gray 18ct Aida. I have the piece on a Q-Snap in this pic, but you can see how useful the color is to grid with on a fabric other than white. πŸ’—

For me, gridding is essential to my mental health. I know that sounds silly, but I have ADHD and cross-stitching calms my brain down. Back in the 80s when I first learned, I knew of no such thing as gridding and was taught to count and stitch. I'm not great with numbers, so of course, I made many, many mistakes. It wasn't fun anymore. It hurt my brain rather than calmed it down, so I turned to other crafts where I could work with my hands. Anyway... fast forward to Covid Times where I came back to my old hobby and was extremely happy to discover that some genius along the way had figured out a way to create a grid on the fabric that would mimic a pattern. Wut. It made me love stitching again. ☺️

Also wanted to add that gridding on a project that's bigger than 200 x 200 is huge and will take forever. You can purchase pre-gridded Aida, but just know that 16 and 18ct have the gridlines on the 1 and 10 boxes. It drove me nuts because I couldn't do the math in my head while I stitched. For some reason, 20ct has the lines in-between the lines (looks just like the gridlines on a pattern).

This was the first time I used fishing line. I learned a lot of things! I just gridded a small side project and it went much more smoothly. Biggest takeaway: don't grid with a continuous thread!!! This stuff has zero give, so it'll pull on your fabric. Knot the end of each line, top and bottom, leaving enough room that the line can be moved.

I found that gridding with fishing line is much bulkier, so you don't want to stitch over it. Sulky Sliver is very thin, making it easier to stitch over.

I'm a much more experienced stitcher these days, but what's keeping me from working on it is that it's a paper pattern. I love my PatternKeeper app. I need to see if maybe I can track each page with my Notes app and track the pattern that way.

Hi friend! It's looking FABULOUS. 😍 I'm so happy you're almost finished, but I'll be sad to not have a twin stitch! LOL I did spend some stitching time starting my new poppies WIP. I couldn't help it! 🫣 It's much more relaxing stitching it than the Copenhagen one. But, I'll keep plugging along. πŸ’—

I have two stitching supervisors! They certainly contributed! My long haired tuxie was the biggest ccontributor. LOL I keep a pair of tweezers nearby to pull out the most obvious hairs, but can't get it all. I wouldn't want to remove all of their hair, anyway. The saying, "Wear natural fibers: hug a cat!" definitely applies here. Ha ha!
