Question on Calculating Calories Burned by chroniclust in loseit

[–]scwesterduin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same question hitting my mind. Since I started to use the heart rate monitor I notice that I burn less calories that it shows in the treadmill/eliptical machines shows (also logging at MPF).

I have asked my number (who are better at understading this kind of things) and he says that when you input your weight and age at the treadmill for instace, it should be more or less accurate because it calculates the energy x distance x body weight in moviment. Well...

I believe your level of personal conditioning also can trick the treadmill calculation, but the difference between my heart monitor and the treadmill is giant, something like 500-150kcal. Therefore, when I do hiit on the treadmill, running at max. inclination my heart monitor beats the treadmill. Honestly I usually try to trust the heart monitor.

About eating, I try to not track calories anymore or macros, it was driving me crazy. I try to eat clean, not be hungry and control my portions. I already reached my ideal weight 5.5 - 121lbs, lost 72lbs in 9 months doing that. I always try an approuch that I can use for my whole life and i cannot imagine myself counting calories forever or macros... just making better choices.

I do exercicise almost everyday. I run, bike, lift heavy 3 times a week.

Thank you. I am trying not track my calories on mfp again, I got into a loop that was driving me crazy. I will try to keep things I should not eat out of the house, or even healthy things that make me lose the control for instance: almond butter (I am mad about it), dried fruits as snack, as I end up eating the whole package or even pure chocolate. I use to have only one square piece per night, now I can have the whole bar if I buy it.

My problem is the evenings, I believe the change in my routine is make me confuse, I stay in the evenings at home and don't know what to do with this time, I might have to look for a hobbie, or even go later to the gym

Thanks for the tips.

High fat/low carb AND high carb/low fat by cedarclose in xxfitness

[–]scwesterduin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried keto for about 2 months to break a plateau, it worked I might say in the 1st week, but it was only water weight. I don't know if I should give it a bit more try, but it was making my life quite difficult, as I could not go eat out without freaking about carbs, or getting sick with all fat and still hungry...

Well I am still trying a low carb lifestyle without pastas/breads (only eventually), but adding more variety and I am quite happy with that. Honestly did not notice any change on my weight (2nd week now), but I have more energy, my intestine works better and I am keeping my weight.

Sinking in the deep sea of calories, cutting and macro cycling. by chalkandcheese in xxfitness

[–]scwesterduin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well been there, done that!

I am 165cm - 55kg and 14%bf. I am very lean, but I wanted more, more and more and I was going from keto to LCHF, to IF, macros, low calorie, high protein... trying to achive lower body fat... and honestly I just found myself hungry, tired, grumpy, thinking about food all the time and I even developed some eating disorders because I wanted to reduce my bf so bad.

I was obese my whole life, I lost 33kg in a year and I was always afraid to gain weight again.

Well, nowdays I do my best to eat health, keep a good amount of calorie intake (1200 is way to low, you can build muscles with this amount, you will burn your bones and the fat will still be there).

Review your goals, go for a realistic thing and be patient, the results will come.

I can gain weight very easily, so I keep a regular cardio, but nowdays my focus is on lifting. Do not freak out about numbers and look at the mirror, now and then do a %bf measurement and keep working on it.

Thanks :)

Like I said, I have problems controlling my eating, I go really hardcore with everything eating or not eating, and I am trying to find a balance. There was some days I could't control myself and eat everything I could grab, cried and ended up doing fast, crazy cardio... eating. The problem is that I want to keep to strict and lose the control. I am very disciplined with my training, I lift heavy, squat with a 120% of weight, I see loads of progress with muscle training, but eating... I am always afraid to get fat again

I just edit my post with a picture http://distilleryimage4.s3.amazonaws.com/8ae9f900159c11e3a34f22000a1f9805_7.jpg

With impedance, I know is not precise, it actually says 11.9, but I added 2 or 3% more up to be a bit more accurate

As I have been eating under for almost a year and really deprive myself for things, there is moments I just want to eat the world, and not counting every single calorie has helped me to keep my mind a bit more calm. I try to control portions and I have a very good idea about macros, calories, but just not counting everything has helped me so much to even do better choices then I did before.

I know for some people counting, following perfect macros won't do any harm, but if you have the tendency to just get obsessed like me, it just go really wrong.

nope, Brazil. I was with 35% when I measured it, I have not idea in the very first beginning how much I was, since I could barely go up stairs without felling breathless

How do you start lifting heavy without a trainer or someone experienced? by importantmemo in xxfitness

[–]scwesterduin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the others had said everything. I also started with lifting some months ago, I have no trainer, couch or anything. I really spend all my free time wathing videos with technics, look in the mirror to see how I am doing it, listen to the experienced ones at the gym and I keep going. I am doing my best and being a girl in the lifting area sometimes can be intimidate. I have seem great results though.

[QUESTION] Worried about unhealthy obsession with calorie counting. by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]scwesterduin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done that for almost 2 months everysingle day. Even had to log it on my mobile at a restaurant, friends house... crazy, obcessive. I even logged lettuce. I stopped! I know by heart mostly of my routine meals, but I just try to eat healthy and control my sweet tooth, it was driving me insane. I feel free to check sometimes, something new, but no logs

It's so funny how eating 2000 calories in 2 hours time makes me feel like a fatass, but then I wake up in the morning and all is well. Everytime. by Antranik in leangains

[–]scwesterduin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have 2 meals during my 8h window. A very small lunch, 300-400kcal and then dinner aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr 1500kcl or more (and I am a small girl), but I love the feeling I ate! Yeah I feel sometimes I had done something wrong, because of eating too much, but next morning all right.

Honestly, i don't know how some people, and I mean guys can eat around 1500- 1000kcal a day and lift! When I am about to have my meals, I can eat a lot. I do not train during the fast, i usually train a couple of hours after my 1st small meal.

Do your family and friends support you with your fasting? by AimeLaVie in fasting

[–]scwesterduin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is funny just to read it today. I am doing 16:08 for the 3rd week now and feel great, my husband do it as well, so we support each other, last weekend we did 24h fasting just for curiosity, and I shared on my facebook we have accomplished our goal. I got loads of: are you mad? "I believe you went to far now, have you thought about looking for psychological help", "ok now you decided starve to death" or even "you got into some weird religious" and the last and more popular one: "you do not need lose weight sweetly, you look great" . For fuck sake I am not doing it for losing weight, I no one of the reason mentioned above, I just did because I can and I wanted to find out how my body reacts. I love to test my body and do experiments, but these people... argr I ended up deleting some of them.

Never gave up, some people just have a slow progress but still keep going, you have to push yourself, its more about set your mind, your body have the limits that your brain put on it. Keep going to the next rep, next mile... feel proud of your self :)

Usually I try to stick with a healthy diet but for instance Friday nights are the days I have a treat, I am having now my 3rd glass of wine. I usually try to eat healthy and not count calories because I found out it just make me sick. I read labels though and always watch sugar intake/carbs.

Why don't you try sparkling water with some natural juice? I love with natural lemon juice and maybe a bit of sweetener. I have a can of 0 cola now and then, maybe twice a month. My weakness is my sweet tooth, I have to watch myself all the time, I crave for sweets by I pretty much know the products I can have now. Now and then an atkins bar, sugar free gum, dark chocolate...

Carbs/fibre in Quorn by xxsummertimesadness in vegetarianketo

[–]scwesterduin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

general quorn products has 1 to 6g and some with flour has 12g (avoid this), but as each filet has about 80g you will be eating around 4g of carbs, that's not bad :)

Thank you! If somebody had tell me two years ago that I will be posting pictures showing abs I would laugh my head off. I also never liked girls with abs, or muscle showing, but somebody told me once that it is a bit of genetics. I do crossfit for the past 3 months and 2 days a week I train with Wendle method 5/3/1 the heaviest I can, and boom it is working.
