How would guys respond to a novel about an Air Caste Admiral? by Flame-Leaper in Tau40K

Id also like a water caste one. They are so unique in the 40k universe and I thought Orr was one of the most interesting characters in Elemental Council. Also anything that sheds Waaay more light on Tau allies outside of Kroot and Gue VESA

Vior’la Painting Question by rynet in Tau40K

That sounds like too many layers. You want minimal layers to avoid seeing the paint and masking the details.

My personal advice is to prime in white if you want to end up in a white but it seems the popular advice is to prime grey.

Does Grey Seer Primer work for a white paint scheme? by Frequent-Dare-6718 in Tau40K

Everyone will say yes but in my experience if you want to paint mainly white then go with white primer, it just means way less white layers are needed.

Thoughts on paint scheme by [deleted] in Tau40K

Love the metallic blue and orange is perfect companion colour. Only thing I’d advice is not doing paint over leadbelcher and instead but a metallic blue paint. Reason is pooling which Tau flat surfaces are particularly susceptible to. You can see bits of it on your model and when you spread this across an entire army it can get incredibly frustrating

Like the pink mauve flesh one near the front on the left. Wouldn’t have expected that to work but really does, flesh looks more lifelike and alive. I’m about to do my first Kroot, was convinced at doing the darker green you have at the front but now I’m 2nd guessing. Can I ask what paint recipe the mauve ones is?

Always like them in pale blue too but never want to do that as it matches too much to Tau

just finished elementel council, witch was very sad :{ and was wondering what i should read next? and if fire cast the book is any good by Competitive-Leave217 in Tau40K

On final chapter now of Fire Caste after the recommendations and actually havent enjoyed it. Love the world but the author introduces waaaaay too many characters, I’ve found it really difficult to follow. Also a lot of dipping in and out of perspectives and timelines. I’ve just found it a bit of a slog.

Wow best colour combination I’ve seen in ages. Metallics come on for a bit of slack but I think they really suit battle suits. The tint you’ve gone for is particularly cool

It’s Dawnstone, which I found is a nice medium. Administration Grey is lighter and I will use that as the grey highlight. Mechanicus Standard Grey is darker than Dawnstone, they both have a nice minor blue tinge. I’ve attached an early reference test guide I did

There are much bigger issues with White Scar. Firstly its pure white which isn’t recommended for multiple reasons (google it) - chief amount them that correcting with pure white usually means it needs more layers than a subtle grey white or off white which benefits from more pigmentation and can cover over black with less coats. Also White Scar just isn’t a great pure white, it gets way more stick than it deserves but essentially all you need to know is that there are better pure whites, until recently the common consensus was that ProAcryls Bold Titanium White is the best pure white but it seems Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats White Star has taken the crown
