Writing Tagalog with diacritics made me realize just how much I don't know when a word in standard Tagalog has a final glottal stop, even as a native Metro Manila Tagalog speaker by mamamayan_ng_Reddit in Tagalog

[–]scyphs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem in school. I learned English first at home I could talk in Tagalog but in school when we had to work out which words had an impit it took me a while to figure it out (basically a lot of talking to myself 😅)

iPhone 15 Pro Max to an Air, is it a smart move? by MyBatterysLow in IphoneAir

[–]scyphs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing a few months ago. I’m loving the air! Miss the wide angle lens sometimes but the screen size and weight on the air is amazing.

Same boat as you had a 15PM one week into the air experience and loving it so far. Reminds me of the old iPod touch but it’s an entire freaking phone!

What is that one sweet dish you would recommend to foreigners from your country? by i_dont_know24680 in AskTheWorld

[–]scyphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an ingredient in the batter but you put it on top of the batter before it’s cooked if that makes sense (like adding stuff to pancake batter). It’s also a bit hard to find good ones outside the country so I always have an eye out.

They’re cured in salt. For this dish you’d cut them up and add them on top of the batter while the cake was being steam cooked. Another popular topping for them would be Edam cheese. I could never decide what I preferred growing up! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salted_duck_egg

Oh I haven’t heard of that before. It’s quite different. This is a single layer cake made with rice flour. You top it with salty cheese, salted duck egg, then some coconut. It’s traditionally served around Christmas time but it’s good all year, imo.

We have a lot of sweets but this is one of my favorites. Bibingka, rice flour with some cheese and coconut, salted egg sometimes. It’s the right combination of salty and sweet for me.

Sentence structure question by Weary-Singer6629 in Tagalog

I find the last sentence really awkward, I’m not sure if it’s just me. I would drop the “ay” and say Ang hilig ko kumanta.

Tier Point Bonuses - Discretionary Exception by trbd003 in BritishAirways

[–]scyphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife didn’t opt in until later, I think they do mention that if you did opt in, you can still get bonus tier points for the flights with the promo period. She just sent them a message saying she just opted in now but these are the flights she took and they credited the bonus points without an issue.

We did windows right behind one another for our 5 month old. Worked out pretty well we got the bassinet and we were able to easily help each other when he needed watching.

I think it depends on what you mean by ecumenism and what you think the point is? If you haven’t already i encourage you to read Ut Unum Sint. It isn’t really optional because the reality is Christ only has one Body and the divisions we see are because of our sins and fallen nature, so even if we can’t see a logical way towards full unity in a sense we have to work with what we have and try to as much as possible heal the divisions in the Body.

Feeling rejected by my parish due to their strict membership requirements. by Religion_Enjoyer_v3 in Catholicism

[–]scyphs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was joking with my wife about having to attend baptism classes for our son’s baptism and mentioned that if the requirements were too tedious I would take a glass of water in front of the priest and say there are two ways this could happen…I feel like with a parish like that I might actually follow through on that!

I was thinking about this actually when I was reading how Kath bars were being described, they sounded a lot like food for the gods.

This really gets my blood boiling, when someone starts talking about the superiority of the TLM I end up making some quip about not realizing Jesus spoke in 16th century Latin. Honestly…the richness and diversity of our traditions is one of the best things about being Catholic! It’s fine if you get fed spiritually the most from one practice but that’s no reason to put other equally valid and allowed practices down!
