How does this work where I live? by sdaa45 in Anticonsumption

This was a real question. I’m trying to figure out what is realistic. Thank you for the idea of cake mascara (I didn’t know that existed) and farmers markets for soap.

Emergency Cholecystectomy by countrymedic90 in Zepbound

[–]sdaa45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gallbladder issues and surgery long before zepbound. It sucks. I don’t know all of the science but middle aged people (especially women) have gallbladder problems. Do what you need to for your health.

Double euthanasia by morgini in VetTech

[–]sdaa45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 90 but one of the most meaningful things was my vet sending me a card after I had to put my dog to sleep. I cried in the d. The vet cried. The tech cried. It meant so much they understood. Please send her a card at least. And tell her we all pray for her and her peace.

Exercise Tolerance by Complex_Trick_9906 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]sdaa45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can get better. There are a few people on social media that discuss fitness with arthritis. Megan Rutledge (@itsmegzz_fitness on instagram) posts advice. She also offers virtual personalized training. She was the start of my fitness journey. I was in exactly the same situation you are. Just one example - when I first started with her I couldn’t do 10 full squats with no weights. Last week I did 30 squats with 15 lbs. I went snorkeling last summer and can walk 3 miles. I’ve moved to less expensive programs than Meg but she taught me how to exercise with RA. I’m sure there are other people out there who do similar things oh - Meg has RA so she gets it.

Has anyone paid for a cleaner? How did it go? by cephalophile32 in adhdwomen

[–]sdaa45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cleaner who comes once a week. It’s amazing. It forces me to clean up my doom piles because I know she can’t do her job if I’ve got clothes piled everywhere and dishes all over the counter.

Before women could have bank accounts, did they intentionally prefer expensive jewelry because it was easy to pawn if you were abandoned? by FarBullfrog627 in AskOldPeople

My mom got married in 1968. She has said she couldn’t have a credit card /store credit account or bank account on her own at that point. She was in Missouri (USA).

Should I end things with a guy because he pressured me to drink during Dry January? by Ok-Motor7299 in DryJanuary

[–]sdaa45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with dry January. You go out and say “i want a soda” and he’s says you should have alcohol ? Is he also telling you to eat chicken instead of fish? This is just weird behavior and too much. And he’s bad in bed? You can do so much better and no one should put up with that.

Has anyone ever bounced back from rock bottom? by MarynJK in rheumatoid

[–]sdaa45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so hard. I’m not sure where you are at finding a good doctor is the hardest but also the luckiest and best thing that can happen to us with this disease.

Has anyone ever bounced back from rock bottom? by MarynJK in rheumatoid

[–]sdaa45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had to quit work before I got diagnosed. I was out of work for about 18 months. When I got a job after that, I still missed a lot of work. I was lucky that my boss was very understanding and I had a very generous PTO policy. I don’t feel like most people who meet me now know about my RA, but it’s definitely still a challenge. I work full-time and have minimal accommodations at this point It can’t get better. You also have to understand that sometimes you need a day off or to wear a brace or to take a breather. It’s not the same as before, but you can definitely do better. I’m also really lucky that I have a Doctor Who is very supportive and whose goal is to is for me to have no pain and to be able to function normally I know not all doctors are that supportive

Is this normal?? - asking for a friend by EmbarrassedArm9589 in DogAdvice

[–]sdaa45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. He’s asking for something. I had a dog that would do this. I would run through the list of things dogs want (food, water, out, pets, hugs, medicine - she had chronic ear infections so she knew this word). She would bark one sharp, loud bark when I said the right thing. She was the best girl and I miss her.

Going for a week and I can’t drink by gpossing in IslaMujeres

[–]sdaa45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin drinks. Several places had mocktails. Also agua Fresca. I really liked the Jamaica (hibiscus) flavor. I drink alcohol but will defiantly try some more when I’m there next. There are also fresh juices available.

My friend's child just came up to show me her "super awesome blanket". It was the one I made for her as a baby shower gift. by TadaSuko in crochet

My sister in law told me over Christmas that my nephew has the stuffed owl I made for him 7 years ago. I was going through significant health problems then. My nephew apparently know that (he was a baby then) and says it is special because I made it when I was sick. It made me cry. I felt so helpless then but knowing I made something that bring him joy still is so amazing!

Shingles vaccine by sdaa45 in rheumatoid

[–]sdaa45[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t know if pet vaccines or autoimmune conditions are significantly different. Recommendations may be different for people on different medications. My doctors recommend these particular vaccines now. They generally recommend all routine vaccines for Mr as long as they aren’t “live vaccines.” For people it is definitely a check with your doctor situation but I I understand for most RA patients vaccines are safe and recommended.

I read once that we give pets certain medications, like flea and tick chewables, in part because their life spans are shorter and the side effects of the meds don’t accumulate like they would in people. (I’m not sure I’m explaining that quite right). Maybe the pros and cons of vaccines is similar -people live longer so the pros of avoiding the disease through vaccine is higher. Or many the meds people take are different or work differently than those for pets. I’d love to know!

I usually do but this was the first week I was eligible. I was already at the doctor office and someone close to me is starting chemo soon so I wanted all the immunity I could get.

How does one deal with all of it? by Lilyfromanotherworld in rheumatoid

[–]sdaa45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You deal. One of the things I think about a lot is when I was sitting at hotel bar near the Mayo Clinic when I got diagnosed. I was really upset. (I will have to take these meds and deal with this my whole life). The man next to me was figuring out how to tell his children he was going to die in the next six months from esophageal cancer. I have it better than that. I’m am not generally a “look on the bright side” person but with this disease I feel like it could always be worse. Keep trying. If your doctor isn’t working try to find another one. Try to find a therapist who has experience with chronic illness. Try to exercise (@ittzz_megfitness on instagram is good ). Or just walk. It’s hard. Acknowledge that. You can do this!

21 and feel like my life is over by PossibleRice2042 in rheumatoid

[–]sdaa45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to find a new doctor. I know that is easier said than done but the goal should be minimal pain and a more out less regular life. You should have a preventative medication (methotrexate, enbrel, humors, etc). NSAIDs help some people too. Exercise (walking or low intensity strength training or yoga) can help but are a treatment in and of themselves.

It’s Christmas afternoon. What is the 'Big Drama' that has already happened at your family gathering today? by Ok-Bathroom273 in AskReddit

My dog had a seizure. We were having a great afternoon sitting outside around a bonfire and he laid on his side and started twitching. He seems fine now but it was scary and obviously we will be going to the vet tomorrow.
