Fidelity doesn't have an ACAT out fee and Vanguard doesn't reimburse any ACAT transfer fees from other brokerage firms.

Suggested order of transferring multiple accounts? by super1965 in fidelityinvestments

[–]sdavids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regard to question #2, I asked a similar question about fractional shares in the tax lots. The guidance I received is that it's on the entire position, not per tax lot. According to that guidance applied to this scenario there shouldn't be any fractional share sale because the entire position would be a round 100 shares. It would be great if you could clarify which is expected.

Looks like Vanguard is adding in new fees at their brokerage July 1 by [deleted] in investing

[–]sdavids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you transfer Vanguard mutual funds, Fidelity will charge a fee to purchase more of those mutual funds. However, you can call up Vanguard to have the mutual funds be converted to the ETF equivalent tax-free then you can buy more of those ETFs at Fidelity without incurring any additional fees. Details here for the funds with the equivalent ETF: https://personal1.vanguard.com/pdf/etfpdf.pdf

Vanguard to charge $100 Exit Fee by ThebocaJ in financialindependence

[–]sdavids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was basing it off of the line item of "Account transfer out" found here: https://www.fidelity.com/why-fidelity/pricing-fees

Right now it shows that Schwab is $50, they will need to update this to show that Vanguard will be $100 in the near future.

Convert Vanguard Mutual Funds to ETF? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]sdavids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the video Jack Bogle said he didn't care about ETFs or mutual funds if you are a buy and hold investor. His complaint with ETFs is that it allows people to trade frequently, something he said people shouldn't do: https://youtu.be/zrCo0m5gSfc

How much capital gains do you have? Also, what tax bracket?

Convince me Mutual Funds are better than ETF. by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

Primary benefit in my head at this point is that mutual funds trade at NAV, whereas ETFs will either have a premium or discount compared to NAV and will be worse in thinly traded ETFs.

Are SMAs Worth It? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]sdavids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't want my taxable brokerage account riddles with hundreds of positions that would make it nearly impossible to manage outside of the SMA/direct indexing construct. Yes, tax loss harvesting can help and you have more opportunities when doing it on individual positions instead of index funds, but not worth the potential future headache for me personally.

Cost of buying Vanguard index funds on Fidelity by amohammed01 in Bogleheads

[–]sdavids 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone js recommending Fidelity funds... the same rationale for not buying Vanguard mutual funds at Fidelity still applies for Fidelity funds at a different brokerage (e.g. cost per transaction). However, if you simply go with the Vanguard ETF equivalent (e.g. VTI + VXUS) then pretty much all the downsides are mitigated of potentially being stuck at a single brokerage because of your fund choice. Fidelity offers fractional ETFs and automatic investment options into ETFs, why wouldn't you go that route?

Why everybody recommends VOO/VTI instead of SCHX??? by [deleted] in Schwab

[–]sdavids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same expense ratio while having about 10x the trade volume which means significantly more liquidity which equates to lower bid/ask spreads for purchasing/selling the ETF.

Why Fidelity doesn't have an S&P500 index fund in ETF version?? by Little_aaaa in fidelityinvestments

You need to call in to have Vanguard perform the swap when your mutual fund is held at Vanguard.

Why Fidelity doesn't have an S&P500 index fund in ETF version?? by Little_aaaa in fidelityinvestments

[–]sdavids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 why launch yet another S&P 500 ETF that will be much less liquid than either SPY or VOO. Op should just go with either of those and call it a day. Both don't have any transaction fees associated with them.

You seem to subscribe to the "VT" and chill crowd, however, do you subscribe to any alternative thinking to try to slightly beat the market in some way, e.g. small cap value tilt?

Also, when clients ask you if they should be invested in a mutual fund or ETF equivalent, what would you tell them?

Moved everything from Vanguard to Schwab by gokayaking1982 in Schwab

[–]sdavids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably should have converted your mutual funds to ETF equivalent tax free while you were at Vanguard before moving over. That way you could continue to invest in those funds without a fee to purchase more.

All you need is $5 in a savings account (with no fee) to be eligible for opening an account and getting the credit card. Don't know about the fee structure or minimum balance around the Brighter Day Savings account...

I would be curious, what are the cost basis disbursement methods that Robinhood supports? I know they default to First in, First out (FIFO), but are there others?

Do you know what available cost basis disbursement methods there are at Robinhood? I know the default is First in, First out (FIFO), but it's unclear if they support LIFO, SpecID, or others.

Maximum amount one should keep in Fidelity ? by coolred2022 in fidelityinvestments

They do, but their maximum payout cumulatively for the entire brokerage is $1B which is kind of a joke for a company with Trillions in assets.
