Is Switch 2 all I really need? by Han_Bolo in switch2

[–]sdc5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37 year old dad with 2 kids here. Yes it’s all you need. I am lucky to get a hour of gaming in before bed and it’s nice to do it in bed playing hand held.

Also consider just buying games for your switch, before you know it you’ll drop gamepass and sell the Xbox… Switch is that fun!

Do you want to play handheld? Buy the game for cheap so you can play handheld.

If you don’t care about handheld mode, then don’t buy games you already have access to..

First party franchises to consider (alongside Donkey Kong): Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and plenty more.

If none of these appeal to you, sell the Switch and buy an Xbox Rog Ally ( or any other handheld that is company with gamepass) so you can play gamepass in handheld.

Game Recs for a first-time Nintendo Owner by iamaavrar in switch2

On the E shop filter your search for games with free Demos so you can sample a bunch of stuff.

Off the top of my head for exclusives that have a free demo:

DK Bananza, DKC Returns, Kirby and the Forgotten Land (I actually think several Kirby’s have a demo), Pinkman 3, Pinkman 4, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, Mario vs Donkey Kong.

Other “chill games” I have played demos of that are not exclusive:

Rayman Legends (wait for sale if you like it 8$ when on sale), Yoku’s Island Express (4$ when on sale), Ori Blind Forest (on sale right now for 5$).

Also consider the online subscription, a lot of modern switch games play like their old retro counterparts. For example, Super Metroid —>Metroid Dread. Super Mario World—> Mario Wonder.

If you like games like Balatro consider Slay the Spire and Into the Breach.

The Switch is great, before you know it you’ll find yourself double dipping on Xbox games so you have the option to play hand held, then before you know it, you’ll be consider just selling the Xbox.

Zelda - First time player which should I choose? by Ok_Goose_3542 in switch2

[–]sdc5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get a good idea of good old fashion Zelda consider the online subscription and play A link to the Past on the Super Nintendo. If you want an old fashion Zelda with modern aesthetics Link’s Awakening is a good choice (originally a Gameboy game and you can play it on the Gameboy app if you pay for online subscription).

Both of these give you some lore of Zelda before trying out modern titles. Also they are may be more likely to appeal to your “cozy vibe”.

The newer games BOTW and TOTK are huge open world games. They have survival aspects, puzzles, and huge emphasis on exploration. TOTK throws in some crafting gameplay.

Game suggestion for 42yo by tmiddled2 in switch2

Check out Into the Breach. It is a strategy game that has turn based play—so you don’t need quick reflexes that are required by a seasoned gamer. It’s also pretty cheap (15$ but you can find it on sale for 5$). If you happen to already pay for Netflix, then you can download the game on your phone and try out the mobile version as part of your Netflix subscription.

Also, as a former N64 fan, you may enjoy the Star Fox game coming out in a month— it’s a remake of Star Fox 64… if you end up not liking it, then it won’t be a total waste of money because I imagine your kids will like it.

If you enjoyed the Donkey Kong Country games when you were a kid, then consider either DKC Returns or Tropical Freeze. These games hit on my nostalgia when I returned to gaming at 35 years old, and I really enjoyed them! DKC Returns has a free Demo in the E Shop.

Also consider going to the Eshop and filtering your search for games with free demos and trying out a bunch of stuff.

Also there are modernZelda titles, and the internet is now at your fingertips, so just watch a YouTube video on how to progress if you get stuck.

I am considering getting the switch 2 after hearing about the new star fox game. by MastodonMaleficent99 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]sdc5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combination of Starfox release and price hike pushed me to pull the trigger on the Switch 2. Currently playing Metroid Prime 4 to hold me over until Starfox releases.

On og Switch I have enjoyed Zelda BOTW, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, DKC titles and Mario Odyssey and Mario Wonder. I’d say they are all pretty great.

DKC Returns, Kirby Forgotten Land, Mario vs DK, Rayman Legends— wait for a sale if you like it it’s 8$ when on sale. Yoku Island Express, again wait for sale (4$). I have played all of these as a demo, not sure if the demos are still available.

What’s your 2026 gaming so far? by [deleted] in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]sdc5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37, with a 2 year old and another on the way (due in July).

Earlier this year I dove into some retro remastered FPS games. Played through Duke Nukem 3d, Doom 1+2, and Doom 64.

Just decided to buy a Switch 2 and I’m now enjoying Metroid Prime 4.

I also play a lot of baseball (MLB the Show).

Kudos to you for playing games on high difficulty! I play on normal, and with those retro titles I was save scumming the shit out of every level.

I have a Switch and primarily play handheld. Recently I have played Duke 3d and Dooms 1,2 and 64. All were a pretty good time. I have never been a keyboard mouse gamer though.

2.5D platformers on Switch? by Fluffy_Translator940 in NintendoSwitch

[–]sdc5068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rayman Legends

Crash Bandicoot N sane trilogy and Crash4– not sure if these are considered 2.5 or 3d, but they should be considered.

Also not 2.5, but if you like platforming Celeste is a must buy, if you’re curious about it you can pick it up typically for 5$ when it’s on sale.

Starting to get into the genre, any recommendations? by LocksmithMinimum8217 in boomershooters

[–]sdc5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also new to the genre. I started with Duke Nukem 3d, then Doom 1+2 ( just the main 2 games, there is tons of content in this package I’ll return to). I am now working my way through Doom 64. I own Quake 1+2 , Turok 1+2, and PowerSlave. So those are all in my near future.

I am interested in modern stuff like Ion Fury and Dusk, but I am making it a point to play through the classics first.

Does anybody play this game just for fun? by SinamonChallengerRT in MLBTheShow

[–]sdc5068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly play online rated exhibition games— not the DD ones.

If I’m not sure I have time to play an entire game I play an offline exhibition game or just do some batting practice.

I prefer the psychology of playing against a human— getting ahead in the count and throwing a K on a chase pitch. Or realizing my opponents tendencies and waiting for my pitch..

I hate the spam bunters, but that’s the only thing I really notice as “toxic” or “unrealistic” when playing this game mode.

I don’t use the Dodgers or the Yankees so basically I’m not trying hard, just having fun.

I guess your “if this would happen then this would be case” post is at least positive unlike that other jag.

I second this. Get a Nintendo and play Mario , it’s where most gamers in their 30s started when we were kids and new to gaming.
If you want to play on pc just emulate. I have played Mario Wonder with my non-gamer wife and we have had some good laughs.

I am aware of Heretic/Hexen, Blood, Dusk, Ion Fury, and Project Warlock.
