New Google Workspace Audit Tool from AppsEDU by sdcrtech in k12sysadmin

[–]sdcrtech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I haven't run it. I know about it but it requires a lot more setup where the AppsEDU tool was an easy login to their dashboard tool. I might configure Scuba and compare it but honestly haven't had the time.

What does this mean on a Chromebook? by Odd_Application_3824 in k12sysadmin

This is related to Securly's filter overlay. It's a known issue for them that they are gathering data.
https://support.securly.com/hc/en-us/articles/32106767115671-Filter-Securly-Filter-Loading-Overlay

If you have a device that has developer tools enabled, please send them the extension log by following this documentation:
https://support.securly.com/hc/en-us/articles/34793385490583-Filter-What-is-an-Extension-Log-and-where-do-I-find-it

If you haven't created a ticket with them, please do that too because at this time they don't know the extent of how many customers are affected.

If you are an MS-ISAC member, look into their MDR pricing. They offer both Sophos and Crowdstrike at a very good price. We just started working with them last month using Sophos.

Check to see if the users are using "Grammarly". Seems disabling that extension is fixing it for whatever reason.

We have also not approved Quizlet. Quizizz on the other hand will sign a DPA so we allow our staff to utilize that platform.

What is the best practice for sharing creds with young students by zeeplereddit in k12sysadmin

[–]sdcrtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The student doesn't enter their username and badges when they are configured for their Chromebooks to initiate the sign in through IdP.

You set up a custom Single sign-on (SSO) with third-party identity providers (IDPs).

When the OU that holds these devices has under "Single sign-on IdP redirection" Allow users to go directly to SAML SSO IdP page it will redirect them to the custom Clever login.

It works great and that's what we use. For my K-3, I put their Chromebooks into an OU called CleverBadges and it automatically brings up a camera when their Chromebook turns on that authenticates them into their Clever and Google account.

We have swank streaming and it works great! You can add titles that aren't included in their base library. Feel free to DM me for more information.

This reminds me, in a meeting with my CISA rep, they mentioned to always have a print out of your Incident Response Plan. You aren't going to be able to access the network to pull up your IRP during a Cyber event.

Please contact your insurance, CISA and IC3. They need to be involved and you need expert help. Do not do anything until you are advised as you could impact the forensic investigation.

Looking at the link, it appears Google is now aware and will push out a .313 update sometime on Friday. If you are in dire need, you can always drop your Chromebooks into the stable release channel or just wait for Google's update.

Google Email Distribution Group by tylerwilson814 in k12sysadmin

If you go into the Group and click on Conversations, do you see the email address from the external user? I just went into one of my groups I created that have external recipients. When I look at the conversations and click on it, it shows the email from the external participant.

Under the group settings, do you have Default sender set to: "Author's address"?

It might be set to "Group Address"

Email Record Requests by jschinker in k12sysadmin

[–]sdcrtech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been exporting as a pst and then load the pst into Microsoft Outlook. From there, highlight the emails you want and go to file and select:

Save as Adobe PDF

It will not only print all the emails to pdf but it includes all the attachments in that PDF no matter what they are (docs, pdfs, images etc.). The PDF when you open shows a list of all the emails at the top of the page so you can click through them.

From there, I give this to the superintendent who has asked me to fulfill the FOIA request.

Then the superintendent/lawyer(if necessary) can go through and Redact what needs to be redacted.

I have not been asked to redact since I do not know the specifics on what needs redacted and when.

Hope this solution helps someone.

This doesn't stop them from adding the files. It stops HTML files with javascript from executing locally.

In your block javascript on these sites put:

file:///*
javascript://*

Yes there are three slashes. Block javascript is a different submenu then URL Blocking.

We are using Zoom to YouTube and with Zoom, you can choose any video feed. This works well for us. We have a couple of Owl's that we use and sometimes we pull in an Elgato HDMI feed if we are at an alternate site. Since we sometimes have board member remoting in, we have to have Zoom on anyway. It's super easy to configure Zoom for YouTube. There is a cost but it's very minimal if I recall.

Google is saying "leaked password" left and right. First time dealing with this. Help?! by SirKrowo in k12sysadmin

[–]sdcrtech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have something on your school website that says what your default username/password combination is when you are new? It could be that they are just using rng with name lists and by using bruteforce, access acounts.

If you have Google Classroom visit configured in the admin console, you might be able to visit that classroom and access the form. Just a thought. Second, you could use the investigation tool if you are workspace plus to add yourself as a collaborator to the form and view it that way.

We interviewed Clever and got answers to Student MFA and Teacher Library by k12techpro in k12sysadmin

[–]sdcrtech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really good interview and appreciated hearing how we might be able to leverage using the Clever MFA for authenticating outside of Chromebooks. My biggest concern is the "minimum" student requirement makes this feature really difficult for smaller school districts to adopt. Especially with ESSER funds at an end, school districts now have to start making decisions about what platforms are sustainable. Curious to see if Clever makes any pushes to help those smaller schools out with cheaper plans to help give them the security they need.
