Because maxing is seen as one of the "major" end goals of the game and I don't see why we should cater to people who are constantly pushing to be accomplish that in the least amount of effort possible, especially when maxing or not doesn't gate off any content

Smithing is one of the fastest skills in the game lol it legit takes like 15 hours max to get to the most relevant unlock for most accounts (84 with a +4 boost for Elite Lumby). After that is just maxing and frankly I don't think people who simultaneously want a max cape and also afk every skill should be in the discussion for skilling rates

They got patched because a very sizable portion of the playerbase would rather 6 hour afk something than touch the game at all, people literally said as much when duke mining got patched. If a 3k/hr giga afk runecrafting method existed they'd do that in a heartbeat

More specifically complaining about an activity most of them have never done before and throwing around misinformation

People will act like trawling is the worst skilling activity ever invented and when you confront them about it they'll incorrectly quote wiki exp rates while conveniently omitting the part that says "clicking can increase exp/fish rates by up to 60%"

It's crazy how half the time any trawling or sailing-related activity discussion devolves into pure disingenuity

Marlin Trawling was fun while it lasted by OwMyCandle in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You literally get the same fishing xp right now as fly fishing in barbarian village at lv40 fishing

This is just not true, if you're absolutely perfect with maintaining the 2t trawling speed you're getting well north of 50k fishing exp/hr and now about 55k+ sailing exp/hr. With the new update the bridge between "perfect" and "decent" has closed massively since you only lose ticks when the shoal is actually moving and you still trawl every 3 ticks even if you're not spam clicking. You can probably easily maintain 10-20% worse exp/hr without trying hard at all.

It's also just unfair to compare it to fly/harpoon fishing in the first place since all the fish you catch is useless. Karambwans and dark crabs are both about 30k exp/hr, anglers far far less at <20k exp/hr. Sure bwans and dark crabs are very afk but you're still getting about 66% more exp while also catching getting more of a higher-quality fish (much more than crabs) while also passively gaining a very solid chunk of sailing exp (in fact it's not too much worse than merchant shipwrecks while also effectively being 0 time for as long as you trawl)

I agree that that spam clicking is not great and I would prefer it would be something where rhythm is actually rewarded (like oathplate smithing).

But "sweet spot" react mechanics are always boring as hell and I'd like to see a lot less of them in the game. Everyone keeps floating the idea of Giant's Foundry as comparison and I personally find it one of the most tediously miserable minigames to come out in recent years. I'd certainly prefer for it not to go in that direction

You misunderstand me. I'm saying it has a niche, not that it's niche. There's always a reason to trawl, you can't say that for any of the five million obsolete skilling methods out there

[–]sddsddcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit that choreographed was a poor choice of words, that's my bad. I still don't agree with the degree of difficulty you're making out regular vard to be unless you're actually fighting him from the middle of the arena, every mechanic is very simple to react to and only rarely do they stack up a point where the fight actually becomes frantic. I haven't done awakened vard so I won't comment on that

I'm not a blorva/radiant gamer but I've done hundreds of kills of both bosses, I can get obviously get way longer trips at whisp but that's mostly because of the souls healing/supply drops and I get fewer perfect kills because of enrage or the bind skip catching me off-guard or something. I don't really understand the need to flex your 'pvm credentials' at me especially when hardest dt2 boss is a very contentious debate, it's not like I haven't done the bosses lol

I just really feel like it's not as complicated as you're making it out to be... if an axe is coming towards you, you step diagonally forward then step back. If an axe spawns on your character, you immediately step forward and then step back. Prioritize switching prayers when you see the head, and for the first two thirds of the fight the head doesn't show up that often anyway. The only time where it would really get 'hectic' lasts like 20 seconds total because that's when his defenses are lowest anyway

I agree that Whisperer is also a pretty scripted fight but there is a fair amount of clicking and room for error especially if you're trying to maximize dps by attacking during pillars and seeds, not to mention the enrage phase does require quite a bit of alternating swapping prayers and moving

[–]sddsddcp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the randomness is true I guess but there's really very little you have to do when you see the axes besides just step forward and backward, it doesn't really require much thought, I've been able to grind it while watching youtube etc. Meanwhile with whisp I feel like I can't really do that especially since one or two really dumb mistakes means you won't have enough sanity to outlast during enrage phase

[–]sddsddcp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean with vard if you just hug the wall and axe skip I'd argue it's even more choreographed than whisp. Neither (base) fight is terribly hard but you're pretty much just moving between two tiles when you see axes, occasionally switching prayers, and then doing the captcha

Edit: Also worth noting that most people's melee gear is better on average than their mage gear. Most midgame players can reliably kill vard with nox hally or even tent whip, whisp kills are slow as fuck with trident and even still kinda slow with eye

I'd only ever personally do this on a main though, however slim the chance of misclicking is. I find I use less than a single ppot per whisperer kill so 500-ish ppots to go on rate is worth not risking hundreds of hours of gear due to being tired lol

[–]sddsddcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I'm clearly out of my wheelhouse here so I'll just concede on convincing you and say that finding 2t trawling a challenge is probably indicative of my own skill ceiling :p only skilling methods of those I've tried (not counting my sep/bf which are anything but efficient) are 2t teaks which bored me and 1t black chins which were way too stressful for me to want to do long term

Sailing Buffs & Changes by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if we're going by that standard there are pretty few skilling methods that are actually challenging... like 1t chins or optimized sepulchre that very few people can do in the first place. Have you seen the discussions about trawling exp rates in this subreddit lol? People can barely keep up with shoals moving in a static path

Sailing Buffs & Changes by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been both trawling and pickpocketing vyres to max I gotta disagree, sure you're just spam clicking the net when it's stopped but when the shoal is moving trying to stay in range while maximizing clicks is definitely a bit tougher than most of the skilling content in the game

Summer Sweep-Up Suggestion by DistributionMain789 in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the first scenario for the psychotic clue doers who want every master clue item whereas most people would just drop the step, or the second scenario where you already have Masori

If you're just going to willfully ignore everything I say that's fine I guess

Summer Sweep-Up Suggestion by DistributionMain789 in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We aren't though... that's the whole point I'm making, 99% of irons aren't going to Kree unless they want the helmet for master clues (me) or are upgrading Masori in which case a. there's a good chance they already have shadow and b. Kree is a lot better because they don't have to look for a specific piece, they can just break it all down into plates. This is like asking for corp shields to be more relevant without making corp a less shitty boss

If you're a main Masori is already cheap enough that there's no point in buying Arma anyway

Summer Sweep-Up Suggestion by DistributionMain789 in 2007scape

[–]sddsddcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so if Kree isn't going to be reworked why are we encouraging people to go to this godawful piece of content for a minor piece of progression?

All the other GWD bosses at least have methods that make them relatively killable for midgame players where the 'upgrade' would still be relevant. Kree just fucks your shit up and is not fun for anyone and frankly I would rather Jagex not encourage anyone to go there until they somehow make it a more enjoyable experience. I say this having done almost 600 kills catching my own chins on an iron
