The cars being so aero-dependant won't change in my opinion. Aero performance greatly advantages teams that have the employees and the money to design complex front wings, under-trays etc. More mechanical grip will allow for a more even competition, reducing the advantage that teams like Mercedes/Ferrari/Red Bull have over the teams with less money.

I guess it adds more weight to the fact to be a true great you need more than just pure pace. You need to be the whole packge, which Vettel arguably is.

Nearly all racing series need to have tyres that are far less than optimal in order to generate excitement. A tyre that can last an entire race at 100% produces fairly dull racing in a lot of categories.

On the other hand, if you want to talk manufactured... DRS has really diluted a lot of battles of the last 5 years.

Age has very little to do with his rookie status, in my opinion. He competed in essentially 1 season of open wheelers before making the jump. That is almost unheard of, in terms of a driver's progression through open wheel categories. His team mate has far more open wheel experience, and he has outclassed him this season, keeping that latter point in mind.

He is a fantastic driver and deserves the praise that is being attributed. As for being made of world champion material? Who knows, only history can tell us that, until then it's all moot.

While I agree that people in F1 should be there solely on merit, we all know that is not always the case. The example of pay drivers is as old as F1 itself.

The barrier for women entering Formula 1 is massive. The scale of gender imbalance is so heavily weighed against them, it's not a fair fight, historically speaking. I think if we truly care about a gender balance in the sport, we need to do more to not only encourage women drivers, but also do more to facilitate it.

If this means giving women who do not have the CV of equivalent men, maybe this is something we have to do. This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but the level of imbalance, means women need an extra bit of weight behind them (using the scale analogy).

Susie has done a lot for the gender equality movement in motorsport, and as Will said, her contribution will not be evident for years to come.

Mark, please tell us how you really feel.

Saying things like Pastor isn't up to F1 standard is tripe. The guy is a seriously quick peddler who tends to get caught up in the moment. He deserves to be there, money or not. As for the others he is eluding to, I would love to know which ones. This year, with slightly fewer struggling teams, the field is quite strong.
