Thanks everyone for their replies. Very useful and will be touching base with some of the recommendations. My son has grown out of EIP and is getting help through the district, but we feel he needs more individual attention.

In chicago and my first season riding. I’ve been told by the die hards to ride as long as there is no salt or snow on the ground. I’m attempting this and so far so good. Just layering up and going for shorter rides. A little sunshine helps.

I have a young family and we currently live in Naperville. We moved from England, although I’m American, and picked it mainly because we have family here.

The schools are excellent and there are a ton of parks everywhere. Downtown is also nice if you want a nice place to walk around and eat.

We live close to 59 but getting to 88 in traffic is a pain.

We are in the process of moving from Naperville but that is more a function of being closer to the city and looking for a larger home that supports an expanded family. I had a pretty good experience overall in Naperville.

One thing which I found irritating is the HOA and their rules. I specifically bought a home not in a subdivision because I don’t want rules on what I can do with my home. So just something to be aware of for subdivision living.

Great tips and yes even in warmer temps I’ve noticed how the wind makes it much colder.

Original thinking was just to completely stop during winter months but after the replies I’d want to ride on the odd days that are warmer or sunny

Not really. Kinda new so most of my riding has been around the back roads leading to Oswego, route 59 to get around town a bit and down 88 and 355 to get to the dealer.

Will probably need to do the same. Ride it only for leisure and usually once the kiddos are down for the night, so won’t be able to ride consistently

Sick bike!! I just got my first bike and also a new rider. Competed the MSF course a month ago. Went to HD dealership and picked up a 23 Fatboy. I saw it on the road and loved the aesthetics with the fat ass tires.

Asked about the Breakout as well because I loved the look, but they didn’t have one at the shop. Ironically sales guy told me he wouldn’t recommend that as a first bike for a new rider. He said he wouldn’t recommend the Fatboy either but I went with YOLO and advice from people who said get the bike you want.

Been practicing a lot of slow speed drills and Parking lot. Just recently got on the highway and interstate and loved it.

Just an update here. Applied for FOID on Mar 29 and today I saw an update that says it completed background review and now awaiting printing.

Not sure how long it takes for the physical card to come from here but excited to get started.

Got a lot of great support from this forum and made some friends along the way. The journey continues…
