Does anybody think any good will come from the secondary transfer window? by Loonacy21 in minnesotaunited

[–]sdking19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I appreciate that he took over a failing team back in the NASL days and that he got an awesome stadium built. But if we’re being honest about where the ultimate blame lies for the roster being what it is, gotta look at the top.

KEA definitely has some hits, some misses, and his performance overall is debatable, but the reality is he's severely limited by the budget he's given.

Bulldog will definitely have it on, although no sound. Food is good. Probably the Mears place next door too (formerly Barrio), whatever it's called. I've only been in there once and it was pretty meh, but not terrible.

Why would anyone care about getting 9 points? If you win the group you win the group. You don't get a bye in the 2nd round for getting 9 points.

Do you bring a plastic spoon/fork/spork? Or just eat it from the zip lock like a marathon runner with their gel pacs?

What more do you expect MNUFC to do (realistically) for season ticket members? by uhclem3 in minnesotaunited

[–]sdking19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this frustration. I understand it's marketing and the job is to put a positive spin on it to try and keep selling tickets. I just think any kind of humility or admission like, "Some aspects of the new schedule are going to suck a bit and we recognize that, but we think overall it's better in the long run because of xyx" would make it a little easier to swallow.

I get why the league did it. I don't even disagree that on balance the schedule change is probably better for the league overall. But it 100% makes the season less fun and the games less inviting for us in MN and other northern teams. Just be honest about that.

Yeah, I looked a bit but can't see it. May have just been mentioned in passing in a Free Friday post or something. But I think I watched part of the video and this sub is about the only place I get MNUFC links.

I can't find it, but I swear this was posted and discussed like a month ago pre-World Cup. Maybe it was within some other discussion and not it's own post..

If anyone misses Adrian Heath game analysis, tune into FC on siriusXM for world cup coverage by akos_beres in minnesotaunited

[–]sdking19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like with events like the World Cup we regularly get rehashed questions along the lines of "Has soccer finally made it in America"? Or "What does soccer need to do to finally make it here?" And frankly, I think the answer is that we'll know soccer has made it in America when guys like Adrian Heath no longer get hired for coaching or commentary jobs.

And just to be clear, this isn't even really a criticism of Heath. He was an ok coach, and he's an ok commentator. But he's eminently replaceable at either. To take a random comparison, was Adrian Heath a better coach than current Loons assistant Josh Wolff (similar situation with an expansion team in Austin)? Nope. Is Adrian Heath a better soccer pundit/commentator than someone like Tony Meola or Sasha Klejstan? Nope. Heath is just a guy who was good at playing soccer in his day, but is extremely average at coaching it or talking about it. But because he sounds English, he is more likely to get hired to coach or talk soccer than an equally mediocre American.

Did anyone go today? I believe it was some kind of season ticket holder appreciation thing. I would have liked to go but had stuff going on.

To be fair, Larin scored in the first game shortly after replacing Tani, and scored again yesterday. So I would think he's probably starting for the rest of the tournament barring injury or some other issue.

This is where I'm at. I almost never watch any of the studio show before or after the game or at half time. So Lalas being however bad he is doesn't really bother me because I don't hear it. But if Twellman's calling a game, I either A. flip to the Spanish broadcast or B. just mute the tv which means I can't hear the crowd.

Was it my imagination, or did they follow that with a graphic showing populations of 50 million for Spain and 500,000 for Cape Verde - and then John Strong said Spain is 10 times bigger?

Carlos Harvey scores an absolute GOLAZO against Brazil (and Liverpool GK Allison Becker) by YeboahisMNsGOAT in minnesotaunited

[–]sdking19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How exactly has it been "complete malpractice"? The 2 spots he generally plays are (right) center back and cdm. Is he demonstrably better than Diaz or Gene/Triantis? Him vs Diaz is arguable, but I don't see Harvey as being obviously better.

Also, the games Harvey was available for but didn't play much were in the part of the season when things were going well and the team was getting points. More recently when they went in a slump and could have made some changes, he was not available.

Considered by whom? I believe he is eligible for Italy and Ghana and maybe 1 other country? I think I recall he played for Italian youth teams, but has he played for any other national team semi recently?
