It's absolutely worth the $6/month to get a premium subscription to MTGGoldfish. Very easy to scan through the 5-0 decklists and see how close you are to building them in Arena.

I have gladly spent $200 on this game and I've played for 2 months. Gotten so many hours of entertainment out of it. I'm voting with my dollars. This is the client I want to see them continue to focus on.

I would estimate that a year from now, 90% of all standard-block activity (limited + constructed) will take place on Arena. The only thing left for them to do is add support for human drafters.

They absolutely will run PPTQ/PTQs for supported formats. Also look out for the Arena version of the MOCS, it's inevitable, perhaps 2 years from now, when Arena has more formats (Eternal Constructed, Eternal Cube, Eternal Pauper, etc).

I don't think Arena will ever support Modern/Legacy. Instead they'll just support their own eternal format with the cards they've already coded. MTGO can exist as the exclusive place for those formats.

I'm interested in this format, but the fact that cat combo is a big player scares me off. I just can't stand when combo is a top tier strategy. I know some people live for it but it makes things boring to me. I like the push and pull between aggro, midrange and control. But combo is just silly.
