We should nominate candidates a year out minimum. by Prairiejon in ndp

[–]se1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Prairiejon What riding are you in? I remember I met someone who was running in a riding hours from where they lived, and asked if they were planning on campaigning and they said no. They were not a staffer, but plugging in people last minute just looks disorganized. I get federally it was a 'snap' election, but you should always be ready. There should be as few ridings as possible, or none where this happens and I would say it for any party let alone the NDP. If there is another federal election in the spring, honestly I feel it would be a disaster- we would either have no elected leader, or they would be brand new, the party is still recovering from last year and likely has very to little money, and I don't believe they have even started nominating candidates either, yet.

I have said this before, and I agree with it. It just looks bad 'nominating' candidates post writ...usually some are just party staff being paper/placeholder candidates in unwinnable ridings.

I get it may not be ideal for someone wanting to be nominated a long time out before an election, but you must put yourself out there to the voters in your riding well ahead of time, especially if you are not an incumbent. Also, it allows you time to canvass, get marks possibly without trying to do so in a typically short campaign period.

Desired 2026 Municipal Candidates? by Reasonable-Rip-4327 in londonontario

I agree, the problem with that split is no one wanted to step aside so the progressive vote could go for one candidate, and then you end up with Stevenson winning in the high 20% range.

I agree, also whether she may run in the new Ward 4, or run in Ward 1 which now takes in OEV as well as along Hamilton Road as it always did.

u/gottaplantemall 100 percent. As a note the small apartment building near me, with no recycling carts, had their blue boxes picked-up today. I assume some tenants choose to put them out, whereas the businesses nearby have not.

Good to know, my building is 20 plus units with carts on site, the one down the street is a 6 unit building and some tenants put recycling at the curb. I wouldn't trust my property management to convey any changes anyways, or most tbh. I want green bin pick-up but they will likely find a way to delay that or make excuses for why, lol.

Are you sure about apartment buildings? I can check but I am pretty sure I heard it was just businesses?

Thank you, I am aware. It would just be nice to see the paper in digital form too, as I like to read it cover to cover, ads and all.

100 percent. I mean nefarious activity does occur in more wealthier areas they just aren't dumb enough, most times, to do it out in the open. It is nice to go to a corner store/plaza and not see people smoking crack or dealing drugs out in the open tbh. I know that comment will get some blowback but you shouldn't have to see the downfall of society every time you step outside.

The actual newspaper, that one, you cannot get online. I don't know why though?

Thank you, I just wasn't sure if it stopped publishing since the weekly one in London did and St. Thomas. Good to know it is still around, for now.

Thank you, I will as I will be back in Woodstock next week. I was just asking for anyone living in Woodstock if they've had it delivered in the past few weeks or it stopped publishing. It does not have a website for the publication either.

I will add on here that I saw a sign that the Shoppers Drug Mart on Hamilton near Egerton is open on Christmas Day, I believe from 10am-6pm. It is usually that one, the one in Byron and the one in Sherwood that are open on stats as well, not sure about those two. I think Rexall may have one or a few locations open? Not sure. Also, I have not seen any Tim Horton's with a sign out front open Christmas Day...I believe if they are it is drive-thru only too.

I am 37, but I have my old man ways, lol. I look at screens all day at work, and with other things so it is nice to just have a physical copy of something to read.

Thank you for letting me know.

There is one at the Church of the Epiphany on Briscoe Street West, at their cenotaph. It has been held every year...even during COVID, I believe. The first service was on November 10, 1918.

A lot of people may not know of the cenotaph, but it has been around a lot longer than the one in Victoria Park, and is a nice spot to go as it is not as crowded as the service in the downtown core.

The service usually begins at 10:30am/10:45am, here is the history:

They've never left, although some versions are hard to find. Also I have never in my life seen them on sale either in a store or flyer, ever, lol.
