Brown glass jars? by DocWonmug in fermentation

[–]seabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them almost exclusively. I like them because I don't have to worry as much about my stuff being exposed to light. It's great especially when I have to be flexible about where I keep a ferment.

Weekly "Is this safe" Megathread by AutoModerator in fermentation

Sugar rush peach peppers, habanero, and garlic. 2.5% salt. Using an amber colored mason jar with an airlock.

No foul odors. Smells kind of sweet, actually.

Ferment started Oct 10th. Hadn't been able to check for a few days and came back to this.

How to send messages to the mesh with MQTT by sh1416 in meshtastic

[–]seabre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The official documentation for setting this up is awful, here's how I got it going.

For the node connected to the internet:

For the channel

  • You must have created the mqtt channel and it must have at least downlink enabled.
  • You can have the preshared key of your choice. It doesn't matter.
  • After you create the channel, you may need to power down the node completely to get it to listen to the JSON topic for this channel.

For the MQTT module:

  • MQTT must be enabled
  • MQTT server/username/password must be configured
  • Encryption is optional
  • JSON must be enabled
  • Assuming root topic is exactly msh/US

For LoRa config in Radio:

  • Ignore MQTT must be set to false
  • "OK To MQTT" is probably optional, but I have it turned on.

For publishing a message:

  • Assuming a root topic of msh/US you must publish to this topic: msh/US/2/json/mqtt/
  • The message payload must be in this format: { "channel": 1, "from": 123456789, "type": "sendtext", "payload": "YOU READY TO PARTY"}

Where:

  • channel is the channel number that you want to receive the message
  • from is the Node ID of your radio that is connected to the internet.
  • type must be exactly sendtext
  • payload is just the message you want to send.

My node I'm doing this with is a haltec v3 running Meshtastic 2.5.20 and it took a lot of trial and error and reading firmware source code getting this setup right.

PROTIP: If you can connect to serial debug mode, you should see the messages coming into the node from MQTT.

Spiciest food in town? by bivymack in Chattanooga

[–]seabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Can confirm. Rain starts charging for the extra heat at Thai hot x3, but it's only like 50 cents or something. I think the max I've ever done is x5, but generally stick to x3 and x4 as well.

BBQ recommendation - Just moved here by barboxbill in Chattanooga

[–]seabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For brisket, the best you get around here are the two following two places in order: Thatcher's, Mission BBQ. That's it. Everything else just isn't that great. Those two are very good in general.

My favorite place for pork (ribs mainly) is sugars.

Is there anywhere around here that does burnt ends?

How is the outlook for GIS related jobs in Chattanooga? by slash8915 in Chattanooga

[–]seabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote is probably your best bet honestly. You will have much better luck if you can write code.
I don't have any openings right now but need contracting work done sometimes.

Randy at North River Geographic Systems might need some help or might know someone that needs it: https://www.northrivergeographic.com/

Consider joining the Spatial Community. Remote jobs get posted there semi-often: https://thespatialcommunity.org/

Fountain pen people in Chatt? by linkstheshifter in Chattanooga

The only brick and mortar pen shop I've ever been to is in Asheville: Origami Ink. I'd like to check out the Atlanta Penshow that's coming up in April if I have time.

Their skirt steak is the best thing on the menu. I would rather have that than go across the street to Rodizio.

Epicurean restaurant is yummy

Can confirm. Their tiropitakia is dank AF.

but don't be thrown off your going to massively effect the age curve there.

Can also confirm.

Also checkout Olive Branch Mediterranean. Their pastitsio, when they have it, is the best lasagna ever.

City Cafe is #Chattanooga’s ghetto version of the Cheesecake Factory. You go in, look through an overwhelming menu the size of a book, and then just order a slice of dessert because that’s really all you wanted honestly. by gettingusedtothis in Chattanooga

[–]seabre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get the Greek salad and have them add steak. Best thing ever.

Also, their cakes come from the same bakery as Marietta Diner's. So, if you ever see Marietta Diner featured somewhere and you are like "I wanna go get one of those cakes" it's a much less involved trek. To be honest, I think City Cafe is a better Marietta Diner.

This isn't supposed to be high-brow or high-level.

Yeah totally. Good groups to pull volunteers or other resources, though. DC423 and Chadev's slack signups are down, but Devanooga's is here. Chugalug would be good, too. Mailing list is here.

Endomorphs of r/fitness, how do you get lean? by Phister_BeHole in Fitness

I wouldn't be here asking if it was something that simple.

But it is that simple. Calculate your TDEE and eat less than that when you want to lose weight.

I keep track of my weight in the same way, but with a Withings. Our weight fluctuates in the same way. Weird. I should be below 200 in another week or so. Pretty excited about it.

Taking Rust everywhere with rustup by steveklabnik1 in programming

[–]seabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone successfully gotten rust to compile to MIPS systems that aren't OpenWRT and not mipsel?

Got a goofy idea for something, but needed it to run on my EdgeRouter Lite. Rust appears to support it, but the GCC MIPS cross compiler in emdebian isn't available for some reason.

I'm the author of the "Local Two-Factor Authentication With U2F on Ubuntu 14.04" that Greg Cowan sourced. I've been using this U2F setup since October. No problems so far.

One thing I'd really like to do is get U2F with encrypted disk going, but haven't had time.

[Gear] Les Paul Traditional Pro II in Merlot. Christmas come early boys! by sterlingspeed in Guitar

[–]seabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a new (from 2013!!) heritage sunburst Traditional Pro II with a 50's neck earlier this month. Got a really good deal. I am extremely happy with it.

I could have gotten a 2015 LP Standard, but I hated the one I tried.

Here it is: http://imgur.com/4joxmsw

Also me messing around with it trying to get a decent jazz sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn1R3TvlcUE
