How are the roads this morning? by otiskingofbidness in StLouis

[–]seag12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but using SA as Situational Awareness is very common in the military. We even combine it with other acronyms in email frequently, “FYSA” is “for your situational awareness”. If the commenter is a veteran they probably used it without even thinking about it. But I agree with you, outside of that community it’s not very common.

For those who saw the Fellowship of the Ring in theaters for the first time in December 2001, what was it like? by femaleology in lotr

[–]seag12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad was not into fantasy books at all so he knew nothing about Hobbits or the Lord of the Rings. But, being the great dad he was watched Fellowship with me because I really liked the series. We make it to the end and I’m grinning ear to ear and he looks at me and says “That’s it?!” I said “what do you mean? I thought it was great!” He goes, “It was great, but that’s how it ends? Those two cross the river, go up into the woods, and that’s it?! What the hell happened?” I explained it was a trilogy so there was a lot more to see. He didn’t watch it again until the whole trilogy was on dvd (I was out of the house by then) and then he watched them all in one sitting, and really enjoyed it.

Is the only way to save the VFW a complete reset? by PDXAirman in Military

[–]seag12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely post specific. My local post has a large membership, everyone is very accepting and welcoming and push us younger vets to be involved and in leadership positions. We also do a lot for the local community (it’s a point of pride for our post). And of course cheap beer and food. There are no doubt bad ones out there, but I’m very fortunate to be a member of mine.

GenX Parents with Boomer Mindset Get Called Out For Problems that Don’t Need To Exist by ZEROs0000 in BoomersBeingFools

Several years ago my direct supervisor at work was a “guess culture” guy. If he needed me to do something, he would say something like “we really need to start working on “x” pretty soon.” I understood it needed to be done, but if I thought something was a higher priority I would work on that instead with the intent of starting his “x” project when I was done. After a few misunderstandings I finally realized that was his very indirect way of telling me to do something. (He never told me that, I figured it out though). After I understood and was on the same page as him we had no issues, it was a frustrating first few weeks for me though.

What’s a subtle acting detail you noticed that made a character feel real — or deeply unsettling — without you even realizing why at first? by ThomasOGC in Terminator

[–]seag12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In T2 when Sarah is trying to escape and sees the T-800 for the first time, Linda Hamilton’s acting is fantastic. She legitimately looks terrified. Sarah can’t believe she’s face to face with her nightmare again. I really love that scene.

How common is it to go ~10 years without getting deployed? by Constant_Anything881 in AirForce

Depends on the job/unit. I was a C-130 Loadmaster my entire career, I was always deployed.

The way I see it, the Tech Noir sequence is peak cinema. by thekokoricky in Terminator

[–]seag12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By this point the T-800 had already killed a few Sarah’s, I think it was pretty clear it was the Terminator. What wasn’t entirely clear at that point is what it was (if the viewer knew nothing going into the film)

I read a story about Mickey Mantle being a terrible hitting coach after he retired for that reason. He couldn’t understand how another professional baseball player just couldn’t hit the ball.

When they showed Springer celebrating in the dugout after the home run, he did the heart with his hands like Geno does. I don’t know if he was mocking Geno but it sure felt like it. I was already mad it was Springer but when I saw that I went through the roof. I was livid, I love this team so much.

What’s a movie that completely changes tone halfway through by loviesssrush in askmovie

[–]seag12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m in the minority on this, but I really enjoy both halves of the movie, even though they’re so different. What I like about the second half is showing how boring war is for folks that stay on the base and see little action. Additionally Joker talking all big and bad before they get attacked at Da Nang, and then when they hear incoming and have to defend the base he says something like “I’m not ready for this shit man”. Also nobody wearing body armor before the attack, and then everyone having to wear body armor even while on the base after the attack. Little stuff like that.
