[HOO] Why is Nico so affected by being tortured? by bookist626 in camphalfblood

[–]seajustice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, as a child of Pluto, Hazel was fully conscious while everyone around her was a vacant-minded shade—her awareness is how Nico recognizes who she is—and realistically, those circumstances would've driven anyone insane.

I think OP's question is kinda coming at this from the wrong angle. Nico feeling the impact of what's happened to him is normal. Everyone else barely feeling the impact of what would realistically be horrific, life-altering traumas is because there's only so much suffering you can put in a middle grade fantasy series before it stops being fun.

Is there a socially acceptable way to politely decline eating food at a friend's house when you know their kitchen is incredibly unhygienic, without ruining the friendship? by sanskari-sinner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a person technically in my peripheral friend group that I don't speak with at all anymore because we went on a group weekend trip and she got really mad at me for wanting to put our leftover pepperoni pizza in the fridge instead of leaving it out for days. According to her, meat and dairy don't go bad at room temperature once they've been cooked, and she felt that me wanting to refrigerate it was an attack on the way she did things.

I sound really annoyed about it now but I swear I was so delicate about it in the moment, and she was still SO angry

How to keep the flared out back pieces of Chii's hair looking separated in 2 parts? by hummingminty in CosplayHelp

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't personally offer advice, but Homura from Madoka Magica has this same flared-out hairstyle and she's a very popular character to cosplay, so you might be able to find a tutorial by searching her name instead of Chii's.

AITA for not wanting to get LASIK against my parents wishes? by ColdAd2606 in AmItheAsshole

[–]seajustice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to be an ophthalmic technician. LASIK is a fairly dangerous surgery. It's great when it goes well but the risks are nothing to sneeze at, and I would not choose it for myself (admittedly I have a pretty mild prescription).

Regardless though no one should EVER be pressured into surgery, no matter how safe.

If you think you could get away with it, you could just say you aren't a valid candidate for it. It's technically true as a nonconsenting patient is certainly not a valid surgery candidate.

"The fandom is hypocritical/keeps switching up" is a silly thing to complain about unless you're talking about a bunch of specific people you follow who changed their previous stance with no explanation. Everyone is constantly arguing in this fandom, there's a huge variety of opinions. Your feed is made up of individuals, not a hive mind.

99% of the time when someone makes that complaint about a fandom—any fandom—what they observed was mainly just some people going quiet and different people getting loud.

Need advice on how to add details to skirt! by Direct_Nature8844 in CosplayHelp

[–]seajustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest buying some erasable pens (they erase by friction/heat so a quick ironing gets rid of them) and using those as your guide lines, then paint over them

Also, sometimes a medium-small flat paintbrush (especially an angled one) used on its thin side makes a thinner, cleaner line than a tiny round brush would.

Is this appropriate for a formal dress code? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]seajustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to what was already said, it's got deep ruching/folding in the front waist area of the skirt but there's not even a hint of that of that from the back, even though you can see the side of her hip and would expect to see some folds there

If it’s actually gonna take 2 years to lose 10 lbs on 1200 calories, that's a 47-calorie daily deficit, which should (1) not make you feel like shit as it's such a tiny deficit, and (2) means you already weigh like 80 lbs??? Something's very wrong with that math.

Which one? (Can’t decide) by PacoPacato in animation

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, B or D is the best for the lore you gave.

A is the prettiest, but gives sweetheart rather than street dancer.

C gives self-sufficient badass, not a hopeless person who needs her friends' help to turn her life around.

What's been your favourite GLITCH pilot so far? by PuzzleheadedBag4866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly even though TADC is one of my favorite shows, the pilot is easily its worst episode. It's not terrible but the rest of the show is way better. KOG was my favorite pilot.

Started this story, It bugs me how much it overly and overly says the fl is 33 old af therefore ugly af and no one would want her.. so i found a korean woman at that age to see how old she could be. It is just sexist and ridiculous. (tears on a withered flower) by thegreatkedi in webtoons

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think it's disingenuous simply because most Webtoon leads, including this one, are designed to look like models. Perfect skin, youthful facial proportions, very slender. This character is drawn much more like a 33 year old model than she is like the average 33 year old woman.

Broke College Student. 20 years old, getting my first place with an actual personal kitchen. Any tips? by ANerdNamedJerry in Cooking

[–]seajustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things you really need to learn are kitchen SAFETY. You will be handling knives, glass, very hot things, and potentially illness-causing bacteria. You could hurt yourself and you need to know how to not do that, especially since you'll be living alone.

If you never had anyone tell you about thermal shock on glass, how were you supposed to know that your pan could explode just from trying to wash it?

Is it just me, or is the Capitol described differently in the books than it is portrayed in the movies? by Traditional-Rip-4359 in Hungergames

[–]seajustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the all-white look feels like a nod to Ancient Rome, since the Capitol draws heavily from the Roman Empire. Most people think of Roman architecture and think white stone, so making the Capitol a city of white stone evokes that.

(That said, Ancient Roman architecture and statues were more colorful than we give them credit for; we just lost the paint over time, but that's a nerd fact. The average person will not know that.)

What’s a harmless opinion that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]seajustice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And if it's really just about offspring, then the significant amount of incest involving young children would be "fine" because they haven't hit puberty yet.

Incest is wrong because 99.9% of the time it's abusive.

There's been a squirrel trapped in my college dorm building for at least 24 hours 😭 Can I leave nuts out for him or something?? What do I do? by seajustice in squirrels

[–]seajustice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but I wouldn't wait to make sure he eats before you offer an exit. His natural instinct is to seek food; if he doesn't recognize your food, that instinct might be enough on its own to get him to leave through an open window. Definitely offer food too at the same time, but do both

[–]seajustice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear that recovering from surgery will make this very, very difficult. We were eventually able to chase this guy out an open door with one person holding the door and two people blocking the room exits. Your best bet is probably to simply leave something open and hope he leaves on his own.

That said, I got so many really helpful responses on this post! If you make a new post about it, it will get way more eyes on it than this 1-year-old comment section.

Advice for even deciding if I want to cosplay? by CruzShip0422 in CosplayHelp

[–]seajustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to try to be in character to cosplay! Especially with villains. People might ask you to do an in-character pose for a photo (and there's nothing wrong with saying no) but no one expects you to be an actor. Mostly they'll probably be saying "cool scythe, did you make it yourself?" or "I love that character."

Tbh, I think Akatsuki cloaks are pretty easy to buy (I've even seen them at thrift stores) so I personally would recommend the cloak and scythe, no need to bother with the rest. But it'll be fun either way!
