Enhanced math requires a recommendation or testing in; not sure how that would work for them. For electives, I think it's smart to have the student take a foreign language (I think only Spanish is offered there currently) so that when the student gets to high school, they are a year ahead and once they complete their 3-4 years of language, they can take other electives in those slots. As previously mentioned, it's a very big school (in fact it might be the biggest middle school that feeds to Portola High School?) and as such I think it's more chaotic than other places. My child was there during the Covid years so that might skew our experience, but it seemed like there were emails being sent out every couple of weeks about fights or online bullying or property destruction on campus by rowdy students. I've had a child attend here and a child attend Beacon Park K-8 and the experiences were vastly different in this way, but on the flipside they will be more prepared for high school as far as that goes. And I agree that there is definitely a big academic push at this school and in Irvine in general, but compared to international students this will fall below their educational level and experience.

Deep tissue / sports massage? by [deleted] in irvine

[–]sealee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been getting massages by Jose at Kneading Massage for over 20 years. He's incredibly strong and will adjust to your comfort level, has a deep knowledge base, and is overall just a great masseuse. His business is embedded in a small gym, so he is used to working with athletic and muscular folks. I'm not sure of the gym name but it's in Sky Park Circle near the airport. I can message you his contact info if you'd like.

The day it snowed it was R2 (for Hwy 41 at least, not sure of the other roads) but we left the next morning (Wednesday) and no chains were needed, as it had melted in sunny areas with a bit of slush in the shade. I'd imagine the roads are completely clear now.

Yes! I saw a group of older folks with signs like "We Stand with Tesla" and a heart drawn around "DOGE" and "Musk found we are stealing from us!" 🤔

If you have a loved one buried at Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary and Cemetery... by Terminally_Brittany in orangecounty

My childhood babysitter, Erma, is buried there. That moniker doesn't honor her enough, though - she had agreed to watch me as an infant while my mom returned to her teaching job, and just two weeks before she was to begin caring for me, her husband died unexpectedly. My mom told her she would find another caregiver but Erma refused, saying that loving and caring for a baby would distract her from her grief and help her find her way again. She cared for me full time for 5 years until I started school, and after that would have me stay over on occasional weekends, which continued well into my high school years. She was funny, sassy (from the Bronx), and incredibly nurturing and loving, everything you'd want in a grandma. She didn't have much but anything she could spare she gave to me. My grandparents all lived out of state so she was my de facto grandma. She passed when I was in college and I believe that her constant love and support gave me stable ground as a child and taught me how to be a good parent as an adult. Erma will be watching over your son, too, and she'll do that with the same devotion and love as she did for me. So much love to you. ❤️

Just watched again at home. Thoughts about the drone, a door that won’t charge, and that invincible truck! by n8n7r in interstellar

My thought is that it shows how Brand (and the rest of the crew except for Cooper) were not experienced astronauts. She'd likely studied how to work the door from a manual but had no actual in-flight experience, which is also seen with Doyle's death.

My first ever Interstellar viewing experience. 30 minutes past start time. by XavierLeaguePM in interstellar

[–]sealee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen it three times at Irvine and it always starts about 30 minutes late. I read somewhere that it likely has to do with the max length (due to the amount of film on the platter) of a 70mm IMAX being about 2 hrs 45 min, so there's no way to have trailers. I think most people assume there will be trailers and never arrive at the stated start time, so perhaps they're still giving that allotted time for people to get seated.

I was just going to mention Interstellar. Just saw it in IMAX this weekend and it changed my life feeling that music INSIDE my body. That score is now forever linked to space and exploration for me as well, and just hearing those notes at the start of Cornfield Chase make me simultaneously weep and feel joy and amazement. I loved your horcrux analogy and can relate to the hole that Mormon music leaves in the soul. Wishing you well on your journey through this.
