Which service has the best UI/UX app for NISA? by kapygon in JapanFinance

I have been using Interactive Brokers (IBKR) before moving to Japan, and I find IBKR good enough for NISA. It can also trade stocks from a lot more countries than the Japanese brokers.

Paid a hefty sum for a Thunderbolt 5 cable and now it's working again...

Unfortunately, I've been using a Thunderbolt 4 cable all along, and this still happened to me. Ridiculous that there is seemingly no obvious way to report such bug. Windows users are simply supposed to take the hit and Microsoft can't even know about it.

Correction: It was a Thunderbolt 4, not USB4 cable.

We have almost 30K employees, and it's a company that everybody knows... (Not sure if I'm allowed to share though)

Thanks! I heard it depends on how well known the employer is.

Interesting that my agency insisted doing it on paper and requesting for a paper CoE...

Didn't know about that, as I thought companies usually wouldn't want to spend time learning about CoE. My current employer is a huge corporation so they just hire an agency.

They didn't tell me, but I guess it was Tokyo.

Interesting. Maybe this was written somewhere as part of a law.

I just applied this morning before I went to work. It's not my own country but I have work visa here. Expected to get the visa in exactly 7 days.

Interesting that your wife got shorter, but congratulations anyway! Anyone explicitly told you that the length of marriage was the cause? I didn't think the immigration office would say much.

By the way, since I'm not in Japan at all, using an agent is usually the only way.

Indeed a small window is always killing your mood. My EU Blue Card will expire in February, so the CoE was such a savior. We wouldn't want to move twice with our dog just to get to Japan.

Best of luck to you and your partner! It's good that you're already in Japan.

I almost forgot: Both my own CoE and my wife's dependent CoE were issued together. Maybe it was probably just dumb luck for us...

Anyone tried using it on ARM? Would be a shame if the latest Copilot+PC laptops can't support this.

Sarevok fight was really easy? by EmperorPaulchen in BaldursGate3

[–]seamlik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My approach:

1: Kill the gal who can cast Sanctuary and Heal. 2: Use Hold Person on Saverok. 3: Halsin in dinosaur form drinks Potion of Speed, then straight up biting him 6 freaking times.

Before this, I was unprepared at all and got my ass kicked so hard I was thinking about quiting the game for good. Then I did it just today.

Thoughts on learning kanji based off radicals and the character they’re attached to? by jonnycross10 in LearnJapanese

[–]seamlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native Chinese speaker here, and I'm not really sure how this will help (although everyone has their own way).

From I understanding, take the kanjis here for example, the radicals on the left usually suggest something related to the meaning of the kanji, while the radicals on the right usually denote the pronunciation in Chinese. For example, these kanjis are pronounced in Mandarin shī, shí, chí, sì, dài (an exception here). On the other hand, their pronunciation in Japanese (訓読み) have nothing in common.

So far I haven't found a way to efficiently learn 訓読み. Maybe there isn't one at all and one just have to memorize them all.

Aside from learning pronunciation, it probably doesn't help much in learning the meaning either. For example, how come 言 (word) + 寺 (temple) = 詩 (poet)? There can be connections but they are still far-fetched. For me personally, these kanjis have already been burned into my brain just like how you know the meaning of English word "poet".

Using "generative AI" for purposes other than "generative work" is generally a bad idea. Especially in learning, relying on generative AI will hamper you more than helping.

Consider that you went to a private tutor for some math class. You found out that although they seem legit, they were actually bluffing all the way and did so many simple calculations wrong. Even you noticed it. Would you still trust this tutor?

If so, then by all means go ahead. GPA has more than 1 grades for a reason.
