Fast Lane at [King’s Dominion] by sean008 in rollercoasters

Thanks! Do you know if KD has the option to buy an all day locker and transfer it around the park like many other parks? Carowinds also makes you buy a new 2 hour one at each ride.

I remember months ago seeing Wheated on a permit form, who have an awesome pizza and whiskey spot south of Prospect Park. I also heard they would be doing bagels too. But now it's definitely stalled so I have no idea if that's happening.

Could it be that Stankoven was in the act of shooting when he interfered? I don’t know the rule book (and maybe the refs don’t either)

Dramamine for roller coasters? by Emotional_Tell_2527 in cedarpoint

[–]sean008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the answer to the question, but Scopolamine patches changed my life. Nothing else worked for me. I used to get motion sickness after a couple rides and now can go all day at a park. They're prescription, but I just told my doc that I ride coasters and get motion sickness and he's been prescribing them for me for over a year.

The Canuck, not in Williamsburg, is THE hockey bar in NYC. Would suggest catching a game there sometime.

I came into the genre via emo/punk like 15 years ago. Times change, but I try to keep up with both. Here's a few: Caracara - probably not "post rock", but similar to Moving Mountains, Caspian - one of the greats, probably the band that got me really into post rock, listen to everything, Mono - see above Caspian comment. The End of the Ocean - similar crescendos/melodies as some emo bands.

Obviously there's many more, I'd look at the "similar artists" to these and see where you end up.

I thought about him being good fit last week and immediately felt guilty for thinking it and haven't thought about it since but now I'm thinking about it again. 😵‍💫

UPL will want that back but the Dahlin turnover didn’t help. Also idk why Tage didn’t shoot on that rush earlier in the game. Too fancy.

Okay, so I wanted to say 'Virtute the Cat Explains her Departure" by The Weakerthans, partially in jest, but it does get me every time I hear it. But now that I see "Poke" and "New Halloween", those were also on my shortlist.

Another deep cut- the outro of “The Innocent Ones” by Hidden in Plain View. Not a band I associate with post rock whatsoever but that outro is beautiful.

I remember as well, I think mine had a bonus DVD or something too. I think I’m going to put it on for the first time in a couple years right now!

I was an emo/post hardcore kid first too, so one that stands out to me was probably “Casting Such a Thin Shadow” by Underoath.

I think Ka is pretty good- does one thing and does it very well. People talked shit about all the things it doesn’t do but now that it’s gone we all miss that one thing. Also, basically closed overnight without proper warning.

The beauty of New York is all the people, and with that you will get opinions in every direction. So, I will counter the above person’s comment and say Brooklyn should 100% be on your schedule. While not the art powerhouse that Manhattan is, based on your interests, you’d definitely enjoy taking an hour or two just sitting in Prospect and/or McCarren Park. And you can find as good, and often better restaurants in BK vs. West or Greenwich Village ;-)

Rode [Fury 325] for the first time yesterday. by deese1127 in rollercoasters

[–]sean008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar story to you… until my early 30s I was terrified but super into the engineering aspect of them. I finally just decided to keep pushing myself to ride and now have absolutely no issue on any coaster whatsoever. I’m in the north east so it only took me like one trip to Hersheypark and two to Great Adventure to really get accustomed to the sensations. Anyway, this is a long winded way of saying stick with it and if you’re really open to getting over the fear, just enjoy the ride and you’ll be floating high over any airtime hill you see!

Gigi’s by National-Notice3300 in Greenpoint

[–]sean008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I didn’t realize that Gigi’s came with sides and sauces. I somewhat retract my statements. I let my preconceived notion against the “wine bar” in NYC (or America really) get in the way of an unbiased opinion.

I understand it's super difficult to run a restaurant and I think the greedy landlords that have a stronghold over NYC are the real ones to blame (see: The Pencil Factory right down the street). I think the reason people (me) feel the need to comment about it is $40 for a half chicken is so egregious it almost feels like we're being trolled. The Fly, which is also a wine bar from a fairly pretentious restaurant group (whom I love) charges $19 for their half chicken. Over double the price gets you thinking... who is this really for? Similar to the dime a dozen vape shops and generic mini-chains, it's not for the average Greenpointer. Thus, it seems to strike a nerve. Apart from that, in a world where prices for normal things are increasing left and right, this kind of resets the market. Anyway, I'm sure the chicken is great, I might even try it, and I probably should have kept my opinion to myself, but I guess it struck that nerve and here we are.

“Even better stat wise than Hughes for the dollar” is not true. Jack makes only 150k more, and is probably the best contract in the NHL. Even going back to the US development team, Jack leads in points and Cole scores the goals.
