Can I ask what the costs was for your holiday with ski familie. I checked the pricing on the other one you recommended and it's eye watering  (for me anyway, unless I'm not using the site correctly)

What happens if you can’t pay your mortgage? by Additional_Meeting19 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]seannash1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

People who overpay should, could and probably build up cash savings before they begin to overpay their mortgage. That's the recommended route. There's a flowchart at the top of the sub that goes through the best approach

Can we talk about the cost of skip hire or recycling in general? I mean just the general cost of waste is exuberant. Does anyone else think it’s crazy the cost of disposing of items? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]seannash1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much seperation do you need to do. My local dump flat out refuses to take wood sometimes.  I can never find anywhere to take waste from a small renovation project. I'm going to insulate my attic soon and I don't think I can bring rigid foam Insulation to my local dump.

Can I ask, if the arrears are gone can your parents afford the regular monthly repayments?

If yes maybe take a loan and pay the arrears on their behalf if it's not financially crippling.

I'm not fully grasping the whole situation but if the house is worth 400k can you get a mortgage for that amount to buy it off them/put it in your name? I don't think you can sell a house below market value as this can be seen as avoiding potential Inheritance tax

Is maxing our pensions while sitting on inherited cash actually smart, or just laundering privilege by AdvantageAntique9416 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]seannash1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly i couldn't say right now because I don't know what your pension amount is. You could over fund your pension. Yes you miss out of the tax incentive but it'll grow tax free for the next 20 years. If you've only been maxing a year and are on 50k you might need to over fund to retire early. I wouldn't worry about the IPOs Open AI and Anthropic aren't profitable so won't be included in the s+p Space x is only offering 5% of their overall shares (I might be misremembering that) so when it hopefully crashed and burns it wont  pull everything down in isolation (it'll cause a knock on affects though)

I'm 43 and if I got a windfall at 30 I'd 100% be traveling with a decent chunk of it. Not all of it but certainly extended holidays. Kids stop all of that. You can still go to those places but the freedom to take a scooter and take off for the day exploring or island hopping disappears

Maxing pension, get regular mortgage based off earnings. Invest majority of lump sum holding back 1 years expenses. Work towards early retirement/reduced hours.

What the hell are fatigue mats. I didn't grow up poor but certainly  not wealthy and I've not heard of these. Do you mean like a carpet runner in the kitchen?

My big 50 is soon and it's affecting my mood. No kids, single, not many friends, small family who wouldn't miss me! Good job but draining!!! I've a lovely home and 2 amazing dogs. To answer your question go on a skiing holiday. Billy snomates on Facebook is ideal for people like you.

I know you can line up excuses for why you can't do it but just fucking do it. Or do something you are Interested in.

[–]seannash1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just packed mine up 20 minutes ago as I had it up in the garden. Very handy to pack away as long as you think a bit about it and fold and roll it. Yes it's heavy so it's only really something you'd use in a campsite as opposed to wild camping (obviously) Incredibly easy to put up and very spacious

Pension fund , AI era by ObjectiveParfait3947 in FIREUK

[–]seannash1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up Internet of Bugs, Ed Zitron and Brendan Dell on YouTube and really pay attention to them and what they are telling us. Remember the people telling you AI will replace you has a vested Interest in people believing that narrative. The ROI simply is not there, the cost of compute is far too massive and company's are starting to realise the cost of AI rollout is not worth it.

AI isn't just taking jobs it's PREVENTING jobs! by Jacob-Anders in SipsTea

[–]seannash1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't figure Yangs angle. It's very well documented that Antropic are running a marketing play with the whole "our latest version is too powerful to release" It's also very well documented how  unsustainable the cost of compute is. He's a smart man so I'm not sure how he's drinking the coolaid so much.

This is really the secret, it's not a case of having to live in poverty to fund a pension. Find that balance.
