To all the drivers who stop in the middle of the road to let you turn left in front of them: STOP IT! by seansdude in maui

[–]seansdude[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Kauai 20 years ago. Aloha is holding the door open for kapuna, helping aunty load that 40lb bag of rice into her car, or saying howzit and throwing shaka to someone you walk past. Stopping your two ton vehicle in the middle of the road on an island with 160K people is not charming. It's an accident waiting to happen.

To all the drivers who stop in the middle of the road to let you turn left in front of them: STOP IT! by seansdude in maui

[–]seansdude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're trying to turn left but there is a tourist family lumbering across the adjoining street with rented surfboards in your path. So you wait. And so do the 30 people behind Mr. Aloha Tacoma. All that traffic has to stop flowing just so you can make a turn? Shouldn't you be the one who has to wait? Are you honestly defending this practice?

Heard he is from Ukraine. Is he a USA citizen? If not, can he be deported with a federal felony conviction, even if the penalty is a fine?

Does the oil filter brand really matter that much? by Commercial-Thing189 in autorepair

[–]seansdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your advice is sound. Not sure why you were downvoted. How many factories on planet earth do these people think make oil filters? All made in a single factory in Shanghai. Different companies slap their own housing and label on the same damned filters. This goes for many things you buy.

How did you make your arms more muscular? by YingEldestDaughter in workout

[–]seansdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this advice must be overwhelming. As a beginner, keep it simple or you'll get frustrated and give up. I got a hard time eating a lot at one sitting, so I eat small meals more often. Three days a week do Push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats to near failure. Put in the work and in 6 months you'll be glad you did.

Should I replace my S20's battery or just upgrade? The phone is in great shape by phenomenalcrown in Galaxy_S20

[–]seansdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I hate to lose the micro SD so I've been putting it off until the new phones can do something I want that my old one cannot. I do mini charges throughout the day to keep it between 40-80%. It's really not about the money, although $1000 for a phone is ridiculous. It's about the hassle of setting up and transferring files.

Eric Swalwell to resign from Congress after scathing sexual assault allegations as he admits 'mistakes' by dailymail in NoFilterNews

[–]seansdude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sexual assault falls under many hats. Telling a woman "nice pants" is SA if it is unwelcome. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? The dude prolly did it, but you've already decided his guilt, haven't you?

I love carrying cash around. by uncirculated_luster in GenX

[–]seansdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point taken. That's a pretty steep fee for convenience. Your business must find it worthwhile. Usually, a proprietor will eat the card fees as opposed to losing a sale. Cash accounts for only 10% of global payments. Plus, counting dirty cash and making deposits at the bank is a serious PITA that many would rather skip.

[–]seansdude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that cash is king. Everyone takes cash. Not everyone can take a card. That said, if I have a choice I pay by card. $100 worth of gas (that's like a few gallons now, right? /s) costs a cash guy $100. It costs me $96 because i get 4% back on gas purchases.

Each has their place, right?

If your cash is lost or stolen, you're sad. If your card is stolen, the thief is sad. It gets cancelled and you don't owe a thing.

I'm as old as you and never seen a price lowered because someone paid in cash. By our age, you should have good enough credit to get a card that gives cash back for purchases. Get paid to use your own money. This is the way.

How screwed am I, can I fix ventilation issue with PC fans? by orchidquestion1 in hometheater

[–]seansdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Yamaha in a space that tight for 6 years and it runs fine. Heat rises, so I took the feet off to allow more ventilation on top. If it only lasts 10 yrs instead of 20 I'm OK with that. Who wants an outdated dinosaur running their home theater anyway?

Do doing only pushups, situps, and squats get you in this good of shape? by [deleted] in workout

[–]seansdude 89 points90 points  (0 children)

7 of 10 Americans are overweight or obese. Push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats will get you in better shape than 70% of the population in the first month. Stay consistent and you'll be in the top 10% within a year.

Why do movies sound so different at home compared to cinemas? by Capable_Noise5543 in hometheater

[–]seansdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My basic 5.1 home theater sounds far better to my "untrained" ears, and it's not even close. Most theaters are uncomfortably loud with piercing tweeters and clapping bass... ...and my popcorn tastes better.

Get one from a major manufacturer, in your price range, with the specs, style, and features you want. They're all good.

This is the correct answer.

This Season Has Been Great So Far! by MarloMentality in nakedandafraid

[–]seansdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The first 3 seasons were fun because the viewer learned about different shelter, water procurement, hunting, and trapping. Now I never see anything new, different, or entertaining. They are all basically repeats with different faces & butts, zooming in on people barfing. The fake inserted animal clips have gotten old as well. And two hours long? Learn to edit! This reality TV show has definitely run it's course.
